The Johan Submarine (TRO:VA) fluff says that "With a simple conversion process, the sub could even be fitted with small micro-thrusters (at the expense of half its storage capacity) to be used in exploring low-gravity bodies such as asteroids and comets."
How do they do that? Just add in thrusters to have a submarine in space? Would it still function as a submarine even with the thrusters or would it become a pure spacecraft until converted back?
Going by the fluff the thrusters weigh 142 kg. The Johan weights 2,000 kg. If I constructed a sub that weighed 4,000 kg and installed Micro-thrusters would the weight of the Micro thrusters double to weight 284kg? Would it keep going the same way so a 20 ton sub/spacecraft micro thrusters would weigh 1.5 tons rounded up? And so on?
What would the speed of the Micro-Thrusters be? I'm guessing slow. Can it be increased by adding more thrusters?
What range would it have? Would the micro-thrusters have a set range or can they be increased by adding more thrusters and more fuel?
Are Micro-Thusters only available to be mounted on Subs or can they be mounted on other vehicles? Like could I mount them on Fixed Wing Aircraft with environmental sealing and a fuel cell engine could it take off from moon, fly to earth, re-enter and then fly to the airport of its choice? Or go the other way?
