Centurion (Carter's Marauders Color Scheme)
« on: 26 February 2011, 09:55:41 »
Ok folks, I have completed the first of my IS mechs. Boy I tell you Black is NOT that easy a color to work with when you want to bring out fine detail BUT I think I managed to do it kinda decent!  Yes, I am still waiting on logo and decals from FPG but other than that it should be pretty well ready to rock [rockon]

Nice base, nice paint scheme. A little more light on subject for the photos would show the detail better, but all in all, I think I have to say 'Well Done"

This is my second complete mini that I'm happy with.

I did this centurion a blue and red before when I did the warhammer but I stripped and rebuilt both. I have the warhammer to do next in same colors then I will start building some more.

here's a little trick with black.....

Don't use it!

Instead, paint with a very dark dark grey. I use Ceramcoat "Charcoal" for black. It goes on very dark, but not dark enough to drown out your details. You can still wash it and pick up all those nice panel lines, etc.

I actually don't mind it too bad now. I can control the darkness by adding a little medium gray to the mix AND the drybrushing with a light gray brings out everything. It requires a little skill I think and Gunz and Cy have been sorta coaching me on mixes etc.

Besides, if everything I paint is "easy" I will never develop skills to make things better.

Well, the first picture looks kinda like a thrusting forward weapon in a threatening pose. It's a good shot.

I really like the black with red accents. sort of like a reverse Blood Spirit pattern.
Looks like some people beat me to it with the black technique though. I was going to suggest
using a charcoal drybrush or codex grey maybee
Roses are red, violets are red, grass is red......
Oh Snap! BRB my lawn's on fire!!

Ok, now that I can really look at it I have a suggestion. Apply a targeted black wash to the grey areas. This will help tie the mini together. If you want to take it a step further, apply a targeted brown wash to the red areas as well. Still, looking good Overkill.  ;)

-Gunz

Edit: Almost forgot. :P  Using a contrasting 'bright' color like light blue or light green on the cockpit viewport would really it pop. :)
