Design challenge: Longinus without the suck

As I detailed in the Longinus' Battle Armor of the Week article, despite being the most technologically advanced of the Inner Sphere's trooper designs built in response to the Elemental, it has some flaws that leave it behind its peers in certain circumstances.

This challenge is to see what players would have done with the Longinus design if they'd been in charge of the project. There are some rules to the challenge, as detailed below:

  • The suit must be built on a Medium chassis
  • Inner Sphere technology only, no experimental technology, nor anything that would have been unavailable at the end of the 3050s
  • Post-3050s equipment may be used for alternative configurations if mountable on Modular Weapon Mounts or Squad Support Weapon Mounts
  • Ideally, the suit should only use equipment that would have been readily available to the FWL. For example, the Magshot would be an unlikely option, unless noted as a Jihad/post-Jihad configuration
  • The suit must use Advanced armor and be capable of withstanding a hit by an Inner Sphere Large Laser, preferably a Inner Sphere Large Pulse Laser
  • The suit must be capable of Mechanized Battle Armor tactics
  • Ideally, the suit must be capable of Anti-'Mech attacks, but for flavor purposes you could leave it out

Remember that the FWLM were looking for a trooper design, not a scout or fire support suit.

Medium BA (175 kg)
1 ground/3 jump MP (150 kg)
1 armored Glove RA
1 Battleclaw LA (15 kg)
10 points advanced armor (400 kg/5 slots)
LRR RA (175 kg/2 slots)
APWM LA (5 kg/1 slot)
OS-SRM2 LA (75 kg/1 slot)

A "do-everything" LRR as a fixed main gun, OS-SRM2 in the other arm to be able to keep jumping, Battle claw, APWM, and 10 points armor. Point blank damage isn't as good as a SL, but IMHO the doubled range is worth it.

The only problem is the main weapon isn't arm mounted anymore

I'll drop in a couple I like:

This one copies the style of the Achileus, and thus could even establish a FWL Battle Armor theme, with forearm weapon mounts and dual manipulators instead of a single claw. It has a heavier payload, more armor and also mounts an APWM, with nothing lost in comparison to other IS trooper designs. Notably, it can be equipped with a Support PPC or Medium Recoilless Rifle, giving it superior firepower than its competitors. For added flavor, a second APWM could be added to the left arm.

This version reduces the armor to the same levels as the other IS trooper designs and swaps the manipulators for a single Vibro-Claw, exchanging superior protection for superior melee capability, although I must admit I prefer the idea of the latter for a redesigned Raiden instead. The configurations would be identical to the above, so I've only included the Small Laser. Unlike the above design, a second APWM couldn't be added since that would disallow the PPC and Recoilless Rifle configurations.
