The use of the original Star League sourcebook font on the first page is a real nice design touch.  Kudos.

Its good, very very good.  Just had a quick flick through it, and now going back for a good read.  I particular love all of the SLDF Navy details!

Best book to come out in quite a while IMO, this era is soooo much more interesting (fluff wise, not really equipment wise) to read about than the Jihad.

I read quite a bit of it, skimmed the whole thing, and I love the crap outta it.... it'll be the first BT book I read from cover to cover, every word, in a *really* long time, since the 4th Succession War Atlases I think.

The maps were great, the writing style great, the detail in listing out regiments rocked, the only thing that kinda surprised me was ammo on the caspars and drones, I kinda figured they'd be energy based units, but still absolutely superb stuff.  Can't wait for more (like the FM SLDF 2750 stuff)!

I have only one thing to say:

That's so cool, but likely to give Bad_Syntax and Volt_Ampere fits.

Dunklewälderdunklerflüssenschattenwelt

Holy heck that is one long honking name!!!

Trying to fit that on any dynamically created map is probably NOT going to happen!  Thanks Øystein!

Best translation I can get is "Dark forests dark rivers shadowy world".

Downloaded, glanced through it. So far I'm impressed but I'll have a better idea in after giving it a good read.

Dunklewälderdunklerflüssenschattenwelt

The name came about in a funny way.

I was bantering with Herb over Instant Message, and we were discussing something, and I make an offhand comment that X should visit the planet "Bob". To which Herb replies "We have a planet named Bob?!".

Which of course, at the time, we did not.

So I made up one of my usual yarns about "It is a dead planet that was named something horrible, but decided to change it's name. But unfortunately in the chaos of the 1st Succession War, the name change got misfiled and all necessary goods they ordered to be sent to the planet "Bob" went nowhere, because records didn't show such a planet existing. It was not until the end of the 1st Succession War the error was discovered, but then the vital terra-forming equipment had failed and the planet was uninhabited. Such a sad sad fate."

To which Herb about fell over with laughter and decided to make it canon, and he came up with the original name.

Cheers,
Øystein

Hello,

The name came about in a funny way.

I was bantering with Herb over Instant Message, and we were discussing something, and I make an offhand comment that X should visit the planet "Bob". To which Herb replies "We have a planet named Bob?!".

Which of course, at the time, we did not.

It was not until the end of the 1st Succession War the error was discovered, but then the vital terra-forming equipment had failed and the planet was uninhabited. Such a sad sad fate."

To which Herb about fell over with laughter and decided to make it canon, and he came up with the original name.

And the canonical reference appeared thus in the latest chapter of the Finding Jarine serial on BattleCorps:

Quote
“Well, I’m pretty sure we’ll pull it off,” Tibor said, managing something of a smirk. “We’ve been in worse scrapes before.”
Brooke smiled as she thought about it, but it was only half a smile. Maybe, my friend, she thought. Then again, maybe not.
“Hey Brooke,” Tibor added, “remember that time on Bob?”
Brooke was part-way into her next bite when she started to chuckle at the memory. “Oh, yeah,” she said. “That was pretty messed up...”
Alahni’s head listed to one side for a moment. "Wait,” she said. “On Bob? This was a planet you’re talking about?”
   “Sure is,” Tibor said, smirking.
“Someone actually named a planet ‘Bob’?”
“Well, it's not around any more,” Brooke told her. “Kind of like your Jardine here, it vanished from the maps.”
“But who would name a planet ‘Bob’?” Alahni asked, incredulous.
“Well,” Tibor said, shifting himself forward, “the story goes that it was settled by Germanic or Swiss colonists, and had an original Germanic name—the kind that surpassed the syllabic requirements of a haiku—so some smart-ass locals started a movement to just rename it planet ‘Bob’.”
   “And they won?”
“Oh, the local governor loved it,” Tibor said. “He wasn’t terribly fond of German or Drac speak.” His real eye practically sparkled with mirth, even though its mismatched counterpart looked dull and unfocused.
“At least the name could fit in the haikus then," Brooke said with a grin. “Big plus when your world finds itself on Kurita’s side of the border.”
   At this, Alahni finally laughed.

True story!

Oh  :'(

Proper German would be:

Dunklewälderdunkleflüsseschattenwelt

However, this horrible German makes it far more plausible to understand that they wanted to change that planet`s name to "Bob".
Nice detail  O0

We blame the german-illiterate draconis combine clerk at the Ministry of Colonization who took down the name from the charter. They demanded an explaination what the name meant, and it got translated back again to german via the Ministry's own internal translation software. Which wasn't too good at german :)

I would go for Dunklerwälderdunklerflüsseschattenwelt (which would roughly have the meaning of shadowy world of dark forests and dark rivers)- you see even german native speaker might disagree on this  ;).

And on topic: Can't wait to read more (silly job but it payed for that book)  but I am already pleased that the IS still has some of the dronetech...
