2nd CJF incusion to Skye ?
« on: 31 July 2012, 23:45:33 »
I have just finished reading "Flight of the Falcon", and I thought that the next one in the series was "A rending of Falcons", but the first chapter has them already well established on Skye. Did I miss a novel ?

Cheers

Blood of the Isle actually comes after Flight of the Falcon. Rending comes later.

Roosterboy can probably answer this better, but...

I'd start with Ghost War to get an idea of what exactly happens in the Republic post HPG blackout (and it is the very first Dark Age book chronologically)
- Next up, A Call to Arms set in 3133. I actually think this is probably one of the best Dark Age (hell, Battletech books) written
- The Ruins of Power takes part at the same time but is pretty cringe-worthy. But it does give you an idea of what is happening on various planets post Blackout.
- You can probably skip the Proving Ground trilogy, but it does cover the Steel Wolf attack on Terra and that 3133-34 time line. But again, they're awful.
- By Temptations and By War is set in 3134 and covers the fall of Liao and the early attacks on Prefecture V/VI by House Liao. Another very, very fine book
- The Scorpion Jar, Sword of Sedition and Fortress Republic cover 3134-35 and look at the death of Victor Steiner Davion, the election of Levine and all the fun and fights amid the break away of the Senate, etc.
A good little three parter there
- I didn't like Target of Opportunity, but it covers the Republic attempting to restore the HPGs in 3135.
- Surrender Your Dreams and Wolf Pack sort of cover 3136-38. Both are good books and while Wolf Pack is about Annie K and her Wolves it also gives you a great look into the various proto-nations and "Neighborhoods" that spring up as the remaining Republic falls apart.
It's actually a great book

- Next, Masters of War takes in the Clan Wolf invasion of Prefecture IX in 3137.

After that you'd probably skip the Marik books to come back to the Republic in A Bonfire of Worlds.

Note, I've left out the Falcon books in the middle there because you said you had already got them.

A Bonfire of Worlds doesn't have that much to do with the Republic.  It's really more about the LC, though Tucker Harwell's captivity and revelations tie into the Republic.  I'd advise reading it last, just because it is the cliffhanger.  But, certainly read the FWL arc before it, as that sets up most of the tensions in Bonfire.

Totally, bonfire is the last thing he should read. I think it does fit in with the republic books though, with tucker, etc.
I just suggested it because the original poster sounded like they'd already read it.

I rather enjoyed some of the Marik novels.
