Kobe - House Steiner vs Historicals
« on: 09 October 2012, 05:44:34 »
According to House Steiner (The Lyran Commonwealth), the planet of Kobe in the former Tamar Pact region was settled in the early 25th century and was turned into a garden paradise that became a popular vacation spot during the Star League era.

However, Kobe doesn't appear on the maps in Historical: Reunification War or Handbook: House Steiner with dates prior to 2750. Is Kobe another world that got knocked off maps during the Age of War and which was then recolonised during the Star League era?

It's more interesting than optimal, and therefore better. O0 - Weirdo

One explanation is that a settled world will often times not appear on ComStar maps until an HPG was constructed there, or it became an 'important' enough world to be placed on maps for people to know it existed by other agencies. Think of it as map makers ensuring that they aren't wasting time remaking maps including colonies that have failed or no longer exist.

It's better to err on the side of caution then to include places that aren't there anymore. Sort of like drawing a bridge over a river that isn't finished yet, hoping it'll be finished when the map goes for publication.

Sorry Aaron, but that is not an explanation/excuse we ever use :)

100% of all settled systems within the Great Houses and Near Periphery nations are shown on the maps. 100%.
There is no "too small to be shown" if it is within a Great House.  HPGs has also nothing to do with any systems ever appearing on any maps. If it is not on the map, it is deader than a norwegian blue.

Periphery is slightly different. Outside of the Periphery Realms, a world is only shown if it has some kind of importance.

As for Kobe - it was settled in the early 25th, died out for some reason, and was resettled during the Star League.

With regards,
Øystein

So I'm sort of right, just not in this case! :)
