Invincible class Carrier
« on: 17 February 2013, 13:36:25 »
This is my first attempt at the Large Naval Support rules, don't quite have all the tech codes down yet.  I went with the effect rather than dealing with BTs Schizotech problems, so even though this is a modern day ship it has some Star League tech (including the Phalanx "Dalek" Anti-missile system) and I ignored the 3 kitchen limit on vehicles.  I went with the earlier version of the British Invincible class, but ended up making it an amalgamation of all the incarnations.  I also ignored spaces which I need to check back on.

And we rolled DICE for HOURS to play our games! There was none of this plastic clicky nonsense! Our DICE were radioactive TOO! And we had to roll them for hours and hours and hours to track EVERY SINGLE MISSILE! Why, my some of my friends are STILL rolling dice for their last turn when I left Norman THREE YEARS ago! Not at all, any tips you can give me would be very helpful.

Here we go.  Let's see what we got here.

Type: Invincible-class VTOL Carrier
Chassis Type: Naval Vessel (Large, Template D)
Tonnage: 23,590 tons              (Note: When calculating available space, round down.  23,590 tons results in 270 spaces)
Equipment Rating: E/X-X-F       (Note: Okay, you claimed Tech Rating B but used Tech Rating C structure and engine, so I changed that.  Also, the Thunderbolt launcher restricts availability F)

Equipment                                                       Mass
Chassis/Control:                                               4612
Engine/Trans:                      ICE                        5520.5  (Note: Here you have to round up to the nearest half-ton, not ton)
        Cruise MPs:                   3
        Flank MPs:                    5
Heat Sinks:                           -                              0
Power Amplifiers:                                                  0
Fuel:                                  12,500 km                6901
Turret:                                                                 2      (Note: Calculate weight of each turret, add them, then place result here)
Armor Factor (BAR 6):             1268                      61
       Front:                  42                   206
       Front R/L:            42                   206
       Rear R/L:             42                   206
       Rear:                   42                   206
       Turret 1:              42                    16
       Turret 2:              42                    16
Weapons and Ammo                                 Loc       Mass
Autocannon/5                                           T1          8
Autocannon/5                                           T2          8
Ammo AC/5 (12000)                                  B         600
Anti-Missile System                                    F          0.5        (Note: AMS is 0.5 tons, not 1 ton)
Anti-Missile System                                   T1         0.5
Anti-Missile System                                   T2         0.5
Ammo AMS (8004)                                     B         667
Thunderbolt-20                                          F           15
Thunderbolt-20                                          F           15
Ammo Thunderbolt-20 (450)                       B          150

Crew:

Cargo:
1003.5 tons                  (Note: Potable water and fuel storage have cargo capacity equal to Tonnage x 0.91.  I'll leave this open for your interpretation)
       1500 tons  10 fighter bays
600 tons   12 light vehicle bays

Notes: Features Tech Rating C chassis, engine and armor, flight deck (2500 tons), Lift Hoist (3 tons, Right), 10 field kitchens (30 tons, I'm going to leave this as is), MASH with 5 theaters (7.5 tons), Communications Equipment (15 tons), 50 infantry bays (250 tons).

Okay!  I've cleaned it up, so I'm going to check weight and....  wow.  This thing is overweight by 880 tons.  Come to think of it, you listed 1500 tons for the flight deck.  Do you think there is anything you can remove to get the target weight?  Oh, and as for space, you used about 76 spaces, so you are good.  Very roomy in that regard.

I checked the latest errata on TacOps v. 3.03 and it said that the Flight Deck was 1500 tons on page 48.

it's under:  Heavy Weapons and Equipment Combat Data (p. 407)

4) Flight Deck/Helipad, Flight Deck: change the Weight (Tons) from “2,500” to “1,500” (my book still says 25,000 tons).

Other than that, thanks.  I apparently made a lot of silly mistakes on this, it's a lot to keep track of, much more complicated that a 'mech.  I'll need to double check my other designs.

Otherwise I would shave in ammo and fighter/VTOL bays.

What era is the Invincible set in?  Thunderbolt Missiles became Advance Tech vs Experimental Tech by 3090.

Probably then.  I am trying to find the best way to emulate the Sea Dart missile system based on the weight of the missile.  Since later versions of the Invincible class dropped the missiles, I could probably turn those into more cargo space.

Naah.  Why show her when she was neutered?  Show her in fully glory would be best tribute to the old girl.
