Artillery Cannons were clarified in the TacOps 3.03 errata, and they now behave as direct fire ballistic weapons or indirect fire capable ballistic weapons if I understand those rules correctly.

In Battleforce gameplay, would they still be converted as Artillery, or possibly bestow the Indirect Fire feature instead?

Or option C: I've completely misunderstood something again...

Artillery Cannons in BattleForce haven't changed.  Both Artillery and Artillery Cannons can direct fire or fire indirectly.  (SO p285) "BattleForce uses two types of artillery: direct-fire and indirect-fire..."
Artillery Cannons are still treated as artillery because
1) Area of Effect
2) they always target the hex, but they don't get the immobile target bonus. they do get the direct-fire or indirect-fire to-hit modifier.
3) if they fire indirectly, they must use command points.
4) they scatter
All of which artillery do, but IF does not.
The solution is just ignore Paul.
