Clan Wolf Rho Galaxy "The Altered Beasts" 3145

a company strength force of unknown origin, painted in the colors last known to be used by Bannson's Raiders made an attack on Deep Fields. They proceeded to make a strike at a depot containing some of the galaxy's machines and munitions.

Unfortunately for these "Raiders" this depot was under inspection by Star Colonel Johan Kerensky of the 5th Wolf Sentinels and his trinary at the the time of attack.

A pitched battle ensued, and the raiders were repelled with over 60% of their force destroyed. Captured in the battle, heavily damaged, is an unusually large three legged mech. Clan Wolf Technicians estimate that this mech may have weighed as much as 135t. a new model of omnimech was also captured. The pilots, pulled from the wreckage of the ponderously slow behemoth have been turned over to the galaxy's Watch Liason for interrogation. It is likely that the new mechs obtained here will be of interest to the scientist caste for analysis.

Unfortunately just before the climax of the battle, an unlucky shot found Star Colonel Kerensky's Atlas in the head. The Autoeject system was unable to eject the star colonel in time, and he perished in the battle. Trials will be held to promote a replacement. Until such time as a replacement is appointed, the Galaxy Commander and his keshik have assumed leadership of the 5th Sentinels.

for some reason, its always the female Kerenskys who perform the best for me.  My CWX unit, their Jihad era ace was Sasha Kerensky, and she was a beast too. Both of them were Timber Wolf pilots as well.  Katrine doesn't have much in the way of customs yet, but she really likes the platform. She's not even gonna take one of the new base chassis they won, she's hanging onto her classic.

Mechwarrior Profile

Galaxy Commander Dustin Vickers has maintained his position in command of Rho Galaxy despite calls for a younger warrior to take his place (Star Colonel Josh Ward is often the first choice of those speaking up, though he is not among them). He has tenaciously maintained his edge, honing himself to the razor's edge so that none may call for his discharge on the grounds of weakness.

Galaxy Commander Vickers, did not rise to his position like a shooting star. Testing out as a simple mechwarrior, he showed more tenacity than natural aptitude and his determination earned him trial after trial, winning his way up each rung of the ladder. Such a dependable but unremarkable warrior was never destined for Khanship, and Dustin knew this, so he set his sights on the role of Galaxy Commander.

His Keshik is populated mostly with warriors in whom he saw some spark, some potential, but for one reason or another, would not have otherwise seen a proper posting. They are not the elite of the elite within this galaxy (such a moniker would probably be applied, instead, to Katrine Kerensky's trinary in the 15th Assault) but rather, wolves that the galaxy commander hated to see their potential wasted. Each of the Mechs beyond the galaxy commander's Warwolf, were taken as Isorla from other clans. Also attached to his Keshik is the 15th Assault's former Support Trinary, now organized as a galaxy-level asset. Comprised primarily of artillery vehicles, their presence in the 15th was more of an administrative placement than an actual fit with the galaxy.

Galaxy Commander Vickers is loyal to the Wolf Empire as a whole, and readily obeys the commands he receives but he was on good terms with the previous Khan, Seth Ward, and remains wary of Alaric and Anastasia, neither of whom have particularly impressed him. Anastasia Kerensky in particular is a bit of a sticking point with Galaxy Commander Vickers, citing her actions in transforming a portion of the Steel Wolves into the Wolf Hunter mercenaries, and the unclanlike actions entailed in that.  Though he is unhappy about her role in the clan, he has taken no actions beyond criticizing her worthiness. His opinions of the new leadership are one of the few strong points of disagreement between Dustin and Josh Ward, who have been known to debate the matter during their free time.

Rise of the Underdogs, or Every Wolf Has Their Day?

the 5th Sentinels could not continue going leaderless, so Trials of Position were held, tournament style, to replace the fallen leader. As the 5th Sentinels is the least well equipped Cluster in Rho Galaxy (an experiment in mixing equipment levels within the galaxy) response from other clusters was lukewarm. The one taker from outside the 5th Sentinels was Sohlama Brevet Star Captain Catarin of the 3rd Jaegers' Security Trinary.

From within the 5th Sentinels, Came Star Captain Ritter of Heavy Trinary, Star Captain Rob of the Armor Trinary, Star Captain Meltem of the Security Trinary, and Star Captain Yadigar of the Light Trinary.

In the first round, Star Captain Yadigar boasted that he did not need his wolfhound's full compliment of weapons to best Brevet Star Captain Catarin in her Urbanmech R60. He bid away two light ppcs, forcing techs to disable them before the fight, leaving him only a Snub-Nose PPC. In a fast but brutal trial, Catarin weathered the PPC fire, only to push her autocannon beyond safe limits and saw off the wolfhound's Right Arm, and with it, the snub-nose PPC. Unable to catch the urbanmech and pummel it, the trial was declared ended, Catarin its victor. She was declared a full Star Captain at this point, in no danger of being demoted once her temporary promotion was over

The second round of combat saw Star Captain Rob of the armor trinary, in his Demolisher against Star Captain Ritter's Rakshasa 1Ar. Seeing Yadigar's bravado lead to his downfall, Ritter declined to bid away anything from his arsenel. It was no matter, Rob's tank excelled in the confines of these rocky crevices where the trials were held, and the only thing that saved Star Captain Ritter from a grisly death beneath a hail of autocannon shells as they annhilated the cockpit block, was the sensitive head-breach ejector sensors. Star Captain Ritter remained a star captain.

Star Captain Rob then faced the infamous Star Captain Meltem, designated dezgra for conduct unbecoming a warrior on and off the field. Too Effective to condemn to the infantry, Meltem had been assigned an ancient mackie, and given command of equally primitive mechs, meant to defend backfield assets like command posts and artillery bases. the Keshik was nervous about the prospect that Meltem could win. All that stood between him and the position were a Demolisher and an Urbanmech. Even an old mackie ought to be able to overcome those. The trial began, and it did not take Rob and Meltem long to find one another. Meltem took spiteful glee in picking apart the demolisher tank. He ran his heat up, but disregarded the mackie's complaints, punishing this impudent tank who dared dispute his claim to leadership. But, Rob would not quit. He baited Meltem forward then drove him back, and punctured the aging mech's autocannon bin, setting it off. Meltem's own barrage ravaged the tank, leaving it only marginally functional, but he was defeated. Rob was the victor once again.

With the tank crew injured, it was ruled that Rob's final round against Catarin would be conducted hand to hand. Some felt this was not sporting, as Catarin was growing old and it was argued, more fragile, and Rob was freshly bandaged from his fight with Meltem. Both silenced their critics, claiming they would demonstrate that they still possessed the spirit of the Wolf, and would not shy from this fight.

Catarin came out of the gate strong, driving Rob back until he nearly toppled from the circle of equals, but snarling, he threw Catarin across the ring and pounced upon her. Trading blows, They grappled and swung at one another until finally, Rob's fatigue betrayed him, and Catarin knocked him unconcious.

Star Colonel Catarin thanked her Urbanmech for bringing her this far, and commended her opponents on how hard they fought for the position. As commander of the 5th, she was due a grander ride, an Atlas III wrested from the hands of the republic, that had served its previous commander. Though Rob was not victorious, his tenacity and his victory over Meltem did not go unnoticed, and the Galaxy Commander made a note to give his trinary some much-needed attention.

Today CWF Rho Galaxy's 5th Sentinels took the opportunity to face off against a star from the Deep Fields Provisional Garrison Cluster in a friendly exercise. Star Colonel Catarin took her own star up against Star Captain Holly Hazen's star, and emerged victorious. The mock battle allowed both forces to get in some practice and keep their skills sharp.

Mechwarrior Profile

Star Colonel Catarin Wolf had thought her career over. Well past her prime, and really only in the cockpit of a mech because the clan's need exceeded its distaste for relying on older warriors. Still, she was proud of the ragtag band she was charged with leading. Being a Star Commander was more than enough for her. Yet, when the call went out for a trial to replace the 5th Sentinels' fallen Star Colonel she could not deny some urge inside of herself. She laughed at the odds she faced, surely an urbanmech like hers stood no chance against these foes. The outcome shocked even Catarin. Suddenly she had an entire cluster at her command. Suddenly, she had an Atlas. The Great Father had piloted an Atlas, though not one that looked or fought quite like this.

Catarin looked to the exploits of older warriors within the peoples of the inner sphere. Spheroid warriors quite often proved useful into their later years, and she would be damned if she let any aging spheroids show her up without a fight. She would do her cluster, no, her galaxy, no, Her Clan proud. Though the warriors of the 5th sentinels were not well equipped in the way the 15th Assault was, nor were they the elite of the galaxy either, Catarin was determined to see them fulfill their mission. Each cluster in the galaxy had its place, had its role, and would make the best use of the troops available to them. Catarin would see to it that the 5th lived up to its duties, and maybe the fires of battle would temper her warriors, burn away the impurities and the fat, and leave them stronger. If the clan saw what she could do directing these warriors, in these machines, maybe, just maybe, the 5th might see a higher priority in the future.

What had been supposed to be a trial between Star Colonel Seraphine Clarke, and Star Colonel Josh Ward, accompanied by their stars was interrupted by an unknown force. This force appeared to have visited some manner of word of blake fire sale, for it was composed of two six-machine units, a mech Level II employing  C3i and a vehicle level three that appeared to be the product of the mercenary surplus market. Attempts to contact their respective clusters were thwarted by a bizzare sort of ECM. Several effects that had initially been ascribed to natural factors were revealed to be novel electronic countermeasures as the battle went on. Several times, mechs appeared to possess the wrong IFF codes, leading to some confusion and improperly targeted shots.

Foxes and Wolves alike abandoned the trial to turn and eviscerate the intruders. Only one mech, a crab, was able to escape. During the battle, one of the wolf vehicle crews met their demise, and the other was injured. both tanks were disabled/destroyed. Attempts were made to capture enemy pilots, but the mechs that were incapacitated proceeded to self-destruct, denying the clans both salvage and captives. One mech, a Guilotine decapitated on the first exchange of fire, was retrieved otherwise intact, and a Gargoyle Prime, Timber Wolf D Variant and several sea fox mechs proceeded to stun the last remaining tank crew, leaving a dazed and disoriented group of prisoners inside an inert tank.

When all enemy units were finally disabled, radio contact was reestablished with the 15th, and St Cpt Ivy Conners arrived post-haste with her star and their elemental partners. The site secured by their rapid response, salvage and custody could be obtained. Review of guncam footage and computers revealed the aforementioned novel ECM effects, on both sides of the trial. The two most popular theories for why the trial was intruded upon ranged from "the trial came too close to something they did not want found" to "the trial is some manner of systems test for this novel ECM system" but answers are not forthcoming, and no unusual electronics were located on the mechs involved in the battle. Led by Star Captain Ivy Conners, scouting elements of the 15th are sweeping the area for suspicious contacts and clues.

Katrine Kerensky and Jonathan Demos led their stars against a company of mercenaries, Grayton's Guardians, hailing from the Federated Suns. Disappointed at finding them, instead of the former wolves they had been hoping to locate and battle, they tore into the Guardians. Battle damage and losses were higher than anticipated, and when Katrine's Timber Wolf went down, the ready responders (Mechwarrior Nolan in his Phantom, Mechwarrior Mae in Ivy's Wulfen, and two points of elementals.) Though nicely equipped, the Guardians fell to the wolves. The first to go was a shiny and new looking Centurion Omni that appeared to be a lanceleader's ride. Next to go was the unit's overall commander in her Atlas III. By the time reinforcements arrived, combat loss grouping was beginning to take its toll, and the guardians were attempting to withdraw.

Escaping to fight another day were an Enforcer III, Gurteltier C3M, Gurteltier MBT, AC/2 Carrier, and Valkyrie QD1. Salvaged from the field are the Centurion Omni, the Atlas III, a manteuffel attack tank c, Victor 11D, Hollander III D1, and a sagittaire 14D, most of which were in need of significant repairs. Also retrieved was the Accurate Kingston DDS Clan Extended Range Particle Projection Cannon from the destroyed Black Knight. Interrogated prisoners revealed little of value, they were just someone's pawns.

Star Commander Charlotte Seles faced a star of ambitious mercenaries equipped with machines from Clan Ghost Bear's portfolio. At the onset, the forces appeared to be rather closely matched, but fortune favored the mercenaries and their inexorable advance crushed Charlotte's star to the last mech. This crushing defeat leaves the 15th Assault 5 mechs smaller, and leaves the 5 pilots, their fates unknown, in enemy hands. Worse, their foes suffered only superficial damage, save for the reactor of a Vulture III that suffered some damage. Still, it is expected that this "Karbala Klan Killers" unit presents further threat to the wolf position, and it is expected that their forces will be seen again soon.

In a series of encounters that do not deserve to be classified as Trials, portions of Rho Galaxy came into conflict with a mercenary unit calling themselves Dragoons Wolves(Lawsuit Pending.). Seemingly one of the masterminds of this unusual taskforce, Josh Ward agreed to meet the head of this unit in a fair trial, but left himself some units in reserve, as these WERE mercenaries, and treachery would hardly be surprising for one who would profane holy combat with monetary concerns. To absolutely no one's surprise, but to the distaste of all of those in the 15th Assault Dragoon's Wolves did not fight fair. The first rumbles of this actually came when a large portion of Dragoon's Wolves fell upon the two stars Josh held in reserve from his own Trinary. The warriors of Josh's Trinary shattered the force that came to break them, but were in no condition to reinforce Josh when he needed it.

Star Captain Katrine Kerensky responded to the emerging situation and took both her star and her subordinate Jonathan Demos' star to Reinforce Josh Ward. On their way, they encountered additional forces from Dragoon's Wolves, and smashed them with all the brutality they could muster. Down only by a single mech (which will soon be operational once again) Katrine charged for the battle where Josh faced twice the original bid. Facing him were both the units commanded by "Russel Dragoon" and the Infamous Dmitri Kerensky, who betrayed Clan Wolf when it was revealed that he cheated to obtain his bloodname.

When the battle was joined, Star Commander Clarence Kerensky, temporarily rounding out Josh's Star, requested to engage Dmitri and clean the stain from the house of Kerenskys. Sadly, Clarence was unable to do so, as Dmitri's people focused their wrath upon his linebacker and felled it. Shortly thereafter, Omar's Timber Wolf was brought down and Josh's unit was driven back. As Dmitri taunted Josh, Katrine's force arrived on scene and fell upon the Dezgra mercenaries. To her satisfaction, she was able to down Dmitri herself. Soon, the mercenaries were on the ropes and only the timely arrival of forces from the Karbala Klan Killers allowed three of their foes to escape with their lives. In the final exchange of fire, Josh Ward's Warwolf was shattered by fire from Russel Dragoon's Mangonel, a gauss slug crushing his center torso. The Traumatic Damage triggering his autoeject system, Josh flew clear of his disintegrating Mech just in time as a Medium Laser gouged a hole into the cockpit he had occupied only moments prior.

For his bravery in standing his ground in the face of such an assault, Josh decided to make Russel his bondsman despite everything else. When Katrine later demanded to know what he was thinking, bonding someone who had lied like that, Josh laid out his reasoning which mostly centered around Russel showing true potential in that last moment, and that his desire to be a wolf could be used to their advantage. Should Russel prove worthy, Josh intends to see him transferred to the Deep Fields cluster they recently gave birth to, to bolster Wolf-oriented sentiment within the cluster (which has a rather large falcon composition)

Mechwarrior Profile

Star Commander Jonathan Demos is a fast-rising star within Rho Galaxy. Jonathan shows exceptional skill in combat, nearly entirely unfazed by range between him and his prey. Despite his skills, Jonathan has been intentionally slow to rise within the ranks of the Wolf. Guided by higher ranking Wolves like his commander Star Captain Katrine Kerensky, and their commander Star Colonel Josh Ward, Jonathan has not sought higher levels of command, in order to stay clear of the politics that a leader must inevitably deal with. Remaining at the Star Command level in one of the best equipped trinaries in their Galaxy, Jonathan Demos focuses purely on the glory of combat. Within the Galaxy he commands more respect than a Star Commander usually would, carrying the same requisition priority as his Star Captain does. Star Colonel Ward and Star Captain Kerensky take good care of Jon and his star, and in return they command fierce loyalty from him.

Jonathan pilots a Warwolf gifted to him by Katrine Kerensky who prefers to pilot a Timber Wolf. Like Josh, he prefers the Alpha configuration, but his own personal warwolf has acquired a Kingston DDS model Clan Extended Range PPC, salvaged from a Black Knight and modularized. This Particle Cannon is noted for its accuracy, and with Jonathan's skills at long ranged combat, it makes him extra deadly.

Jonathan knows that if he takes care of his pack, his pack will take care of him. The sense of family this engenders is almost reminiscent of Clan Ghost Bear. Jonathan is not fond of Star Captain Martin Carns who holds him in low esteem due to his lack of ambition. Carns is blinded by ambition and does not understand why a warrior would pass up a chance at higher ranks. Nor does he think terribly highly of Khan Alaric Wolf nor saKhan Anastasia Kerensky. He will follow the clan's leaders, but he does not have to like them. This is one of the few points on which he can agree with their Galaxy Commander.

Star Commander Jonathan Demos lead the counterattack to dispatch the Karbala Klan Killers and recover their captured allies.  His star faced the K^3 star near their base of operations. With nowhere to run, the Killers fought fiercely and the pitched battle took its toll on the Wolf star, with heavy damage to two of the five mechs, and near complete destruction of a Mad Cat III 2. the Star Commander and Nail's Warwolves were far less damaged than their companions in the thick of the fight.

the K^3 were destroyed, no quarter offered, each mech in the mercenary star hunted until it was brought down. Then, wolf transports and infantry were called in to secure the K^3 base. Star Commander Charlotte Seles, Mechwarrior Siaki, Mechwarrior Linda, Mechwarrior Nilsa, and Mechwarrior Bisrat were all recovered. Their mechs were recovered as well, but parts had been scavenged from them and it would be some time before these mechs would be operational once more.

The Cobalt Keshik remains a flexible leadership and combat asset at the head of Rho Galaxy. Home to a star of (most of Rho's independant) Aerospace Assets, a star of elementals, and a star of mechs, Galaxy Commander Vickers directs the entire galaxy from this Keshik. Most commonly, the keshik's units are seen operating in concert with other elements of the galaxy, but they have trained to operate as a cohesive unit as well.

Administratively this unit is attached to the Keshik to make room in the 15th Assault. This unit provides direct and indirect fire support for the Galaxy. With integrated spotting units, it can direct its own fire, or it can be attached to other units within the galaxy. Not a glamorous posting, but an increasingly necessary facet of battle, especially when Rho deploys for large-scale engagements.
