Mechanized Battle Armor with Early OmniMechs
« on: 14 November 2013, 20:12:06 »
Hello,
In reading about mechanized battle armor, I realized I did not see explicit mention of OmniMechs debuting before 2868 (the Coyotl, the Lupus, and the Woodsman) being used to transport Elementals (ED:GC, pp 22-26).  Additionally, most of the configurations of the Coyotl and Lupus are not ideal for combat with Elementals on board.  TRO 3050 U p. 112, says "the OmniMech concept underwent one major modification ... in 2868".  Does this mean earlier OmniMechs could not be refitted or retrofitted, and could not transport Elementals?  Or were they just been refitted or retrofitted to allow mechanized battle armor capability?  Thank you!
Steve

That's correct. Early OmniMechs did not have the mechanized Battle Armor transport capability. It wasn't until later that Clan Hell's Horses came up with the technology improvements to make that happen.

Now some of those early OmniMechs could have been retrofitted with the mechanized BA capability, but not necessarily all of them were. As of this time, I don't know of any that were specifically mentioned as never having that ability.

Whoa, wait a second, is the addition of mechanized battle armor capability the distinction between first-generation and second-generation OmniMechs?
