------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
     A carrier/battleship hybrid, the Federated Suns Columbia class Battleship
was the pride and joy of the AFFS Navy, a shining beacon that acted as a
centre point for their Battle Fleets.

==Capabilities:==
     With a tern of speed that would put a modern Destroyer to shame, the
Columbia class was a race-horse, designed to escort DropShips in-system during
planetary invasions and obliterate any picket ships and orbital defences.
Despite its size, the Columbia class relied on its complement of Aerospace
Fighters for its offensive punch, its armament being relatively light, and
geared more towards defensive capabilities.
     This said, the Columbia was capable of going toe-to-toe with any ship
that made the mistake of thinking it was an easy kill: multiple Tronel-55
Series Naval Lasers spaced out in double-turrets around the hull provided the
bulk of the firepower, while a concentration of four Sunspot-3L Naval Particle
Projection Cannon in the nose provided a head-on punch that could inflict
damage on most Warships.
     Rounding off the armament, and providing an extreme-range punch, the
Columbia was equipped with twelve Killer Whale Missile Tubes in the
for-section, allowing it to target multiple hostile Warships at one time.

==Battle History:==
Battle of New Avalon (First Succession War)
     When a large DCMS force made a push towards New Avalon in the early years
of the First Succession War, three entire Battle Fleets were called in to
bolster the standing guard-fleet. These were lead by the Battleships Columbia,
Acropolis and Atlantia.
     The fierce fighting that followed claimed all three Battleships the
Acropolis and Atlantia were destroyed outright, while the Columbia was so
badly damaged it had to be towed out of orbit and scrapped for much-needed
parts.
     Despite this, the attack was pushed back, but at the cost of the New
Avalon Shipyards, the birthplace of the Columbia class Battleship.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Armed Forces of the Federated Suns:
FSS Columbia (Lost, First Succession War)
FSS Acropolis (Lost, First Succession War)
FSS Atlantia (Lost, First Succession War)
FSS Pacifica (Lost, Second Succession War)
FSS Pegasus (fate unknown)
FSS Rycon (fate unknown)
FSS Triton (Lost, Second Succession War)

==Deployment==
     Officially, three Columbia class Battleships, the Columbia, Acropolis and
Atlantia) were lost during the long and bloody First Succession War. The
Pacifica and Triton were lost early in the Second Succession War, having never
been fully repaired following battle during the previous war.
     It is at this point that the facts become a little hazy: two Battleships,
the Pegasus and Rycon, remain unaccounted for.
     Official AFFS Admiralty records show them as lost in action, but no
additional information is given. This leads some conspiracy theorist to
believe that the two Battleships were mothballed at some hidden location when
the knowledge needed to keep them operational was lost during the Succession
Wars.
     Where they could have been hidden remains a hotly contested topic; all
known shipyards capable of handling the task were destroyed or damaged during
countless raids and assaults. This leaves secret naval stations hidden in
uninhabited systems and above worlds rendered uninhabitable during the dark
days of the early Succession Wars.
     The truth may never be known, but there have been unconfirmed reports of
at least one ship matching the outline of a Columbia class Battleship seen in
the livery of the AFFS Navy making its way across the Federated Commonwealth
shortly before the start of the Davion Civil War.
     Whether or not this is truly one of the missing Battleships remains to be
see.

Great ship, I have an upgrade from the AU I'll post next couple of days.
My three main Alternate Timeline with Thanks fan-fiction threads are in the links below. I'm always open to suggestions or additions to be incorporated so if you feel you wish to add something feel free. There's non-canon units, equipment, people, events, erm... Solar Systems spread throughout so please enjoy

==Overview:==
     A carrier/battleship hybrid, the Federated Suns Columbia class Battleship

==Capabilities:==

==Battle History:==
Battle of New Avalon (First Succession War)
     When a large DCMS force made a push towards New Avalon in the early years
of the First Succession War, three entire Battle Fleets were called in to
bolster the standing guard-fleet. These were lead by the Battleships Columbia,

     Despite this, the attack was pushed back, but at the cost of the New
Avalon Shipyards, the birthplace of the Columbia class Battleship.

==Variants:==
     In 3075, the Federated Suns surprised everyone by unavailing the FSS
Rycon, a ship presumed to have been lost almost three centuries before. The
Columbia class Battleship had undergone an extensive refit to better suit
modern space combat. Two of the bow-mounted heavy particle cannons have been
moved to the forward arcs, allowing for a better field of fire. The Killer
Whale tubes have been upgraded to the Maelstrom AR-10 Missile Launcher,
allowing the ship to fire Barracuda and Great White missiles. Twin Medium
Naval Gauss Rifles have been added to each broadside, increasing the Rycon's
ability to engage other capital ships.
     But it is in the smaller weaponry that the biggest difference has been
made: 16 Mydron Excel LB 10-X autocannons, 16 Holly LRM-15 pods with Artemis
IV fire-control systems and 32 BlazeFire Systems Large Lasers provide
extensive defence in every direction.
     All these improvements came at the cost of almost half the cargo
capacity, but the engineers handling the refit were able to expand the old
55-meter gravity deck into a second 65-meter deck, allowing for better crew
quarters and facilities. They also took out the passenger cabins and put in
room for a company of battle-armoured marines for repelling boarders or taking
hostile ships.
     The Rycon retains the trademark lightning speed and heavy armour of the
original Columbia, allowing it to out-run the few things it can't out-gun.

Nice work and thanks for sharing. Only thing missing is the RACs for that tried and true AFFS flavor.

RAC's are more prone to jamming, and cluster-ammunition always feels right when it comes to Triple-A

Posting this here because Dragon Cat had to pass on it, so it's not going to give anything away. Just assume that it's from an AU of his AU.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
      Badly damaged during the First Secession War, the Columbia class
Battleship AFFS Rycon was, along with her sister-ship Pegasus, placed in a
long-duration solar orbit in an uninhabited system two jumps from New Avalon
in the hope that one day they would be able to repair them.
      However, by the time this became possible in the late 3060's, it was
clear that they would have to salvage parts from one to make the other
operational again. The Pegasus had suffered more damage to its armour belt,
but was structurally sound, compared to the Rycon that needed a new keel after
a run in with a pair of Draconis Battlecruisers. The Pegasus was repaired and
took part in the battle to liberate New Avalon from forces commanded by Jacob
Varnay in May 3073. The Rycon was left for later re-evaluation, the estimated
cost of repairing the vessel almost a third of what it had been to build in
the first place.
     This changed when Clan Nova Cat learned of the Rycon's existence in 3074.
In need of replacement hulls to offset those they lost in recent conflicts,
they approached First Prince Victor Steiner-Davion on the question of salvage
rights to the warship. It is not known just what they offered, but Victor
accepted, and the Nova Cats quickly moved to lay claim to their prize before
anyone else found it.

==Capabilities:==
     Renaming it the Star Cat, the Nova Cats started by stripping off the
remaining armour to allow them better access to the ships inner workings.
Eager to maintain the Columbia’s legendary speed, they kept the massive and
maintenance intensive Rolls Royce Kraken interplanetary engines, but gave them
a massive overhaul to bring them back up to factory-fresh condition. They also
replaced the damaged keel, then set about re-arming the ship.
     Two of the bow-mounted heavy particle cannons were then moved to the
forward arcs, allowing for a better field of fire. The Killer Whale tubes have
been upgraded to the Maelstrom AR-10 Missile Launcher, allowing the ship to
fire Barracuda and Great White missiles. Four Scarborough-30 Series Naval
Autocannons have been added to each broadside, increasing the Star Cat's
ability to engage other capital ships in close combat, an area where the
original design was lacking.
     But it is in the smaller weaponry that the biggest difference has been
made: 32 Faraday LB 10-X autocannons, 16 Type XXVI "Great Bow" LRM-20 pods
with Artemis IV fire-control systems, 16 Series 7K ER Large Laser and 16
Kolibri Delta Series Large Pulse Laser provide extensive defence in every
direction. The fighter bays have been expanded to handle up to two entire
Stars worth of OmniFighters each, and the passenger cabins rearranged to make
room for two Stars of Elemental Marines. All these improvements came at the
cost of almost half the cargo capacity, but the engineers handling the refit
were able to expand the old 55-meter gravity deck into a second 65-meter deck,
allowing for better crew quarters and facilities.
     So many changes had been made before the Star Cat was relaunched that the
Nova Cats decided to reclassify it as a Columbia II class Battleship.

==Variants:==
     None to date, but reports that New Syrtis Shipyards has placed an order
for the rare and expensive Kraken drives from Rolls Royce of Terra has lent
weight to stories that the Federated Suns and the Nova Cats are planning a
joint warship development project, with some variant of the Columbia being an
obvious choice, given that it is fielded by both parties.
     This rumour is so far unsubstantiated with no hard evidence to back it
up.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
CNC Star Cat

==Deployment==
     So far the Star Cat has only been seen in and around the area of space
knows as The Nova Cats Den, apparently undergoing a prolonged shakedown cruise
before it is passed as ready for combat.

Would enjoy seeing it go against a Clan Nightlord or Texas.
Would be an interesting battle.
I wish I could get a good grip on reality, then I would choke it.

A Federated Commonwealth WarShip without NAC's is just completely out of character though. The Davions do love their autocannons.

I really could swear that i have seen some artwork of Battlestar Galactica somewhere that had been adapted to put a jump sail on the back. Think I saw an Imperial I star Destroyer in the same place too. I really like this idea chief, it's dead sexy, especially since I like to write NuBSG fic!

Now all you need is for some one smaller to salvage the Pegasus and refit it with a truly stunning number of missile tubes in place of some of its current weapons!

If I may ask.

Where can I get my hands on these nice sized Columbia Class Battlestars?

These miniatures are just the right size. The one I have sadly is too big for use in Aerotech.
