Tribble 0028

They came from beyond the Periphery. Wielding highly advanced weapons and technology that seems to overpower even the most powerful armies in the Inner Sphere. They give no quarter and ask for none and decimate any who stand in their way. What's more, they are not human at all. Despite not having any battlemechs, these creatures and their advanced weaponry is enough to force many armies and mercenary companies to retreat from their holdings with what civilians that they can save.

When Jaime Wolf alerts the Clans of this new enemy, the Great Debate comes to a swift end and the Wardens, having warned the Crusaders of an event such as this, lead the Clans to the Inner Sphere to rescue their long-lost bretheren from this alien threat. Even ComStar, under Myndo Waterly, are unable to hide the facts of an alien invasion in the Inner Sphere and tries their best to fight off the invaders, but ultimately fail with Myndo Waterly dying at the hands of these creatures. With the arrival of the Clans, the tide against them turns as the Clans provide the IS armies with omni-tech and battle-armored troops.

The invaders stop their invasion, but they will return and claim humanity as their slaves.

Tribble 0029

Comstar was unable to completely eradicate the Terran Independents and the group slowly infiltrated Comstar over the centuries, calling themselves Terra Prime. in 3052 as Focht and Mori begin their coup, the group under Precentor Ian McKenna launch their own takeover and war engulfs Terra between Comstar and Terra Prime. The Master and the Hidden Five side with McKenna as well as other true Blakests, defeating Comstar and molding it into an arm of the New Terran Hegemony Government under Director-General Ian McKenna. As the Inner Sphere and Clans are stunned by the creation of the new nation, the Hegemony begins its plans to rebuild its own Star League. Bringing all forces home, the nation uses Comstar to initiate a Blackout across the whole Inner Sphere as its armies roll across the Terran March to take back every former world of the old Hegemony.

SLS McKenna's Pride is lost with all hands during the Liberation of Terra.  Including General Aleksandyr Kerensky  #P.  Although Amaris cackles with glee, he swiftly discovers that a furious Aaron DeChevilier is more than a match for his remaining forces.  The Rim World defenders are defeated, Amaris is captured, the Court of the Star League unsealed, and Amaris is shot.

When the High Council meets, they refuse to appoint DeChevilier as the Commanding General of the SLDF . . . and they demand that the SLDF disband.  DeChevilier complies . . . to a degree.  Calling for volunteers within the SLDF to serve the Terran Hegemony in rebuiilding, he demobilizes every last non-Royal division and regiment that has survived to date.  Those SLDF troops who wish to return home are discharged--the remainder, all volunteers are inducted into the reformed Hegemony Armed Forces, to which DeChevilier transfers all of the SLDF Royal Divisions, Regiments, and surviving WarShips.   :o

In an orchestrated event, the newly reformed Hegemony Senate offers General DeChevilier the post of Commanding General of the reborn HAF.  DeChevilier accepts.  Sufficient volunteers (and surplus equipment) from the disbanded divisions and regiments are on hand to bring the newly constituted HAF to a force of 38 Divisions (14 BattleMech, 2 Infantry, 4 Jump Infantry, and 18 Mechanized Infantry), plus more than a score of independent regiments (total strength of around 180 BattleMech Regiments, plus about 120 Armored Regiments and more than 200 Infantry Regiments).  Not to mention 400+ WarShips.   :o [drool] }:)

The House Lords are furious; this was not what they had in mind.  But it is too late.  DeChevilier speaks to each of them in soldier's terms:  if you want me, come and try it.   >:D

There is no Exodus.  Aaron DeChevilier becomes the Director-General of the Terran Hegemony and becomes romanticly involved with Elizabeth Hazen.  The House Lords refuse to recogonize the new realm, and soon enough the Succession Wars begin . . .  O0

What if, back in the dark day, Katrina Steiner and her travelin companions the Kells were met by some weird bandits, fighting with weird mechs never seen before... And winning?

No Peace proposal, no FedCom, no Kell Hounds, no Genyosha...

But maybe bloodname Kell earlier? Or would the Clans accept the young Kells?

Another point: Katrina Steiner vanished in 3005. What else happened in 3005? - The Dragoons arrived. The whole setup implies that the Dragoon compromise went a bit different, so I would expect no Dragoons in this scenario also.

It is 3051 and the House Lords have assembled on Outreach to unite their efforts against the Clans. Their children are trained by the Wolf Dragoons to be the leaders of their forces. But there was a B Class...

Usagi Davion, grand-daughter of Hanse Davion's first Champion. Ami Kurita, great-niece of Takashi Kurita. Rei Liao, Kali's twin sister. Makoto Marik, daughter of Duggan Marik. Minako Steiner, long lost daughter of Fredrick Steiner. Segsuna Hakondottir, younger sister of the Elected Prince. Hotaru Calderon, returing daughter of the lost Edward Calderon. Haruka Avellar, daredevil pilot from the Periphery. Michiru Centralla, who was visiting the local violin conservatory and got drafted as an ambassador.

These nine young women are being trained by Natasha Kerensky's pet surat to defeat the dark forces of Beryl Showers, the evil power behind the Clans and their Dark Khans. When the stars are right, the Great Father will awaken and shroud all the worlds in darkness unless the Senshi and their mysterious ally Endymion Focht can stop her.

Unbeknowest to Nicky and his band of Cultists, during the Exodus Civil War, naval Captain Jacob Davion (a member of a minor cadet branch of the House) sees the writing on the wall, and gathers his followers for a THIRD Exodus. Grabing what they can, they flee into the Black, seeking to find a place to begin again. They eventually settle on a planet Coreward of the Kerensky Cluster, and begin settling what will become known as the Kerensky March.

DUring the centuries that follow, they observe their cousins with a mixture of contempt, horror, and fascination. Many of the Bandit Caste raids are actually March units seeking samples of Clan technology.

When they realise that the Invasion is imenant, Duke Davion sends an envoy to his cousin in the Inner Sphere, containing all their data on the Clans and tech samples, along with a message: we can't stop them, but if you can hold them off, we can stab them in the back.

While the Invading Clans are getting mired down into an Inner Sphere that is more prepared than they anticipated, fleets of WarShips bearing the Sun and Sword start appearing in Clan space, devastating their orbital infrastructure and formentin dissent among the lower castes.

Dumb, or possible?

I'd probably just call Usagi by Bunny or Serena just because House Davion internally probably frowns on the use of Japanese names by members since they really can't have someone upset the Draconis March even in the extended family. As for Minako, that is a perfectly missed opportunity to use a full name of Wilhelmina or Hermina "Mina" Steiner. And come on, Lita works since it derived from Greek Mythology.

As for the rest, well the Japanese names probably work better, but the idea of Dr. Tomoe as Calderon just sends odd ideas through my head. "That little girl has red hair! She must be a Davion out to thwart my scheme . . . to the lab!"

I like it, but that's because I always wondered if any Davion family members went on the exodus. Obviously in canon, there are no Davion Bloodnames, but I figured that they didn't join the whole Kerensky Second Exodus. Though that does beg a question, why didn't anyone else you know bug out with some people during the Exodus Civil War on their own exodus?

Well, the SLDF did fragemnt into factions along House lines, at least at first. It makes sense for them to rally around familiar names.

Probably Nicky would have noticed if too many upped and left, but hey, it helps explain how 800 warriors were able to conquer the Pentagon worlds ... that's 800 including tank crews, fighter pilots and infantrymen ...  ???

The wizard Gandloff was looking for some one to help out retake middle earth. Intead of finding horsemen like he thought he did. Instead he found himself on a world called OutReach. The home to men who will for for just about any cause for for gold. He hired himself a combined arms regiment with good air cover and they showed up just into for the long shot over looking the city Helmdeep just before The horsemen show up. This time the long shot is tow Stuka areospace fighters blast over head just as the first mechs start a combat drop from the first hovering dropship to show up.
Middle earth never knew just what the heck hit it after the otherworld Mercs hit planet.

Michael Hasek-Davion and Anton Marik. Brother-in-Law to the First Prince and Brother to the Captain-General. Unsuccessful rebels. Maximilian Liao's puppets trusted allies.

So what if they didn't get used by Max Liao. What if instead, they worked together in the first decade of the 31st century, carving out private empires from the Capellan Confederation. And then in the mid-3010s, after the death of Ian Davion, they unite their domains, creating a new Successor State with the covert help of ComStar (potentially to be inherited by Morgan Hasek-Davion and a daughter of Anton.

Tribble #37

Prior to the Clan invasion the explorer corps. of ComStar discovers an alien device beyond the Periphery just rimward of House Davion. The device itself looks like a giant tuning fork and has no signature in any of their sensors. After the discovery of the device, ComStar makes painstaking efforts to cover it all up. Just one week of examining the device, it activates an a ship of unknown origin comes through. The ComStar jumpship in charge of the expedition, tries to make first contact with the alien vessel, but no response had been made. The alien ship then went back through the device and ComStar made the decision to have one of their dropships follow it through. Just a day later, all contact with the explorer corps ships abruptly halts; no further transmissions went to or came from the device. ComStar sends no other ships to determine the fate of the explorer corps unit.

Just a few years later after the destruction of Clan Smoke Jaguar, the Word of Blake detects strange activities going on near the moon of Charon and sends a dropship to investigate. The results are shocking, another device very similar to the one ComStar's explorer corps. discovered years before had been activated just outside of Terra's solar system. Elsewhere, other devices like the one over Charon and the one discovered by ComStar are being detected and activated. Even in the Clan Occupied realms and homeworld systems, the Clans are discovering these devices being activated. From one of these devices, a fleet of unknown ships appears over the world of Shanxi near the Periphery border of the Capellan Confederation and is attacked. The pirate defenders of this world send an emergency wide-beam transmission towards the Inner Sphere and request aid from the Capellans or the Suns; neither realm responds and all transmissions with Shanxi are cut off.

The Will of Toyama, a Word of Blake Aegis-class cruiser is sent to investigate; the ship discovered that Shanxi had been conquered by intelligent non-humans with some technologies far superior to their own. The fleet of the now confirmed alien vessels then opens fire on the vessel without allowing it time to escape, but they manage to send out an emergency transmission again towards the rest of the Inner Sphere. This time, the Inner Sphere pays attention to the transmission.

A week later, this same fleet of unidentified vessels arrives through one of these, now dubbed, relays over the Capellan world of Egress and launches an invasion of the planet. What little defenders on the planet fall quickly and news of the invasion reaches the capital. Sun Tzu Liao immediately orders a strike force to retake the planet. The alien invaders attempt to destroy the ships carrying the Capellan forces, but fail to stop the dropships from landing on Egress.

The battle on Egress becomes a slaughter of the aliens as they face the full might of the Capellan military as well as facing Battlemechs for the first time. After they launch an orbital bombardment of the planet, much to the shock of the entire Inner Sphere and the Clans, the aliens then retreat through the alien device near Egress. The Capellans then plan a full counterattack against these aliens.

A few days later, a ship comes through one of these relays near Outreach. This one, completely different from the ones that attacked Shanxi and Egress, sends a transmission to Wolf's Dragoons in perfect English saying that they represent an alien government known as the Citadel Council and they wish to negotiate a cease in hostilities between their races. Jaime Wolf then sends a message through all HPG networks towards the Successor States, the Periphary, and the Clans, asking that a meeting between the various leaders of these realms meet on Outreach to discuss these negotiations with the aliens. Surprisingly, the leaders of all the realms respond to Jaime Wolf's transmission and arrive at Outreach within a month and the negotiations with the Citadel represntatives begin.

Tribble 38 When Nicholas tries to inherit his Father's place at the leadership of the SLDF, the forces say 'Nuh-uh'. They don't want a hereditary overlord, they have seen what thta does to a realm when someone isn't as good as their parent.

Nicholas gets heavy-handed. And the historians in the oppressed SLDF come up with a response. Responsibly lead Socialist Revolution. And they win. Nicholas is defeated, and the revolution begins to take care of the division of power. The historians know that pure Socialism or Communism wouldn't work on such large scale, so they divide the whole into self-governing communes of at maximum about 2000 people.

Within a commune, labour is divided as evenly as possible. What a single commune is incapable fo doing themselves, they are free to trade with their neighbours. Only centrally led parts of the Union of Independednt Communes are the main trade network, including banking of the barter economy, and the defense. For they know that the greedy Oligarchies of the Inner Sphere would not like to see the power in the hands of the People on the scale they are doing.

Tribble 39 - Circa 3025, Thomas Calderon gets a vision of the Taurian Concordat's more horrific and stupid actions during the Jihad, with his anti-Davion paranoia being implicated as the root cause. He doesn't get anything about the historical context, so no foreknowledge of future events between 3025 and the Jihad, but the idea of his nation's capital city being flattened by an asteroid, with the TDF being easily lured into attacking the Davions like rabid dogs even after the real culprits are discovered, chills him. Only one detail of the culprits' identity remains with him. A modified Comstar crest.

Tribble 40 - Hanse Davion wakes up one day hearing voices. These voices whisper things to him whenever he does anything ("Micheal Hasek-Davion is plotting your downfall with the Cappellans..." "Comstar is hoarding Star League technology and seeks to become the secret masters of the Inner Sphere..." "The SLDF's descendants are still out there..."). Rather than trust these voices unquestioned, he tasks Quintus Allard to check on some of the things the voices are whispering about. When some of them check out, he cautiously allows the voices to advise him. Many of their suggestions are impractical at the moment, but there are a few ideas in there that just might give the AFFS the advantages it needs...

We're talking Morgan Kell here. Do you really think he's not badass enough to convince them to create a bloodname?

(besides which, IIRC Phelan's descended from the Wards on both sides of his family)

Phelan's Ward connection is more or less irrelevant, really, for Kell bloodname in case his dad gets nabbed by Clans back in the Katrina's Red Corsair run.

1) Phelan was conceived (or bottled) only with the SL/CLan level medical aid from the Wolf's Dragoons after 4th Succession War.

2) I didn't say the Kell boys were made Wards first. My stipulation was that they (and Katrina) run across 'Bandits' in the Periphery and manage to win, not completely, but enough to warrant plenty of attention.

What the Kell boys' lineage was might or might not affect their chance in going to a Bloodname house, but depending on the Clan they meet, it'd be almost foregone conclusion that they'd be at least considered for being made Bondsmen, and probably, with their rive, manage to become Warriors. And that could lead to creation of Kell bloodname earlier than in Canon.

We're talking Morgan Kell here. Do you really think he's not badass enough to convince them to create a bloodname?

(besides which, IIRC Phelan's descended from the Wards on both sides of his family)

Tribble 41

The Clans never invade due to a failed consensus and in 3053, the Federated Commonwealth once again prepares to invade the Draconis Combine after learning of the massive bluff that the DC had initiated in 3039. However, Hanse offers Theodore a way out of war by demanding a Union between the two nations thru a marriage between Victor and Omi. Theodore agrees despite heavy resistance in his nation as well as from those living in the Draconis March which leads to massive rebellions all along the border.

Comstar, realizing war with the Commonwealth is inevitable, uses the rebellions distracting the FC/DC Union to prepare their own political block by secretly arranging Sun-Tzu to take the throne of the CC by assassinating Romano. A new military union is formed between the Capellans and the Comguard to bolster the CC military using Star League tech. ROM also secretly removes those within its organization that are from the Combine including Sharilar Mori in order to protect its secrecy.

Conspiring with Sun-Tzu, Myndo Waterly secretly travels to the Free Worlds League, Magistracy of Canopus, Taurian Concordant, and the Marian Hegemony in order to persuade the nations to join with the Capellan Confederation in forming a new Star League. To solidify the League, arranged marriages are used between allied states as well as Comstar opening up its tech base to the periphery states.

In 3058, the FC/DC Union crushes the last resistance group in the Draconis March only to face a new Star League ruled by a Council under a powerful Reagan SDS on Terra.

A Rogue Trader(ish) tale of High Adventure! pre-Clans Inner Sphere set towards the end of the 2nd Succession War or very early during the 3rd. Teenager/young adult studying at the a military Academy is informed of a tragedy befalling his family and his inheriting the families beaten up, falling apart, old Merchant class JumpShip.

Follow his desperate adventures as he rescues his little sister from the evil uncle (who's in cahoots with pirates!) the man who orchestrated mom and dads death and then as he goes on to recover his inheritance and raid the pirates base with a hastily assembled crew of friends amd mercensaries.

Follow his risky trade deals while he tries to scrap together enough C-Bills to fix the old ship up a little or repair that Flux Capacitor thingy.

Watch as he somehow repeated lands in the middle of wars and skirmishes all and gets out agian by the skin of his teeth all over the Inner Sphere.

Travel along for the ride for chancy treasure hunts searching for lost Star League technology caches or lovely pirate booty (both in treasure chests and out)

Romance with the smoking hot leader of an all babe mercenary company with complications in the form of the smoking hot DropShip Captain.

Heroic blowing up/Ramming/decoying the venerable old Merchant JumpShip to save the day while the hero and co upgrade to a captured much nicer ship, maybe even a small Warship if SOD can be maintained?

Getting involved in politics and finally getting awarded a nice planet somewhere to settle down on.

All that fun stuff.

Our protagonist was training as a Mech warrior or maybe an AeroSpace pilot when he gets the bad news at the beginning. Or maybe he started as AeroSpace and got kicked out and was finishing up his tuition learning mechs ... whatever works. He's not the best MechWarrior or an Ace ASF pilot or the greatest tactician but he is pretty good works hard and just maybe has a little bit more than his fair share of luck . . .  mostly good but sometimes downright awful.

Tribble # 43

In Clan space, we hear about the Dark Caste, the bandits who are outside Clan society. Yet since the Clans are ashamed/ don't want to admit that they have renegades. the Inner Sphere doesn't hear much about them. Certainly, some are regressed hunter-gatherers, or hill tribes hiding from the Clan forces, but others are better equipped and organised, with some operating like organised crime for the Kerensky Cluster. How about we fill in some of the blanks, tell the stories of the side of Clan space they don't want told?

*The decendants of a regiment who stay true to the SLDF, carrying out a centuries-long gurilla war against the degenerates who tarnish the memory of the Star League, tired and outnumbered, but never giving up hope ...

*A Norsemen style community of raiders, who espouse the ideal of Elemental superiority ... mostly operating as normal infantry, but with some stolen or heirloom suits, they raid Clan holdings for food, equipment, weapons and slaves ... females of Elemental bloodlines, whatever the caste, are taken as breeding stock ...

*An isolated world in the Kerensky Cluster where the Exodus Civil war is still going on, with the decendants of rival units have backslid over the centuries: now they fight their battles with flintlock muskets and sabes, a la the Raj Whitehall books ...

*An angry but frustrated bandit chief, sick of being hunted by the Clans, yet dependant on them, says 'enough is enough,' and strikes out for the Inner Sphere, both to find a new life and also to warn the Successor States about the Clans ... but when the Watch is informed of his plans, can his wiley band of misfits outrun and outsmart a Clan hunting party, desperate to bring him to heel and crush the hope of his followers?

*In the heart of Clan space, on Strana Mechty itself, a secret cabal of lower castemen, bandit chiefs and a few sympathisers from the Warrior caste, plots to bring down the rule of the Bloodnamed and their thugs. Their leader? A shadowy figure who remains anonymous, but many believe is a clone of Aleksandyr Kerensky himself ...

Is ROM going to remove Anastasius Focht as well and thus completely cripple their military arm?

Terra is three jumps from the closest FWL world, and that using uninhabited systems or deep space jumps because it's completely surrounded. Using the Field manuals as the closest to accurate source for the relative time period, and giving any bumps to size for the FWLM and CCAF from worlds they wouldn't have in this timeline as freebies,  the combined mech forces of the Alliance of Huh-What?, comes in at 44 regiments for the CCAF, 74 regiments for the FWLM, 41 regiments for the combined Periphery Militaries, and let's call it 100 regiments for the Com Guards due to diligently pursuing every avenue to buff themselves just to weigh things disgustingly in their favor.

Presuming that the militaries of the FedCom-Draconic Axis of Doomety-Doom-Doom-Doom stayed steady at their 3049 numbers with 9 years of output getting devoured by 6 years of comparatively limited engagements, the DCMS wouldn't even have to bother to turn up because the AFFC still have a 20 regiment force surplus over their enemies.  This is ignoring the fact that the FRR, Oberon, and the Outworlds Alliance aren't going to be able to sign on fast enough out of fear of getting crushed to provide bored DCMS soldiers something to do, with the other less legitimate Northern Pirate nations providing object examples to speed that process along.

Just the Fed-Com-Com alone has more than two and a half times as many worlds as the new Star League.

Sun Tzu is entirely capable of feats of basic math, and would milk C* for everything he could get out of them before selling them out in a heartbeat in order to arrange his own dynastic marriage to Yvonne Steiner Davion if he could possibly manage it, Angela Hasek if he doesn't quite bring enough to the table.

Comstar's Warship supremacy would be steadily vanishing as the Fed-Com-Com made every effort to bring their own into production, and until that point could be countered by the threat of massed fighter swarms bearing nukes.  The idea that this would all happen in utter secrecy despite the involvement of multiple blood feuds between the members of the proposed alliance and the involvement of the Taurian Ministry of Intelligence in keeping the secret is also highly questionable without a great deal of groundwork being laid.

TL,DR: This setup needs a great deal of adjustment in order to be remotely balanced and not result in the new SL getting laughed at and self destructing as its leaders finally realize their situation after coming down off of their five year long bender. As in 'The Clans invade in 3058' levels of adjustment.

Tribble #43

Michael Hasek-Davion's plan in 3013 succeeds and Hanse Davion is killed by an anonymous sniper before he can take his brother's throne. The Fox has insurance however, and Duke Michael enjoys the satisfaction of his coming ascendancy for less than a month.

Power vaccums, of course, exist to be filled. Marie Davion is not particularly power-hungry but any other First Prince must neutralize her eight year old son, Morgan. Passing control of New Syrtis to one of her husband's cousins she make for New Avalon and pronounces herself Regent for Morgan. Aaron Sandoval withholds his support from her briefly, until she gives him a free hand in his March.

Neither Takashi Kurita nor Maxmilian Liao is very impressed by the new regent and fighting along both borders increases in intensity, leaving the AFFS mired in a two front war with Marie unable to support either March as much as they want her to and ComStar fanning the thoughts of independence from New Avalon in the nobility of the two Marches.

I'll have to adjust 41 then change it

Tribble 44

As the Star League's invasion of the Taurian Concordant rages on, the Taurian High Command decides to take the fight to the enemy by commissioning a task force to hit back within the Star League member states themselves. Twenty-Five ships (twenty Concordant frigates and five jumpships) and two full Battlemech regiments enter Davion space by using old star charts; traveling thru uninhabited systems to hit their targets. At first a few minor systems are hit until the Taurians raid a system near New Avalon. There is panic and the Star League is forced to divert resources from the Taurian front to deal with the enemy task force. As the Star League hunts down the Taurians in within the Federated Suns, the task force decides to hit the Hegemony itself......

Which actually would made quite a story in itself.
