Alright, I recently wrapped up the latest scenario for the Dancers. It was a battle that I thought was going to be brutal but turned out relatively one-sided thanks to a couple sets of fuel tanks on the map that got used to pretty devastating effect against the Blakists. I'll post up the battle report soon.

Also, while I work on the write-up, here's an amazing work-up of the Dancers' logo a buddy of mine made:

Edit: Dammit, how do I make this smaller?

[Control Tower] Say again, Tartan Master?
[Tartan Master] I saih, luv, th’ Northwin’ Highlanders ha’ finallah come to th’ fight. Weir bluidy readah t’ take it t’ those Blakist bastairds.
[Control Tower] Unbelieveable! We thought you guys were shit-for-toast! Welcome to Galatea!
[Tartan Master] It’s right bluidy glad we are t’ be here, laddie. Are y’ ready f’r us?

SITUATION
Galaport
Galatea, Lyran Alliance
5 October 3072

Ships bearing Northwind Highlanders colors and codes appeared at Galatea’s zenith point, shocking everyone. Claiming to have escaped Northwind and the clutches of the Blakists, they burned in to Galatea, intent on grounding and resupplying before taking up arms against the Word. The DropShips were allowed to enter Galatean airspace, because they were, after all, the famed Northwind Highlanders. And their arrival was backed up with reports coming from other systems regarding the Blakists’ urgent messages describing their escape.

The ruse was brilliant. And a nightmare.

Behind the façade of the famed mercenary regiment is the Word of Blake. Using authentic Highlander codes and IFF, the Word has caught the mercenary world with its pants at its collective ankles.

A wolf in a sheep’s tartan.

The Word has come. And Galatea is to be the next Outreach.

Victory!

AFTERMATH

It was pure hell.

The Dancers still aren't sure how they survived that swirling bloodbath; all that matters is that they got off that hellhole. Last they'd heard from their agent before he got “arrested” was that the Word had started rounding up all the MRBC Commissioners and was holding them prisoner in the main building complex. So far, no executions…so the Word’s got something up their sleeves.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SEEDS OF CHAOS

[CargoMaster Three]: “Dax, you read that? Galatean Control’s got good news, man! Un-malfing-believable!”

[Ordinance Four]: “Sorry, Jaz, missed it. Damned track is giving me fits again...”

[CM Three]: “See them Droppers? Those’re the Highlanders!”

[O Four]: “No shit? Jerry, you catching this?”

[LoadMaster Twenty]: “Yeah, just caught it from the supervisor. Man, are they a welcome sight. Those ships are a vision indeed! Maybe now, we can stick it back to those Wordies!”

[O Four]: “Wonder how they got away?”

[CM Three]: “Heard that ex-Cappie Jaffray’s been out pulling a battalion together…”

[LM Twenty]: “Really? I—Hey, why’re they splitting off ? Control’s got pits four through ten set for them…”

[Port Supervisor]: “Charlie, find out what the hell…”

[O Four]: “Hey, guys? Ummm, why are their cargo doors opening? What the hell are they—?”

[LM Twenty]:Heilige Scheisse! They’re hot-dropping! Wha—?”

[Port Supervisor]: “All ground crews, clear channels! We’ve got ‘Mechs coming down on—!”

[CM Three]: “Christonacrutch—Those aren’t Highlander—!

[Explosions]

[O Four]:JAZ! Blessed Virgin, they’re WORD O—!”

[Port Supervisor]: “All spaceport personnel, we are under atta—!”

[Fighter engines roar by, punctuated by more explosions.]

[LM Twenty]: “Ain’t no WAY they’re taking us down! Loadies! Get to the hangars! Get to the God da—!”

[O Four]: [Whispering] “OhmygodIvegotaKingCrabcharg—!”

[Squeal, static]

[Port Supervisor]: “Whoever’s listening, notify the city…the Word ha—”

I recently commissioned Plog to do a color piece of Jean Graves' custom Mad Cat Mk II in action, and a few days ago he sent me a preliminary sketch (I would have posted it at the time but the forums were down). Anyway, I thought it looked awesome so I wanted to share it:

Well, today marks the 10th anniversary of Graves' Dancers; I started this campaign on March 15, 2008, two or three iterations of these forums ago, and I just sat down for yet another session. Here's to another ten years!

Just wrapped up another session of the latest Graves' Dancers scenario after a long hiatus due to back-to-back European vacations on my and Taharqa's parts both and then some scheduling shtuff. But I do believe we're about two or three sessions away the end, as the Shadow Division lines feel like they're finally starting to waver. Tough bastards, though; it's been a real (and literal) uphill slog.

We have arrived at Benjamin. The enemy appears surprised by our appearance. We will not honor them with batchall or any other recognition of their status as so-called warriors. We will treat them as dezgra and exterminate them without consideration of isorla or accepting any terms of surrender.

—Journal entry for Galaxy Commander Ajax Drummond; 14 December 3072

SITUATION

Outskirts of Deber City
Benjamin, Draconis Combine
14 December 3072

Four years after their last visit, the Dancers are back on Benjamin. This time, they're backing a Nova Cat play, of all things; the Cats have decided to go all Trial of Annihilation on the Word after the Blakists had gone after Irece a few months back. Now the Clanners are so pissed they're willing to hire mercs just to show the Blakists how much contempt they hold for them. Hey, as long as their checks clear, the Dancers are more than happy to ride shotgun with some trigger-happy Nova Cats, and if they get to punch the Word in the mouth yet again, so much the better...

Mission: Shift Change
Location: Benjamin, Draconis Combine
Optional Bonuses: Demi-Precentors (+300 WP), Instant Upgrade (+500 WP)
Outcome: Total Victory
Payment: 176,000,000 C-bills

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFTERMATH

Chalk up another one in the win column! The fanatics made the Dancers work hard for it, but fighting against Manei Domini is a little more bearable when you've got a Clan Keshik on your side. And after Anna Pryde managed to bag Precentor Arioch as he made a run for it, the Cats were so thrilled they threw in a fat bonus payment for a job well done. That makes two Shadow Division commanders the Dancers have brought down so far; looks like years of practice battling Blakists is really starting to pay off...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So wait, we’re supposed to welcome the idea that our esteemed DCMS command actually embraces this method of cowardice? What load of gaijin bullshit is this?

Benjamin holds on through THREE separate attacks over the past few years: the Feddies and the Word before the latest smackdown with the Blakists. Our boys over there just SLAMMED those white-robed pansies off-planet last time, even without the emasculated Feddies’ help (which really, what the hell were they doing there, anyway? Did Sandoval finally step off the deep end?).

So here they come again, with as much metal as before, and this time—THIS TIME!—our idiot Tai-shu (I will NOT print his name, he is not worthy!)—just gives up?

Dekashita! Shimatta.

So now we can chalk up another Combine world gone down the toilet. First Dieron—and man, did we hold out there for QUITE the distance, even pulling our beloved Heir out of harm’s way, thanks to the yonninsu. It doesn’t matter to the DCMS that the Word is just HAMMERING our prefecture capitals? At all? Where’s our vaunted navy we were told we needed to protect us? Why didn’t our multi-trillion-bill defense system save Luthien from the dark? (And yeah, I still argue it’s under Blakist rule, despite the Voice’s propagandist tripe.)

So now, to add INSULT to our dishonorable injury, the malfing NOVA CATS have to rescue us? What kind of crudstunk plan is that? We don’t need to feed the Clanners’ ego any more than we have to. Bad enough they’ve absorbed most of our industry in the Irece Prefecture and brainwashed our people. Now they’re flying around in their oh-so-special WarShips, saving our DCMS boys from tripping over Blakist bodies.

Buddha save us, how embarrassing! Saved from honor by a damned honorless Clan.

You are going to run out of room on your unit colours for all the kill markers you will have of Shadow Division commanders. ;)
I wish I could get a good grip on reality, then I would choke it.

Heh, yeah, it didn't occur to me until I re-read this comment just now, but the Dancers have now bagged four WoB divisional commanders, including three Shadow Division Precentors (Sabnock, Astaroth and Arioch). I wonder how much longer that list will be by the time the Jihad's over...

EDIT: Just discovered I was wrong; technically, Astaroth was not a division commander but a battalion commander. Also, Sabnock was shot out of his 'Mech but wasn't killed.

Just look on the bright side, think of all the fun you'll have killing them. ;)

Okay, I'm having a really hard time deciding the next scenario for the Dancers; per Total Chaos, my options are as follows:

Dante's Daydream -- Fighting against twice my BV in elite Manei Domini from the 52nd Shadow on Gibson; will probably be a total slaughter of whomever I send

Tunnel Rats/Light Machine -- Retrieving a Buda Weapons researcher in the middle of the war for Luthien; the main problem here is that you have to work for either the Word of Blake or the Black Dragons, neither of whom I could see the Dancers plausibly working for at this point

Roman Candle -- Fighting against IV Legio on Trasjkis; the problem with this one is that it's a Mr. Askai contract, and I just feel like the Dancers have been burned by him a few too many times for it to be plausible for them to take another contract from him

Really could use some feedback from y'all on this.

you could alter the Luthien scenario, they find out the word is going after this guy and have to get to him first

I second this suggestion. The Word wants this guy; that should be motivation enough to get him out of there - even without pay. But then, no employer also means full salvage!
