I was having a discussion regarding the Atlas II with an acquaintance, and during that conversation, I brought up (what I thought) was the first mention of the Atlas II, waaaaay back in the Star League sourcebook from 1988.

Well...after looking through the SL sourcebook last night...I can't find a mention of it.  I seem to recall that the Wolverine II was also mentioned in the same spot, and I believe that it might have been a short fiction piece in one of the older sourcebooks, but now I am drawing a complete blank.  Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I realize that the Atlas II was not statted out until TRO3075; the reference that I am looking for is much older than that.  By the same token, it's not OTP: Widowmaker Absorption that I am thinking about, either.

So, basically, I am summoning Roosterboy and any other longtime players who might be able to shed some light on this one.

Thanks in advance!

Earliest that I'M aware of personally was the odd reference to one in the Jade Falcon Sourcebook- if there's an earlier mention I'm not aware of it (which doesn't mean it isn't out there, of course).

I had forgotten about that one, I will check it out and see if that's what I was thinking about, thanks Hellbie!

No sweat! I don't have the page number from the office (I really should keep a copy handy here), but as I recall it's in the first couple of pages of the TO&E section of the book- I'm tempted to say it's in the Keshik section? I know when I was a kid reading that I saw that, as well as the references to the Black Lanner and Turkina, and wondered what magic was going on with those designs. The answer to the latter two was nice to finally see a few years later (not a Lanner fan still, but the Turkina was a joy to behold!). The Atlas II... that took a while longer to get answers for.  ;)

I think those very same thoughts bounced around in my skull at the time; those references always had me looking forward to the next book(s) coming out.
Appreciate the assist!

It's in a sidebar, iirc, which might make it a bit tougher to find.

Thanks for the heads up, Kit!  Will keep that in mind when I scour the book with a more focused eye this evening.

While it is a side bar, its a full page one.
The quote Hammer gave is on the left column, fourth paragraph.

What's weird, is in the 20-some years I've had that book, the II indicators never caught my eye. And I know I've read that sidebar numerous times.

The AS7-RS is statted out in RS:3039, but that there is a reference to a variant with 2 large lasers in TRO 3025 Revised, and presumably the original TRO 3025.

It's not a reference to "Atlas II," but it describing an Atlas that sounds a lot like an Atlas II.  TRO 3025 came out in 1986, and the revised version in 1996.

the Tukayyid scenario book included the Atlas II as one of the random role mechs for the clans in the force building section.

Wasn't that the Atlas-C?

Pg 81 - Kerensky's Flight.

"Henson spent the next half hour assisting the Techs as they powered up a Wolverine II and an Atlas II."
And the battle is depicted on the cover of FM: SLDF
