Death From Above determine to hit number
« on: 10 October 2017, 06:02:20 »
Hello,

I learned to play AS at Gencon '15 and then played again this past August.

I attempted to demo with a few in my club this week from what I remembered and both my rule books...

I've discovered I have the '13 rules and companion. Most of the simplified rules I remembered were from the errata (I didn't even know that at the time)...

All went smoothly until charges with DFA...problematic if trying to use the 13 rulebook and no errata...

Ok..so damage I've pretty well nailed at this point...

I'm actually still really cloudy on determining to hit, I've already searched the board here, and all the rest of ther internet...I'm sure I missed and explanation somewhere...but I'm lost with the modifiers and changes in the charts etc.

How do you calculate the to hit number for charges and DFA?

Thanks!

Base requirements;
- Target can only have one special attack (charge or DFA).
- Attacker must end in base contact with the target and can only be declared on a target that has already completed its movement for the round.

To-hit is the attackers skill + special attack modifier + any other modifiers (targets movement, terrain etc)

To-hit = Attacker Skill + 1 or 3 (Charge or DFA) + Other modifiers.

Tables should still be correct in the '13 book IIRC. If not there is the quick start rule book that has one too.

The +3 for a DFA includes the modifier for jumping.  For an average pilot against an average target, you'll typically end up with:

4 (skill) + 3 (DFA difficulty) + 0 (range) + 2 (target TMM) = 9

Changing skills and target TMMs changes the number up or down.

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

Thanks everyone. The TMM with the +3 DFA in addition to
The 2013 and 2015 massive changes for charging
Pretty confusing at the start.

Thanks though. This clears it up and I now have the 2015 book plus errata

I really appreciate the help!
