Okay. I have a question. The Empire was supposed to be a near direct rip-off of Star Wars, so when I see the T-Fighter and X-Wing, I see the star wars versions and not the Star League fighter silhouettes that were legally obligated to be in the document.
So, is there a reason you're calling this 'the Tribe'? Are you also riffing some other IP? and if so, can you specify, because I'm not as broadly learned in all the potential sci-fi options available. I see Tribes, and I can't help thinking of the post Cybrid Wars game of the same name.
Or, are you referencing more of a BattleStar Galactica feel? I could see drone operating systems put into the large fleet of T-Fighters with Base Control Vessels guiding whole swarms of the things.
I am glad to see someone interested in this, welcome!
With the name The Tribe, I wasn't referencing any one thing, more like a conglomeration of things, including the battle star galactica. A big part of what I was referencing a lot of post apocalyptic fiction in which humanity ends up in a tribal state. For these guys, being cut off from the rest of the universe, it is basically post-apocalypse, their world, as they knew it, is gone and they are a tribe in the changed landscape of their universe, trying to survive.
Eventually I'll touch on the other areas in the Nebula. They started with the Star Empire area because of the technological differences, that allow them to dominate, while at the same time acquire the massive manufacturing capability that will then let them spread to the rest of the nebula. The book mentioned staggering quantities of capital ships, and with the poor quality of the weapons used in that region, they were a juicy target. They did it more through a coup than a military conquest too. More of a decapitating the head, and his fleet, and tell the rest to get in line, with a lure of making all their tech better. As the People's rebellion saw the improved quality of life, and lack of genocide under the new regime, they were not difficult to bring into the new fold.
Something it might interest you to note, In this region of space, I actually use the system map from Serenity/Firefly and added the planets mentioned in the book to that system. It gives me a lot of already existing material to work with (even if it laughs at physics).
In addition to eventuially expending into the rest of the material in Nebula California's book, I do plan on adding in other IPs, including Iron Sky's Nazis, the lost Colonies fleeing from Cylons, serenity/firefly material, Anne Mckaffery's Pern, Halo, and more. The Nebula California is not fully explored, and it has plenty of room for adding in almost anything I want.
The only two IP's I have definite plans to not include at all is Warhammer (fantasy or 40k) and Star Trek, which I already have placed in other areas of the galaxy, or other alternate universe's.
I do plan on doing separate threads for each IP though, so that no one has to sort through IPs they aren't interested in for stats to the ones they are after.
Secondly, since you're messing with the empire aspect, I do have a request can you develop a T-Bomber?
I am actually ahead of you, in the Terror Fighter post, the third one, 'Terror Bomber' is my inspired-by of the TIE Bomber. Note however, that this is first generation StarEmpire-to-TheTribe conversions. The Tribe, being from the Inner Sphere, knows they aren't that great of machines, and is going to slowly phase the Star Empire fighter pilots into actually decent machines. So expect later, more dangerous-in-battletech versions to come eventually. Also if you have any requests for what to make, or even change, I am willing.
In the Terror Bomber, the idea is to use a missile that can hit for capital damage, while still being a single missile per launcher that the Star Empire pilots are used to, kind of a little bit of comfort zone while they adjust tot he new tech. At the end, I had the space so I also added a space mine launcher, because I love having a fighter around that can deploy those, and I thought it fit with the anti-shipping theme of the TIE Bomber. The things really need more armor though. Also, I couldn't remember if TIE Bombers had shields or not, so I just didn't bother adding any to the Terror Bomber. I am planning that later generations will have shields.
