Overview:
After ascending to power Caesar Julius O'Reilley implemented a Battle Armor program to be developed by the Engineering Department at the Collegium Bellorum under the watchful eyes of State Security Forces. The research team was having very limited success until help was received from an unexpected source. Dr. Grieg Grossman received the design specification for the standard Inner Sphere Chassis and the myomer configurations from an unidentified source in his inter-departmental mail.
To date, Hegemony State Security has been unable to determine the source of the information. However, our operatives on Alphard have traced the source to a suspected Word of Blake operative - J.C.
With this newfound information, Dr. Grossman and his team were able to make great strides in their development program and within two months had fabricated their first three prototypes.
Equipped with a standard infantry support laser on the right arm as its only weapon, the Hastati is not a very powerful battlefield weapon, though it is a step up from the common infantry soldier. Due to the lack of OmniMechs in the Periphery, a new system for transporting the suits into combat had to be developed. These magnetic claws allow the suits to be transported via BattleMech, APC or VTOL. The magnetic claws are also useful in combat, allowing the suits to swarm Battlemechs and vehicles..
