This is an Intelligence Report from my AU shortly after Victor Steiner-Davion becomes the new First Lord. links for the AU are in my signature.

STAR LEAGUE DEFENCE FORCE INTELLIGENCE REPORT

This message has been sent with the strictest confidence and must not be shared with anyone who has not been cleared for level GREEN FOUR grade Intelligence.

State of Inner Sphere and Near Periphery Clans

Date: 14th March 3108

To: First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion
Star League Defence Force, Unity City, Terra

From: General Caradoc Trevena
Star League Military Command Headquarters, Unity City Terra

Sire,

Firstly I would like to thank you for agreeing to your son’s decision to appoint you in his stead as the newest First Lord of the Star League Defence Force.  I understand that you initially were quite hostile to the idea but trust me when I say that it was a decision that showed First Prince Burton Davion is wise beyond his years and that knowing you are ready to guide the Star League through this troubled time.

Although I am sure you have stayed up to date with the goings on in the Inner Sphere I decided to draft this report on the threat that this Star League Defence Force was formed to combat your old foes - The Clans.

The years have good for the remaining Clans despite their numbers dwindling to nine active Clans they have attacked and conquered worlds that in the 3050's we would have never expected them to reach.  Now the Clans combined control more worlds than any of the individual Succession States, the Clans appear to be more united than ever and have a Clan Council on Tukayyid which appears to wield far more control than the Star League Council has ever held.

Below is a report on each Clan and the latest intelligence we have on their political and military strengths.  I am also drafting an Intelligence Report on the Clan’s other “ace” which is their disproportionately strong naval forces when you consider the size of their territory compared to the Inner Sphere.

Note: I refer to the Clans by both their official national names and the Clans that formed them because both names are accurate despite what these states would like you to believe.

Wolf Empire (Clan Wolf)
Capital:
Sheridan

Leader: Khan Amina Kerensky b. 3075 (33 years in 3108)

Strength: 10 Galaxies (47 Clusters and 3 Keshiks)

The Wolf Empire or the Crusader Wolves, as they were once referred to, are by all intensive purposes Founder Nicholas Kerensky’s vision exemplified of fighting without worry and taking risks.  When Clan Wolf uprooted itself from the Clan Occupation Zones relocating to the disjointed Free Worlds League they carved out an Empire more rapidly than anyone could have expected capturing Stewart and perhaps more importantly Tamarind and its shipyards.

The Wolves are the only Clan so far that has reached the Star League Protectorate and their Touman while small is battle hardened and well equipped.  The Wolves have intentionally released several worlds back to Houses Steiner and Marik shortening their supply lines while remaining in control their primary holdings without challenge.

The major threat to the Clan is their position isolated from the other Clans they are sandwiched between Steiner, Marik and us.  If we were to apply enough pressure perhaps we could blunt their claws permanently.

Clan Jade Falcon

Capital:
Sudeten/Incaukalns

Leader: Khan Jana Pryde b. 3077 (31 years in 3108)

Strength: 8 Galaxies (40 Clusters)

The Falcons do not pretend to be anything but what they are one of the most brutal and effective Clans remaining since the fall of Clan Smoke Jaguar.  The Falcons recent successes taking the meat grinder of Incukalns and the Kell family home of Arc Royal shattered the Inner Sphere belief that they could be contained in their Occupation Zone.

While the Jade Falcons sacrificed much of their Touman and their Occupation Zone to capture these two systems the Falcon victory was one of the most symbolic of recent times.  And it has left them with a generally well equipped and experienced military Touman.

To fill gaps in her Clan’s Touman Khan Jana Pryde has taken inspiration from the great Marthe Pryde and graduated an entire generation of cadets ahead of schedule.  Unlike the Federated Suns NAIS or the Draconis Combine’s Sun Zhang units these Jade Eyrie units a little more than child soldiers who have been promised places in premier Jade Falcon units should they succeed. (Some are as old as 13 years old! This was something that humanity left in Terra’s past until the Falcons returned it to fashion.  CT)  Due to this incentive these units are likely to be the most loyal and most likely to stand and fight against all odds of the entire Falcon Touman. This extreme action has allowed Khan Pryde to bolster her military forces and give a false impression that their Touman has far more depth than it actually has. The three deactivated galaxies on their TO&E shows how much the Falcons are still hurting.

A concentrated attack on Incukalns and Arc Royal could break some of the Jade Falcon units in one attack – but it would likely take the entire SLDF and LCAF to pull it off. (It doesn’t help that Incukalns is rumoured to be home to an ancient Star League-era ground based SDS which the Falcons have brought back online CT)

Clan Hell’s Horses

Capital:
Csestreg

Leader: Khan Teresia Cooper b. 3070 (38 years old in 3108)

Strength: 9 Galaxies (38 Clusters and 2 Keshiks)

The Horde.  While the Jade Falcons are perhaps the most dangerous and the Wolves are in the best position the Hell’s Horses have the spirit and drive to cause the most problems for in the immediate future.  The Horde is a concept born inside Clan Hell’s Horses known as the Mongol Doctrine a combat concept which originated on ancient Terra and is based around hitting an enemy fast and as hard as possible attacking from multiple directions and keeping on the move encircling an enemy target and crushing it with superior firepower.

While the Hell’s Horses have retained their duelling rules against other Clans they have completely abandoned them against the Inner Sphere and use concentrated fire as often as they can to subdue enemy units rapidly and move onto their next target.

The Hell’s Horses greatest weakness may be their inability to control their growing number of worlds.  Their units are designed for speed and firepower but not garrison duty.  In the long term their Occupation Zone population could cause greater problems for them than anything else.  Unfortunately the long term may not save the Lyran Commonwealth having to defend their capital Arcturus from attack from the Horde.

Clan Coyote

Capital:
Weingarten

Leader: Khan Karl Heller, b 3060 (48 years old in 3108)

Strength: 8 Galaxies (36 Clusters and 3 Command Keshiks)

The Trickster has many lives.  The Coyotes survived the troubles in the Clan Homeworlds because of a deal they did with the Wolves which eventually saw them take control over the original Wolf Occupation Zone.  In the years since the Coyotes have concentrated in rebuilding their Touman embracing the use of ProtoMechs like the Horses and Ravens to bolster their numbers they have fought trials against the other Clans to keep their experienced units level with the other Clans but until recently they have avoided combat with the Inner Sphere.

Perhaps however this trickster is running out of lives as there are rumours that suggest the Coyotes are facing fighting within their Occupation Zone.  It is unknown if this is a popular rebellion or something from within the Clan itself.  Initial reports suggested that the Coyotes were the only Clan involved in this fighting but a fragmented HPG transmission from Clan Nova Cat suggested that they were mobilizing to join the battle.

Rasalhague Dominion (Clan Ghost Bear)

Capital:
Alshian

Leader: Khan Ragnar Magnesson b. 3036 (72 years old in 3108)

Strength: 13 Galaxies (67 Clusters and 5 Keshiks)

The sleeping Bear.  For years Clan Ghost Bear has slept within its Rasalhague Dominion.  Unlike the other Clans it has refrained from incursions into the Inner Sphere instead it has built the strongest military, the strongest economy and most united nation of all of the Clans.  (Essentially what I am saying is that if anyone wakes up the Ghost Bear, and the Bear finds its focus, it will be a monumental task to stop this monster CT)

The Bears greatest strength is perhaps also its weakness.  The Bear has become more like the Inner Sphere states than any of the Clans and it is currently quite comfortable in its place within the Inner Sphere.  The Bears will be slow to mobilize if attacked and their attacks while powerful will likely be slow and limited for if they attack en masse like the Wolves of Falcons they would threaten the stability of their Dominion. (The Bears are a Clan because the other Clans want to trade with them and because they are scheisse scared of them, sire.  Otherwise treat the Bears like you would House Steiner or Kurita.  The Dominion knows it needs to protect its back in any offensive which controls them. CT)

Clan Sea Fox

Capital:
Twycross

Leader: Khan Evangeline Clarke b 3068 (40 years old in 3108)

Strength: 8 Khanates (39 Clusters)

The Merchants (Gypsies CT) The Sea Foxes do not have Galaxies they have Khanates with warriors loyal to their Khanate first and to the Clan a distant second.   The Sea Foxes are not a threat to the Inner Sphere in their current condition they are traders who like the occasional fight.  The Clan is spread across the Inner Sphere and periphery and will be ineffectual in any campaign beyond their core worlds within the Clan Occupation Zones.  (In many ways the Sea Fox Clan is the weakest due to their lack of coordination between the Khanates and their spread out territories. CT) Their current preoccupation with the constant evolution of their ArcShips has kept the Sea Foxes out of trouble as they constantly upgrade and defend these moving colonies.

The Sea Foxes are not an enemy to the Inner Sphere instead they are a source of technology and supplies.  The SLDF have been able to maintain good relations with the Sea Fox Clan which has allowed many of our elite units to be equipped with advanced technology.

Nova Cat’s Den (Clan Nova Cat)

Capital:
New Barcella

Leader: Khan Canin Rosse b. 3038 (70 years old in 3108)

Strength: 11 Galaxies (52 Clusters, 5 Keshiks)

The quiet one.  (Sorry, sire, but I can’t describe them any other way CT) the Nova Cats border with the Federated Suns has been at virtual peace since the remaining Filtvelt Coalition worlds were absorbed by the Suns until recently they have not ventured out of their Den instead they have been reorganising and upgrading their entire Touman.

The Nova Cat’s greatest strengths are that unlike the other Clans who have been launching military campaigns and defending against counter-attacks the Nova Cats have been happy to remain in the Periphery out of the way.  This has allowed them to produce more OmniMechs/Vehicles and Aerospace Fighters than any other Clan to date with Omni type units appearing more frequently in every Galaxy.  On paper the Nova Cats have the second strongest Touman behind the Bears but their low experience level likely drops them behind the Wolves and Falcons in overall strength.

In an effort to raise their experience levels the Nova Cats launched a campaign against the Draconis Combine in 3107 taking several Periphery worlds in conjunction with Clan Snow Raven.  The Nova Cats are continuing to fight against the Combine and SLDF forces even after the Ravens have sued for peace.  It appears that this conflict has caused an internal issue between Khan Rosse and his saKhan Katrine Devalis so far there have been no challenges but analysts believe it is only a matter of time.

Other than their general lack of experience fighting campaign type warfare the Nova Cats spread out territory may cause them issues in the long term although they could simply use deep periphery shipping routes and avoid any risks of raiders.  Our most recent intelligence suggests that Clan Nova Cat are mobilizing their Watch forces to conduct operations inside the Coyote Occupation Zone – why this is happening is currently unknown but the Nova Cats are known to have one of the biggest Watch organisations in the Clans.  Should the Nova Cats mobilize their forces against the under defended back of the Federated Suns they could make significant inroads into the Crucis March before the Federated Suns could react.  (Building a significant staging base in the Crucis March could stop the Nova Cats dead.  Although it could just give the Clan a target TC)

Raven Alliance (Clan Snow Raven)

Capital:
Alpheratz/Dante

Leader: Khan Vir Sukhanov b. 3080 (28 years old in 3108)

Strength: 8 Galaxies (33 Clusters and 1 Keshik)

After recent Raven adventurism against the Draconis Combine many in the Inner Sphere, specifically in the Federated Suns, have taken more notice of the Clan.  Previously few people regarded them as little more than refugees with a WarShip fetish.  The 3107 fighting against the Draconis Combine has changed this perception now many see that the Snow Ravens are exerting far more control over the Alliance than previously thought.

Despite being defeated by the Draconis Combine and SLDF the Snow Raven incursion into the Draconis Combine has served its purpose now the Inner Sphere are more wary around the Ravens, the Ravens themselves are aware of the their neighbours capabilities and their troops are more skilled.  So while the Ravens lost this conflict the next battle is likely to turn the opposite way.  Since the end of the hostilities with the Draconis Combine the Ravens have begun a crash build program improving the weapons available to their nation, including the introduction of a new OmniMech the Craven, and they have begun reorganizing the Outworlds Alliance military to fight more like their own using Clan ranks and organisation.

The Ravens generally rely on their naval units to secure the airspace over their target and threaten naval bombardment stopping an enemy from concentrating their forces and supplying their troops.  The Draconis Combine successfully countered this strategy and refused to fight on Raven terms leading to reversals in Snow Raven strategy.  In future battles with the Ravens we must keep their naval forces contained so our forces can keep them contained inside the Raven Alliance’s territory.  (Fortunately the Draconis Combine and Federated Suns have significant naval resources of their own TC)

Rim Collection (Clan Fire Mandrill)

Capital:
All Dawn/Gillfillian’s Gold

Leader: Natasha Faraday b. 3078 (30 years old in 3108)

Strength: 8 Galaxies (35 with three Keshiks)

The other quiet one.  The similarities between the Nova Cats and Clan Fire Mandrill are as stark as the differences between them.  Both Clans are based in the periphery and both have focused on dealing with local threats instead of involving themselves in wider conflicts.  The Nova Cats are where they are because of a plan the Clan has followed to the letter while the Fire Mandrills arrived in the Rim Collection through desperation after being caste out of the Clan Homeworlds (a conflict we still don’t have all the information on CT) while the Mandrills initially appeared to be happy to take a back seat in the Rim Collection they have recently taken far more control over the small nation.

At the Lyran’s back the Fire Mandrills have successfully built eight strong galaxies putting them on par with the Snow Ravens, Sea Foxes and making them stronger than the Coyotes and at present the Falcons.  With a live fire opponent in Stone Spirits to keep their experience levels up the Mandrills maintain an uneasy peace with the Lyran Commonwealth.  Each of their Galaxies is split into two Combat Teams giving them great flexibility in combat with one of two Clusters able to hold an opponent where the Mandrills want them and then the other flanks.

The Fire Mandrill strength in battle is their use of aerospace fighters either from within their Clusters or from their WarShips.  To break the Fire Mandrills you must bring as many aerospace fighters to the battle as you can and use them to overwhelm the Mandrill aerospace units without these the Clan will struggle to win any battle.  (In other words the Lyrans need to stop thinking about building Battleships and start building carriers CT).

I really like this intel report!  Is there going to be one referring to the Inner Sphere's strengths and weaknesses?

There's going to be a part two with naval assets featured

I haven't decided on the Inner Sphere generally the Succession States haven't changed a huge amount despite the changes this AU has already faced

Great update Dragon Cat, I've been curious about how things kind of stand for a while now.  O0

As for the naval stuff, patience.  >:D  It's pretty easy to get a snapshot of each faction's naval power and capabilities simply by looking at the yearly spreadsheet updates, since they tell us exactly what is in play and, roughly, where it's located.

Interesting, but shouldn't Victor be 'Commanding General' rather than 'First Lord'?

Also, the word choice is a bit odd for a supposedly official document: it's pretty flowery.

An interesting universe where the Jihad never happened?

Nope. Burton abdicated his First Lordship in favor of his father about 3 or 4 updates ago.

Sorry, haven't read the others. I was just going by the way Doc called Victor 'First Lord of the Star League Defence Force.' Normally he would either be the commander of the SLDF or the First Lord of the Star League: that's what was tripping me up.

Really nice update Dragon Cat :) I love the confusion over whats going on in the Coyotes space as well as not knowing quite what to make of the Horses, seeing as *REDACTED SPOILERS*.  (DC knows what i'm going on about :p ).  Also the whole "Yeah..the Dominion is a successor state in all but name..." acknowledgement is good :)  Any news on the strength of the forces guarding Tukkayid?

An interesting universe where the Jihad never happened?

It's "flowery" intentional because Caradoc Trevena and Victor have known each other for a long time and Caradoc had not been Victor's subject for decades but he still respects him

The way the First Lord position works in the AU is that each nation takes turns.  As Sharpnel noted Burton Davion abdicated and allowed his retired father to take the position because he was trying to get the other nations to unite behind the League and Victor is someone they all know and respect.  He is someone that dedicated his life to the War against the Clans and while the Federated Suns did well he's also seen right by others

Generally the term First Lord is a political headpiece position with the Commanding General commanding the troops but since this Star League isn't in charge of its member states and only the military I call it First Lord of the SLDF

And yes no Jihad but lots of little wars

Marauder I considered including the Clan council forces in this update but so far they haven't been used against the Inner Sphere and until recently Tukayyid was a closed system.  I think I'll leave out the Councils forces and do a supplementary report for them

Maybe if I do more of these I'll put a primer in front of the report that sets the universe up since there are quite a bit of assumptions that everyone knows what else is going on in the universe...

Thanks but what I'm thinking is everyone should be able to enjoy it not just fans of my main fiction thread so if I did this at the start it might help?

In the year 3108 the Second Star League Defence Force has stood for fifty years with the various leaders of the Inner Sphere taking their turn to lead the Council.  This Star League Council tries to unite the Inner Sphere against the ever present threat of the Clans, promote trade and champion the peaceful ideals of the first Star League without enforcing them on the member states.

During this time only the Capellan Confederation has chosen to leave the Star League Council.

At the heart of the Inner Sphere a Protectorate has risen around Terra and is under the authority of Terra and independent of the Succession States with the Star League Defence Force for its protection.

In 3107 the Federated Suns was elected to lead the Star League Council but First Prince Burton Davion decided that he was not the man to lead the Star League instead he turned to his retired father, a man respected throughout the Inner Sphere and Periphery, Victor Steiner-Davion to become the new First Lord.

Now Victor faces an Inner Sphere which is threatened from internal and external trouble which could shatter the peace the Star League was formed to create.

A very good update on the clans.
You called the Wolf Empire the weakest of the toumans but with 10 galaxies I thought that makes them 3rd.

Where?  I called them "small" because they are smaller than they were before they moved to the Empire's location but they are still pretty strong.

It should be noted with number of Galaxies and Clusters doesn't tell the whole story some clusters are bigger than others

You know that it seem much worse for Victor then I thought....   Poor Sucker   O0

Second part of the analysis of the Clans written by Vition2 and then a foreword added by me

My Prince,

In conjunction with General Caradoc Trevena I have detailed a report on the naval capabilities of the Clans located in the Inner Sphere and Periphery.  During my time as naval analysis of the Federated Suns Navy I watched our rivals and advised on the construction of a navy that could oppose any opponent.

Since transferring to the Star League Defence Force I have come to the conclusion that while the Clans are behind the Inner Sphere in development they are catching up with us at a frightening pace.  Across the Clans newly constructed designs are filling out their navies with new designs being debuted like never before while many of their “original” Star League-era ships are now undergoing massive refurbishments with anti-missile systems, screen launchers and Mk II Lithium Fusion Batteries being added to their core designs.  Although many of these designs are still under-armoured, under-armed and ill equipped to engage the newer Inner Sphere and Clan designs they are stronger than traditional designs.

Prince Victor, Caradoc Trevena and I have considered creating a similar analysis of the Inner Sphere states, however, should we delve into the Inner Sphere strength we will only be single steps away from considering them enemies.  While I have dedicated myself to the Star League Defence Force and its future you have only accepted this position temporarily and asking you to order the creation of a document that could be used against your own family is something that neither I nor Caradoc Trevena is willing to do.

Colonel Jessica Hammond

Clan Coyote
Capital:  Weingarten
Leader:  Khan Karl Heller, b. 3060 (48 years in 3108)
Strength:  8 WarShips (6 combat ships, 2 support ships, 0 yard ships)

Of all the clans, the Coyote fleet is among the smallest.  In total, it consists of a mere eight WarShips, two of which are primarily support ships.  The biggest problem for growing the fleet is a lack of access to their own shipyards, leaving them at the mercy of the makings of other clans.  As of yet this has worked out quite well, with them managing to win one of the newly produced York-class Destroyer/carriers from the Tukayyid yards, and a combination of their assistance in the design and manufacture of the Mississippi-class Battleship netted them one of their own.  Lastly, they recently traded an unneeded Potemkin-class Troop Cruiser for a pair of ships from the Ravens, a Constellation-class frigate and a Drake-class Corvette.  This has allowed their fleet to, effectively, double the size of their fleet and more than triple its displacement.

The composition of the fleet leaves little to be desired, excepting only the wish for the Liberator-class cruiser to be modernized.  The battleship give the combined fleet a solid core, a cruiser provides additional firepower, while the destroyers, frigate, and corvette provide adequate escort services.  The real downside to the Coyote fleet is a lack of depth, their limited numbers means any losses are a significant portion of their fleet.

With regards to future fleet capacity, they are likely very close to their limit on both ship numbers and ship quality without spending the resources to build or otherwise secure maintenance slips, they can only rely on trialling and other clans’ goodwill for a short time longer, at least without starting to make significant concessions.  Some options they have include requisitioning the construction of a modified HH-1 from the Sea Foxes or Ravens, or a Legacy from the Bears, or a more permanent solution in the construction of a repair/refit facility over Tamar or Weingarten.  Once something like that is in place a doubling or tripling of their fleet may be possible.

Rim Collection (Clan Fire Mandrill)
Capital:  All Dawn/Gillfillian’s Gold
Leader:  Natasha Faraday, b. 3078 (30 years in 3108)
Strength: 7 WarShips (6 combat ships, 0 support ships, 1 yard ship)

While the smallest clan fleet by mass, the leaps and bounds by which they have been growing is staggering.  This fleet manages to clock in at a mere seven ships, all but one are fighting ships.  Prior to the latter part of last year, the Mandrills had to rely entirely on either their diminutive Fox III repair ship to keep up routine maintenance or rely on outside assistance.  Though their fleet was small, this was causing pressure on their routine maintenance duties, leaving ships much closer to required maintenance than most navies would prefer, and usually minor malfunctions in equipment were frequent.  The recent acquiring of the damaged JumpShip yards of Schuyler and shipping off their New Syrtis-class carrier to be refit by the Foxes dramatically decreases this pressure.  And while the JumpShip yards are unlikely to be brought fully online for roughly another year, once this is done the economy of the Rim Collection will receive a massive boost.

The Mandrills make heavy use of both carrier WarShips and carrier DropShips, and they also have significant reserves of Titans and Titan monitors.  But they lack a strong front line combatant, something that would be able to take blows and land solid hits back on their opponent. The death of this fleet is a fast and hard hitting WarShip, something that can limit the effectiveness of the Mandrill aerospace fighters, while being able to out manoeuvre the carriers and bring bigger guns to bear on them.

At the moment, the Mandrill fleet looks to be stagnant for quite a while yet.  While within a couple of years the activity from the newly acquired JumpShip yards ought to boost the small realm’s economy significantly.  With this boost, it is possible that inside of another ten years they could be producing WarShips of their own.

Clan Hell’s Horses
Capital:  Czestreg
Leader:  Khan Teresia Cooper, b. 3070
Strength: 16 WarShips (12 combat ships, 1 support ship, 3 yard ships)

Second possibly only to the Sea Foxes in their mobility, the Hell’s Horses fleet is much more of a support apparatus for their ground troops than a combat fleet, though that appears to be in the midst of changing.  With three HH-1 Forge-class yard ships, they can keep most of their WarShips in the field for nearly an indefinite period of time - limited only by the capability of procuring base materials.  Early this year they lost a significant portion of their fleet with the Indafatigables’ debut in combat, but more recently has been seen to have acquired one of the Clans’ new Arbitration-class battleships, and while it has not been seen in combat, as of yet, it could prove to be a match for even a pair of Indefatigables.

The introduction of the Arbitration-class battleship to their fleet appears to have caused reorganization, where one it functioned primarily as individual units with ad hoc pairings, the Arbitration appears to how have a permanent escort, creating a powerful but small group of vessels.  The rest of the fleet seems to continue to operate singly or in pairs, though mostly of older designs left over from the SLDF fleet; they still represent a significant threat to undefended worlds.

The future appears to be an unknown for the Hell’s Horses, if they can procure an additional battleship or two they may become a truly serious threat.  As for their home-grown designs, both the Marathon and Halcyon are much more oriented towards supporting ground troops, each of which can orbitally drop a cluster’s worth of troops.  If they continue to work on increasing the efficacy of their fleet, we foresee these designs being modified to a more naval-oriented alignment.

Clan Jade Falcon
Capital:  Sudeten/Incukalns
Leader:  Khan Jana Pryde, b. 3077 (31 years in 3108)
Strength: 17 WarShips (17 combat ships, 0 support ships, 0 yard ships)

The Falcons may not have the largest WarShip fleet among the clans, but they very well have the most experience, and the composition of the Falcon fleet is a scary proposition considering its neighbours.  Unlike most clans, which have focused more on producing or acquiring numbers to support and maintain their territories, the Falcons have instead focused on building a fleet built to destroy and conquer their enemies.  They currently have a total of four battleships, comprising nearly a full 25% of their fleet, supported by pair of very efficient large cruiser classes in their Jade Lion and Patriot types.  Round out the fleet is a sextet of Peregrines to support the movement of troops and supplies from the rear to the front.  Notably, the Falcons have recently traded away to both the Horses and Foxes any ships which do not serve a direct role in their Touman.

The large number of battleships in the fleet allows the Falcons to heavily use them on offense; the downside to this is that their overall numbers are smaller than the typical fleet, leaving them with the likelihood of individual WarShips being damaged beyond effectiveness and needing to be pulled off the line for extended periods.  The counter to this is that their endurance and size rarely causes them to be outright destroyed.  The fewer cruisers and battle cruisers allow them to project their power out of the direct sight of the battleships or allow them to reinforce their battleships without doubling up on the battleships.  The Peregrines have rarely been seen near the front, and seem to be one of the primary transport and escort assets of the Falcons.

Given the suspected size of the Falcon’s Dark Nebula yards, and the nearly two years of relative peace - though the Falcons did suffer occasional losses to the other clans - the possibility of another nearly half dozen WarShips entering their service in the next few months is quite high.  SLI believes another Mississippi may be getting close, while a pair of Patriots have likely already left the slips - that we haven’t seen them yet is concerning as it indicates Intelligence may be wrong.  Given the aggressiveness the Falcons have been pursuing we suspect they’ve, at least temporarily, abandoned their corvette program.  Whatever they have been working on, we will soon find out once the truce ends.

Clan Nova Cat
Capital:  New Barcella
Leader:  Khan Canin Rosse, b. 3038 (70 years in 3108)
Strength: 39 WarShips (28 combat ships, 9 support ships, 2 yard ship)

With only seven WarShips above or below the mass of a cruiser or battle cruiser, the Nova Cat fleet is the epitome of a cruiser navy.  In addition to this, very little of the fleet are built to the specifications of the First SLDF, giving the Nova Cats greater offensive power than their tonnage would typically suggest.  The downside to this is that many of the classes they’ve built or modified were created shortly after their move to the Den, and some of them are beginning to show their age - rumours of an upgraded Anna Rosse battle cruiser notwithstanding.

While most of the WarShips are assigned to small squadrons, or stars, the reality of their deployment is most of them work on their own.  Speaking to the squadrons, many are built around a solid core of a pair of battle cruisers or other heavier WarShips, and include a Liger-class strike cruiser for aerospace support.  Were these to function as squadrons or small fleets they would be quite well rounded.  These squadrons greatest weakness is that they do not operate often enough together.

With a total of nine slips and a pair of yard ships, they certainly have the capability of maintaining and growing their fleet.  On the other hand, a significant portion of the fleet is located far from home and supply lines and are in danger of being defeated in detail against the combined might of the Combine and aiding SLDF formations.  The Den itself is very well positioned to defend itself from external threats.

Clan Sea Fox
Capital:  Twycross
Leader:  Khan Evangeline Clarke, b 3068 (40 years in 3108)
Strength: 38 WarShips (13 combat ships, 25 support ships, 0 yardships)

Due to the structure of the Sea Fox Touman, there isn’t a whole lot to say about the fleet of this clan.  They are spread too thinly to be able to use their WarShips in a true fleet action.  On the other hand, each of their khanates is self-sustaining and contains large manufacturing capabilities.  This means that most of their trading fleets include at least one Sea Fox-class ArcShip, a massive vessel which, while it doesn’t technically out mass a leviathan, the reality is that many of the permanently or semi-permanently attached DropShips frequently cause the ships to verge on the 3 million ton mark.  Escorting these is at least one and often two combat WarShips of various types; most of these tend towards older first SLDF classes, which allow them to function in two purposes - as a combat escort, and as an expansion to the manufacturing or refining processes of the fleet due to their cavernous cargo holds.

While the Fox’s Chainelane Isles shipyards are off-limits to unescorted outsiders, the Foxes not infrequently invite visitors from both the Spheroid states as well as the other Clans to view their facilities.  These facilities show the dichotomy with the Fox’s walking that line between following the letter of the Clan Grand Council’s guidelines and still producing things to sell to the Inner Sphere.  Many of the products here are built using Inner Sphere technology but in such a way as to easily be upgraded to clan specs.  The output from the shipyards themselves have tended towards very limited WarShip production, with most of these materials being used in the construction of more ArcShips, with only limited resources going towards the construction of new combat WarShip - often at the behest of another clan.  Their holdings at the Clipperton Yards are a different story, other than a small portion of it completely off-limits to those not of the clan, it is entirely devoted to Inner Sphere levels of technology, and is a focal point for their mercantilism in the rimward sectors of the Inner Sphere.

Wolf Empire (Clan Wolf)
Capital:  Sheridan
Leader:  Khan Amina Kerensky, b. 3075 (33 years in 3108)
Strength: 22 WarShips (16 combat ships, 7 support ships, 1 yardship)

Until very recently, the majority of the Clan Wolf fleet was full of ancient designs with relatively few modern WarShips.  The transport capacity of this fleet was such that their relocation to the current Wolf Empire was managed quickly and quietly.  With the launch of the Lola IV-class destroyers and the addition of two combat WarShips and an additional support ship via their merger with the Mountain Wolves has gone a long way in shoring up the efficacy of their fleet - not to mention a second McKenna-class battleship gives them an amount of offensive firepower to be very wary of, particularly as the Wolves lie right across the border.

Most Wolf ships work singly or in pairs, with the more occasional ad hoc larger grouping, but their significant number of Isegrim assault ships means that rarely are they ever truly alone.  The counter to that is the Wolf aerospace arm is surprisingly small, with the vast majority of said assets being assigned to ground forces, and relatively few berths among their fleet assets.  This means overwhelming them with aerospace forces is a distinct possibility.

With their current focus of constructing only a single type of WarShip, they are aligned to be able to boost the overall size of their fleet quickly over the next few years.  This will allow them to put their current fleet to better use, allowing Lola-IVs to provide a strong picketing force while freeing up their battle cruisers and battleships for more offensive use.  It is these we must expect to face when they decide to resume their offensive.

Rasalhague Dominion (Clan Ghost Bear)
Capital:  Alshain
Leader:  Khan Ragnar Magnusson, b. 3036 (72 years in 3108)
Strength: 18 WarShips (13 combat ships, 2 support ships, 3 yard ships)

Of all the clans, the Ghost Bear are the strangest with regards to their fleet orientation.  They have the most mature supply lines, and their fleet includes the massive Leviathan-class battleships.  But their overall fleet size is comparatively small, and they seem to allocate relatively few resources to the war fleet.  The recent introduction of a pair of Bergen-class destroyers shows that they are starting to reconsider that aspect, but it still seems to be slow going.  Of all the clans the Dominion makes the greatest use of assault-class DropShips, using them to fill in where other clans tend to use corvettes and having the manufacturing capability to produce them in numbers - it is very rare system that doesn’t have at least a star of these providing system escort duties and defense.

The Ghost Bear fleet revolves around their trio of Leviathans, and given the current construction of another pair of Bergen-class destroyers indicates that the Dominion is looking towards standardizing their fleet into individual units, much like the Ravens and Nova Cats have done.  If I were to hazard a guess, these fleets would have a Leviathan as their centrepiece combined with a Conqueror-class battle cruiser escort and a pair of Bergens rounding out the unit.  The only thing the Dominion fleet seems to lack, is access to a relatively cheap picket ship, something that could be used in some of their more far flung regions - this role is currently being filled in what seems to be a stop-gap measure by using assault DropShips such as Vanirs and Aesirs, which function perfectly well against pirates and small-time raids, but would quickly be overwhelmed by determined attackers.

Raven Alliance (Clan Snow Raven)
Capital:  Alpheratz/Dante
Leader:  Khan Vir Sukhanov, b. 3080 (28 years in 3108)
Strength: 34 WarShips (24 combat ships, 8 support ships, 2 yard ships)

Prior to the Raven-Cat-Dragon War, the Raven Alliance likely had both the largest and most effective combat fleet of all the clans.  Their missteps during the war lost them this status, and it seems that many crash programs have begun, many of which appear to revolve around their black navy.  Fitting for the clan focusing heavily on WarShip, their fleet is among the most diverse of the clans.  They have large numbers of support ships, including five of the massive Potemkin-class troop cruisers, and a pair of yard ships - including one of only two Newgrange-classes to survive to the present era.  Probably the largest difficulty the Raven fleet faces is that nearly half of their remaining combat ships were built using the fleet structure of the First SLDF, a paradigm that leaves many ships under gunned, under armoured, or both.

As one of only two clans to have enough WarShips to properly sub-divide their fleet, the Ravens make due with a reorganized five combat fleets and a sixth support fleet.  Most of these have either a battleship or a carrier as the focal point of each fleet, but the variety of different WarShips in the Raven fleet leaves none of these fleets standardized.

With the fleet assets the Ravens have, the apparent merging of the economies of the Alliance and Ravens, and the many crash programs their new Khan has begun will result in one of two possibilities regarding the Raven fleet.  Either the economy will grow exponentially - possibly rising near the heights of the Dominion - or, it will shatter the economy, with demand outstripping supply by such a margin that an economic crash the likes of which the Alliance hasn’t seen since the fall of the first Star League.  Recent evidence has come to light that the Alliance has constructed a new industrial hub deep inside their territory which has recently come online, including a new WarShip construction facility - it is telling to the secrecy of the Ravens that we are only now becoming aware of this.

Re: Star League Intelligence Report - State of Clans (AU with thanks)
I'll be honest here and say I really wanted to have this done around 2 months ago and was actually only a couple clans away from it then, but things got in the way and I got sidetracked.  So, apologies for it taking as long as it did and I hope you all enjoy it - though there aren't a lot of revelations here.

I'll note that based on the manufacturing data Dragon Cat gave us a couple weeks ago that the Clans as a whole have 39 warship capable construction slips (in 10 yards), though the Star League is likely pegging the number in the mid to upper 30s, the size of the Falcon's Dark Nebula yard and the new Raven yard may not be known - and, if that is the case the Dark Nebula yard is likely projected to be larger than the 3 slips it currently has, while the new Raven yard may not even be expected to construct warships.  Next up is the Fed Suns with 23 (4 yards), Combine with 20 (3 yards), Commonwealth with 14 (4 yards), League with 12 (3 yards), SLDF with 10 (1 yard), CapCon with 6 (2 yards), and Magistracy with 5 (1 yard).

Nice fleet update.
Looks like the Ravens really have to pull the finger out. O0
