Why are some things con exclusive? Maths.

1) Distributors usually only take things which exceed certain volumes. They won't often take 100 pins, or 500 dice.

2) For every $10 you pay in the game store,
- CGL see something like $3
- distributors see something like $3
- the game store sees something like $4

So if CGL can afford to make 300 pins for $4 each, and send them to the distributor, they may not recover production costs. And if they make 3000 pins for $2 each, they may not be confident that all 3000 will sell.

But if they make 300, which they can afford, and take them with them to Origins and Gencon, they basically make money. Plus, there's a long and honorable tradition of 'fluffy' con exclusive things for just about every game company.

(this excludes the usual situation where the publisher promises to have "8th Succession War" a month before GenCon, fails, and CGL pay through the nose to have a few dozen flown in at great expense so they can actually show copies ;) )

Or something like that.
* No, FASA wasn't big on errata - ColBosch
* The Housebook series is from the 80's and is the foundation of Btech, the 80's heart wrapped in heavy metal that beats to this day - Sigma
* To sum it up: FASAnomics: By Cthulhu, for Cthulhu - Moonsword
* Because Battletech is a conspiracy by Habsburg & Bourbon pretenders - MadCapellan
* The Hellbringer is cool, either way. It's not cool because it's bad, it's cool because it's bad with balls - Nightsky
* It was a glorious time for people who felt that we didn't have enough Marauder variants - HABeas2, re "Empires Aflame"

I only count 4 major releases last year, but the current perceived problem is not the actual number of releases but how they are spread throughout the year.

Interstellar Operations - released January 2016
First Succession War - released May 2016
Campaign Operations - released July 2016
Combat Manual: Kurita - released July 2016

If there hasn't been another major release I'm overlooking (and no, I'm not counting the BattleTech Manual, which technically hasn't been released yet), there hasn't been a major release in more than 11 months.  People were really really happy about the release schedule last July, having had 3 major products over three months to talk about.

So that comes back to the problem, it's not necessarily the numbers that cause some level of frustration but the inconsistency of releases.  If we could expect a release schedule of a major product roughly once every 4 or 6 months (3 or twice yearly), the complaints would likely be less - though missing a release would probably cause a massive uproar, even if its only delayed a week.  Fill that in with things like the Spotlight On series and Touring the Stars series (and perhaps something the size of the XTROs) and people will have less to worry about, the line will seem stronger and people will, generally, know what to expect.  The downside is, of course, keeping to that schedule, and possibly decreasing the quality of the product somewhat.
There's probably the fact that IO (And thus CO) was a long time coming, and that CMK has something of a narrow focus.

I just wish there was representation at the West Coast side.  Unfortunantly, it seems the gamers here are more fickle than the norm, and the cons out here just not super big draws.

Well what do you expect from all those weirdos in Cali :P

The same could be said though of the east coast. Dragon Con is pretty big round these parts but you never hear of a major CGL booth there. I know a year or so ago they did have a small presence though which was nice. Be nice to hear something about them being at the next Dragon Con.

Though equipment should seriously be outside the cost multiplier... can't add a small NCSS without making the price balloon horribly. Forum glitch. Bad forum. Bad bad forum!

A friend of mine goes to Dragon Con, i'm told is more RPG thing.  It would be nice venue to promote Battletech's other franchises like Shadowrun and A Time of War (despite it's flaws).

With MechCon starting up....maybe that would be good for a West Coast and the Battletech fans.

Clearly Randall should stop by every BattleTech player's house to make them all feel loved. It might have an impact on new product, however....

New product will come when new products come. It's the wait that is inexorably agonizing.

No, CGL should pay for all BT fans to come to GenCon. Much more convenient ;)

This is clearly a good idea.  Surely, we'll all buy enough to offset the cost...
