Interesting approach to crit-pack the head with a ton of LAC/5 ammo! I suppose it does make a statement - "If I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go with a bang!" Alternatively, it could be sold as an enhanced ejector seat mechanism ...  8)

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

As the rules are the head's quite simply one of the best places to put ammo if you don't have CASE. You need to auto-eject from any ammo explosion anyway, and the head slot is the least likely one to be hit!

And given that I don't expect my enemies to be idiots CASE on an IS XLFE mech is pretty much wasted money - It's 50/50 if I can salvage it or my enemy can.

After reading this, I had a rather twisted thought...
A little while back I worked up a Marauder variant using Plasma Rifles instead of PPC/ERPPCs. After seeing the OP's variant, I got to thinking: "Why couldn't I do up a LAC x 3 version of my PR variant?"
The range brackets for the PR and the LAC/5 are the same. While I had to drop one ton of PR ammo to allow the fourth ton on LAC ammo (to mirror the OP), there's still enough ammo for each PR to last a average game. I also had to drop a couple of DHS to make room for LAC ammo, but the 12, engine mount, DHS still allow a Alpha and walking and still remain heat-neutral.

The range is problematic, but any poor sucker too slow to get away will really hurt!

Well you should see the heavy-clan mixed PR Marauder variant that is a part of the post I linked to. I found it just a little scary pairing PRs and CER Med Lasers. I can't imagine too may Mechs can take 34 damage (2@ PR & CER Meds) and an additional 2D6 heat for long.
