Dark Crow
« on: 06 March 2011, 16:26:20 »
I do not have the web-fu to transfer the pics of the green but, if you like the Dark Crow, you are going to LOVE the mini!  Outstanding!  I saw no reason for even minor alterations ( although functioning weapons systems would be cool  :D ).

Pics, courtesy of Sawbones.  I'm not a fan of the art, but I must say the mini looks very well made.  This one should be a good seller!  O0

From Sawbones: 6 pcs....2 shoulder pads,2 waist guns, body and legs.45mm to top of cockpit,20mm wide across chest

Now let's see if i can get Imagecrap to work right this time around...

Looks more riciulous than artwork IMO, but then again I wasn't much of a fan how this design is laidout. Arms at the hips on a man walker, really? A chickenwalker like the NOva/Blackhawk I can understand the placement. On a manwlaker it looks silly.

I agree, the idea is stupid and looks ridiculous.  However, I can separate that from the actual construction of the mini, which I think looks great despite representing something so absurd.  It's the same way I feel about the Yeoman - horribly ugly, but the mini is extremely well done.

Very accurate mini, but since I hate the art, not likely to buy it.  Still, hope its a huge seller, as there are many Raven fans/players. [cheers]

My sentiments exactly.  A rather nice sculpt of a truly terrible design.  I am truly impressed with the sculpts and can barely wait till they get to some of the--IMO--better designs.

The torso may be a bit too tall...the mini has significant gaps between the torso and the guns and with the artwork not so much.

However...damn fine sculpt of a goofy design.  Nice detail and proportions at first glance...lets hope the actual cast looks as good, which hasn't always been the case.

Even it being such an obscure design by a minor clan, I might have to pick one up.

the clan is not so minor anymore, being one of seven in the inner sphere.

I am impressed, so much so I may get a couple to buddy up with my Deimos in Zeta Galaxy.

it's just such a stupid looking mech, but the mini is good, and i like the ravens so much i might be persuaded to get one of these
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

:o...Wow! Sculpt wise that thing is fantastic! In fact, it looks CAD rapid prototyped it's so good. Who is the sculptor Rob?

I wish the art was a little more practical. I can certainly appreciate trying to be original (especially with game art) but not at the cost of having a functional design. Moving the arms to the torsos under the armor plates will be a simple enough mod though.

NICE. I think it looks fantastic!. If I could have one thing modified, I would add a bit of a backpack/box to the back of the center torso to add some mass balance.  Really being nit-picky with that comment. It looks super, especially from the front. [notworthy]

The sadly often maligned ( by some ) Dave Summers has done all of the sculpts.  Other than the Grand Crusader by Rommel Tweed, Dave has done all of the Mech, vehicle, Proto, BA and infantry sculpts for several years.  He is an excellent sculptor.  Given good feedback, clarifications and differing perspective images from the artists/art director, Dave really nails them!  The front of the cockpit is to be shaved a bit for a gentler slope.  The larger than shown in the art gap between the upper and lower torsoes was noted but would have taken extensive rework to make such a minor change.

That looks pretty close to spot-on for the artwork. I'll have to look into one sometime when the gaming budget returns for me- not sure what I'd really use it for in a game, but can't hurt to have one around just in case, right?

The sadly often maligned ( by some ) Dave Summers has done all of the sculpts.

Well, not all of them. For instance I was able to do the Warhammer 8K, and Gencon CAT. I also know Psycho has done a few too (Sunder RE, and Blood Asp jump to mind).
Still, he really nailed it. Give him an extra-large pat on the back for this one!  [cheers]
