Resculpts
« on: 22 June 2011, 13:41:30 »
Is there a comprehensive list of resculpts?

I see that some are notated in the gallery at IWM, but some are not.

Some of these things look fantastic, and I'd like to "trade up" to the better look by picking them u p... but slogging through the whole catelog is a long, long job.

Not to my knowledge, but I'd think people here can create one pretty easily.

Off the top of my head:

All 16 3050 Omnimechs
Huron Warrior
Sunder
Blood Asp (twice)
Cauldron Born (pending, I hope still)
Stalker

I know there are others, but that's just from memory. That doesn't include reseens, nor does it include minis that have variants since that isn't really a resculpt. Others will likely add a good number to this list.

A few more which come to my mind:
Fireball
Dart
Bombardier
Argus
Atlas
Avatar
Thug
Orion
Bandersnatch
Hauptmann
Battle Hawk
Wolfhound
Charger
Grand Crusader
Scarabus
Hitman
Catapult

But there are certainly more ... come to think about it there were several Mechs which got redone with more or less small changes (or exist in more than one version): Commando, Annihilator, Victor, Orion (pre resculpt), Dragon, Awesome come to my mind.

Thread's about already-released resculpts- we've got a whole forum for minis we WANT resculpted.

The question is too large to easily answer, and difficult to boot: there are some resculpts that are "returns"...which is basically no changes at all (e.g. Flashman). Some resculpts have the most minor of changes (e.g. Spider). Many have a decent amount of changes (e.g. Awesome, Sunder, etc.). Some have what many might consider "too many" changes, like the Project Phoenix mechs, or the Dark Age mechs.
Then, there are resculpts of the same mech variant, and resculpts that depict a different variant but the same model (Komodo KIM-2, and Komodo KIM-2A for example).

It would help narrow it down if you could be more specific.

I have edited my personal mini spreadsheet, and will include a link where you can download it as soon as I get it hosted.
It includes almost all BT mini sculpts that have ever been produced, so you can sift though it for info like resculpts to you heart's content. (it's quite large)

I'm not aware of any resculpt of the Gunslinger, but if there is one I'd sure like to know about it. I never was impressed with the first (only?) sculpt, anyway.

Biggest problem was the sculpt messed up the arms

Maybe it's just me, but the mini seems a little tall, too

In the art that the sculpt was based upon, the arms were not well defined. The protruding barrels still weren't present in the art either but the upper arms were obscured and sculptor did have to fill in the blanks (or go from the artist notes if there were any).

The art from TRO55U really tweaked some things.

Yet you can still see a lack of 'chunckyness' that both pieces of art have
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

I'm mostly interested in the rescults that really improved some of the more "boxy" designs from the 3058 era... some of those minis were not only ugly, the scaling seemed wrong.

For a while there was a lot of size creep going on, too.

That's a fantastic list!  I had no idea that so many were not only retired, but often out of print!  I'm glad I bought them when I did, (though getting around to painting them is another story!)

So why is the Watchman listed as out of print?  Same with the Thunder?  It seems like some were taken out of print with no replacements...

A few from '55 were, unfortunately- some got resculpts eventually like the Battle Hawk and Dart, others like the Thunder never came back in any form. I seem to recall that the Apollo was being re-released in it's original sculpt again, but I'm not sure if it ever happened or not.

For what it's worth, if I had the money I'd thrown down for a resculpted Thunder, preferrably one with an alternate arm for the Arrow IV version. One of my favorite Mechs when I was learning the game, and still fun to use even with it's flaws.

That is correct, the mold was repaired.  The Thunder is on the to do list as well.

It was in the case of the Apollo when Darrian and myself spent an afternoon, several bottles of water and losing a tshirt each hunting the mold down.  The Thunder we haven't quite had a chance to do yet as there's other plans ongoing at the factory.
