Paint Sequence Initiated...
« on: 26 July 2015, 22:02:58 »
I absolutely love the new CG art for the upcoming Warhammer mini... except that it's a bit drab.  Well, I spent a whole three hours of my afternoon to bang this out.  I do plan on doing more.

I have to admit that for a couple seconds I thought you had gotten a prototype figure and painted it up.  Your photoshop-fu is amazing.

Thank you!

Next up is the St. Ives Lancers.  This is meant to be a depiction of a lancer 'mech predating St. Ives independence after the 4th Succession War.

I love the quality of your work - can't wait for the Marauder! But the St Ives Lancers are meant to be based a grey-tinted green; and that looks like just grey on my monitor.

The DBoG - old school - just fits that "mini" so well.

Cheers,

W.

I appreciate the detailed comment.  I went back and modified the St. Ives 'mech a bit to increase the color saturation on the green.  Hopefully it looks better.  Thanks for the comments, and I'm glad you like the DG paint job.

This next one deviates from the canonical description a bit.  When I do the Atrean Hussars paint schemes I like to add a few red highlights to make it "pop" a bit more, so I apologize in advance to the purists out there.

I dig your insignia work as well, especially the rather simplified heraldic style.  Feels way more true to what one would expect to see painted on military equipment.

Hmm. Anyone feel like doing a Gundam-style paint job? Blue upper torso, white everything else (including the head). I can't help but think that'd look good.

Well right now I'm only working on canonical paint schemes, but I've got a good idea for a loophole that would facilitate this :)

Very nice work there.

Yeah, I seriously considered it, but my the Atrean Hussars is a personal FWLM favorite of mine.  Fear not, I intend to make a lot more of these...

I, too, hope to one day empty my wallet in the general direction of IWM.

So in order to facilitate this, I decided to do something from the Dragon's Breath Merc unit, as it fit the color palate (I always assume the "gold" is not metallic).  I hope it's good enough.

Thanks, that means a lot to me because your work and style inspired me a lot. Seems we share a common taste in this regard.
I especially dislike the use of colour gradients and unnecessary, flashy highlights in insignia - it really screams "made by computer".

Yes, I can do that very easily, and I think it would be fun.  I'm away from my work computer and source material for much of the weekend, but I have a mind to use the Historical: Reunification War or Historical: Liberation of Terra 1/2 to get some ideas for such an undertaking.  Since the scheme is so plain, I'd like to do more than just slap an SLDF insignia and set of numbers on it.

Would you consider the Crescent Hawks?

TT

Would I!  My plan for this undertaking is rather sweeping, the main limiting factor is the amount of time I have.  My release schedule is Davion, Liao, Marik, Steiner, Kurita, Mercenary.  But I know some people will want some "others", so I'll throw in the odd choice every so often (like the above SLDF suggestion).

No guarentees or promises to either of you or anyone else, but I'll do as much as I can!
