Named for an event during its trials where the test pilot consistently used the mechanical jump booster to build up as much ground speed as possible before she jumped into the middle of a simulated infantry unit. Invariably the combination of mass plus velocity created a short ranged 'slam' that either outright stunned and knocked over nearby infantry, or briefly disoriented them. Having the main armaments of the suit up in the shoulders also kept them safe from such a 'slam' in case the pilot had to use the unit's arms to stabilize herself, and allowed them to be used immediately after landing, even as the suit was getting back upright. Infantry assigned to Groundpounders have come to affectionately refer to the suit as 'The Lineman', and an unofficial kill patch named the 'Grand Slam' is awarded to anyone successfully using the 'slam' technique against a vehicle, in conjunction with its powerful battle claw, that results in the vehicle's destruction. Detractors of the unit have occasionally pointed out that the terms 'Lineman' and 'Grand Slam' come from two completely different Terran sports, while making none-to-subtle jibs that repeated slam impacts have damaged the pilots' mental states.
