 Another fun little conventional product from my character's factory in the Marian-based campaign i am playing.

Overview

Even if the aerospace fighter is the undisputed King of the skies since the 24Th century, the venerable conventional fighter craft still have a viable role providing air support to planetary militias that for technical or economic reason can not access aerospace fighters. This is eve more accentuated in the Periphery (of course, not counting the Outworlds Alliance), were aerospace fighters are usually used by front line units, leaving militias with few options. And thus i show Saint Bertrille Aerospace, sister Company to Fray Beltran Foundries, found a its niche market in the Marian Hegemony.

Capacities

Based in the Wingman Enterprise's Bat Hawk Strike Fighter (rumors says that the licence was obtained by means of Pinard Protectorates Limited), the Strix, named that reffer to a mythological bloodsucking bird, differs a lot from the later. Altough share the use of internal combustion turbine engine, and a similar amount of armor (mostly around the cockpit and engine to improve its survivability), the Strix Exchange the autocannon-10 for one of the new Marian Arms “ignis” Large Lasers made in its new Benevolentia´s plant. Replacing the Harvester 2K, four rocket launcher-10 racks add a considerable firepower, altough of a one-shoot kind. To round the design a recon camera was added so the fighter can serve a dual pourpose of recon/attack. Of course, to fit all this changes, and to the pilot's displeasure, the fighter's flight autonomy was reduced to only two tons of fuel, but it can be improved by the use of fuel pods.

Deployment

With less than a year in production, its use is spreading among the Marian provincial legions, and there are reports that the model show good capacities in ground attack roles and interception of slower targets.

Variants

There are none variants for now, but the Company is weighing the idea of  a variant more similar to Wingman´s Bat Hawk

Notable Pilots

Legionnaire Hernus Louw
A recent immigrant from the Marik world of Jubka, were its Calvinist Boer minority is oppressed by a Muslim majority, Hemus had experience as a Defender Medium Strike Fighter pilot in the planetary militia and in the recently formed New Venice provincial Legio. As he recently reached the Rank of Legionnaire, he was assigned to one of the first Strix out of the Factory. Altough its is quite different from the Defender he was piloting, he has showed natural aptitudes for strafing attacks, now possible thanks to his Strix´s large laser.

This is a good foundation to base an upgrade on. When the Hegemony becomes more advanced, this guy can easily switch to a fusion engine and, plasma rifle and longer-ranged missiles

I can see this being a nice model to be upgraded to higher tech level hardware.

But I would like to look at giving it V/STOL ability and then keeping the RL10

 Was thinking in the V/STOL variant. Also one similar to the original Bat Hawk. Altough the LRM one are nice. I choose a Large Laser to get a different form the base model, and to fit with the current campaign lore, as Marian Arms created an energy weapons plant in the same planet as Saint Bertrille.

V/STOL allows you to use "harrier" like operational deployments.
parked in barns, under bridges, etc...  or scarier the parking garage

and building to fit your campaign is better  8)  then building the best model out there  :P
