Worktroll challenges me to make a ship, I end up adding another faction to the bloated mess of "...And I feel fine." This is my brain, ladies and gentlemen!

Ovkhan,

It appears our wayward cousins have done quite well for themselves since fleeing the homeworlds so long ago. Despite early rough patches and the disorder sown by our own Watch agents, their Escorpio Imperio has flourished in the last several decades, establishing a considerable industrial base and a large military industrial complex that has sustained steady growth of their touman, most particularly their naval forces.

Their naval program appears to be in direct response to the scouring of the Homeworlds. Scout ships from the Imperio had apparently discovered the state of the homeworlds shortly after our evacuation, and even attempted to recover survivors (one ship was lost as a result due to an outbreak of one of the many contagions unleased on the homeworlds among the crew). From those few survivors they succeeded in returning to the Imperio, they learned the details of the scouring, and of the existence of the unknown enemy that carried it out.

Almost immediately, the Escorpio Imperio began a crash program to rebuild their naval strength, anticipating the need to defend their new home from a similar series of attacks. Their first jump capable design was a variant of the ancient Type 51 gunboat, more as a proof of concept rather than a practical defense platform. Immediately after that design proved viable, the Imperio began work on its successor, the Cordoba.

By mass and performance, the Cordoba easily qualifies as a battlecruiser class vessel (it is classified as a battleship by the Imperio). Though it is built to significantly less advanced standards than a typical WarShip, the Cordoba is nonetheless a dangerous opponent, well suited to defending the Imperio's territories despite the short range of its primitive jump core.

The ship's armament a mixed bag of primarily beam weapons, with a few naval cannons and missiles to provided additional punch. The vessel is undeniably a bow fighter. Many of its heaviest weapons are of a less sophisticated, much more bulky design that limits their ability to traverse and thus necessitates a relatively narrow field of fire. Weaponry covering the aft of the ship is extremely limited, even with the ship's extensive secondary weapons batteries. Of note is the point defense array, which provides the Cordoba significant protection from naval missiles, a clear response to the widespread use of nuclear warheads during the Scouring. Support units include a binary each of aerospace fighters and unarmored marines.

Despite the two year construction time for each new hull, the Imperio has managed to amass a fairly impressive force of Cordoba class battlecruisers (as well as a veritable swarm of Type 51s, which serve as escorts to the larger battlecruisers), and continues to build them as quickly as possible (presently there are four construction slips dedicated to the Cordoba class). Though the recently refitted Lei Kung remains the Imperio's flagship, the Cordoba is clearly their main combat vessel.

Though I know some of our more extreme fellows consider all who left the Clans to be beyond redemption, perhaps we should be considering reconciliation rather than annihilation in this case. The Scorpions have amassed considerable resources which could greatly aid future campaigns. Though it is right that they gain no spoils from our final liberation of the Inner Sphere, setting them to the task of securing the coreward periphery nations would save forces for our primary campaign as well as limit the need for using our own troops on such distasteful duty. At the very least, they are more likely to earn their keep than our other allies among our fallen cousins.

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

  • And I think it's gonna be a long, long time...
That's actually rather mean, though it's definitely a battlecruiser, rather than a battleship.  I do wonder if it should emphasize its forward armor more, though.
