My favorite light mech, bar none...

The base model was certainly one of my top 5 lights..  BUT i also liked the Wlf-2.  The ER large allow it to pack its smacking further than regular PPCs can..

Though I kinda want to see a variant that trades a couple of the mediums for small pulse lasers. Mix one of those in with the standard wolfhounds for those times when your unit finds itself in a "bad neighborhood" and needs to scrape off some infantry.

OR drops one of the foward MLS and the rear one to upgrade the 2 remaining to medium pulses..

It's not who you kill, but how they die!
You can't shoot what you can't see.
You can not dodge it if you don't know it's coming.

The one variant I would have liked to see is a 3025 era version where you replace the rear firing medium laser with a flamer.  Keeps the all energy idea but allows the mech the ability to kill infantry which I think is a great thing to have on a light mech.

But the Wolfhound's job is to kill the light mechs that want to try to kill your infantry.

Sure and it still does that but now it can do a better job if it gets ambushed by infantry or it is around and you need a mech to do something about them.  Also flamers have some nice utility to them and I think that would be something that would be desired in such a mech.  It would not be a mech designed to do that as a priority but like many other designs with some built in versatility it is the sort of small, and still thematically appropriate (due to being stil an all energy weapon mech), change that makes it more useful.

No need to justify adding an afterburner! :D

Hmm switch out the large laser with a ppc and we could have lightning out of its arm and fire out of its arse.

Now we just need a variant of the Albatross that has a Blue Field PFD* and a rear-mounted LRM-5 using Thunder munitions.

2) You don't want to mix jumpers and non-jumpers in Lances/Companies at the higher levels of organization as the jumper basically losses the ability to jump, your comment suggests that the LCAF was mixing.

But at the time of the late 3rd Succession War, the Lyrans used Commandos extensively. Those don't jump either, so assigning a Wolfhound to a lance with two Commandos wasn't unheard of and probably common. Add in a Phawk as lance leader and you have the jumper to go out, find the Panthers and Jenners, and then lead them back to the other elements of the lance. The Phawk and Wolfhound start cracking armor and the Commandos critseek with SRMs.

One of my favourite 'Mechs, and probably my favourite light 'Mech, in the game. I am mostly experienced with the WLF-1 and WLF-2 in introtech and early Clan Invasion games. How do the later models, particularly the HPPC models, do in Dark Age games? Are they still worthwhile or has the advances in technology made them impractical?
...Is this just fantasy?

It's still a good mech, so long as you keep it to its traditional role of scout hunting or otherwise avoid pitched battles.

I have always liked the Wolfhound even though it does not jump.  The original variant can be used effectively past 3025 you just cannot have eyes bigger than your stomach.

I have only used the 1 and 2 variants and they are very effective.

I would just try to keep it out of the range of enemy flamers and inferno SRMs.

I have to thank the wolfhound for the phawk light, especially the snppc version. Loved tossing that at my players
