Am I the only one? (Grey Death inside)

This has bewildered me since childhood and I have to ask this. Was the commander of the Grey Death Legion just an offbrand Rod Steward?  ::)

Probably not,  considering many other of the personages over the years bore resemblances to many contemporary figures.

The resemblance is so uncanny (and not traditionally heroic) that I'm wondering myself.

The illustration looks to be a Jim Holloway; I believe he's still active in the gaming industry and it might be possible to track down the source and get this 80s pop monkey off our collective back?   ;)

Lots of the recent pictures seemed to be various actors in movies . . . the one I hear raised the most is Ulric Kerensky being Sean Connery in Hunt for Red October.

Hanse Davion was William Shatner, IIRC.

I'd have to hear that one from the artist... I just don't see the resemblance.  Maybe I'm looking at the wrong art...

I actually hate the Hanse Davion=William Shatner comparison,

That was Jaime Wolf from the Chaos March book

but artist interpretation can very, VSD didn't look anything like Daniel Craig until after Casino Royal

If it's any consolation, looking at the two pictures side by side, I can see the Rod Stewart in that pic of Gray Carlyle.

One other one I've had a hunch was based on a real personality was General Alexander Kerensky, whose picture in Liberation of Terra I looks very much like his real-life namesake, Aleksandr Kerensky, the leader of the February Revolution in Russia. Just remove the hair (the real Kerensky was not a chrome-dome) and they are very close together in appearance.

No, that is not Connery in Red October- no spiked hair . . . I want to say it was the original Wolf book or maybe F&W SB.

Who's that Clanner who looks like Vin Diesel? Always cracks me up, that one

And I could swear the aerospace pilot template illustration in ATOW looks exactly like 1 of Rihanna's pub shots

One ping only, trothkin...? But its Vandervahn Chistu IMHO who looks more like Sean Conneryevich Ramius

I have a friend who's a dead ringer for Era Report 3062 Ranna Kerensky; even the expression is the same for whenever I say something dumb.

Another friend looks like the Masters and Minions' Devlin Stone.

Now that you show it, yes. But, for some reason, I couldn't help thinking of a different 80s actor - an aged 60s actor, actually. Maybe one of the guys from Dallas? Can't quite think of 'im. When I do, I'll let y'all know.

Actually since you posted a black & white photo . . . I am sure he has been used I just cannot think of where . . . and I think the Shatner likeness would be even greater if you compared it to one of the Undiscovered Country era photos-

I will have to look through books and see if I can find the Ulric is Ramius photo.

Honestly, I think this happens a lot but the artists have to use the same number of differences from the real person like we talk about the classics needing.  Might be interesting to go through some and find what maybe likenesses . . . like . . .

I think David Santos from Reunificatin War looks like Detective James Gordon from Gotham-

And Aletha Kabrinksy was Lucy Lawless, but only once- in every other appearance her facial bone structure is far too heavy.

It does look a lot like him. But Jeff Laubenstein did all the internal art for the Grey Death sourcebook. Is he still contactable?

This one is killing me. I can picture the actor but can't think of his name or any movie he's been in.  Older man... light blue eyes, almost always in a suit or other "rich/powerful guy" clothing. Can't say he's a superstar but he's been in a lot of movies, often as the bad guy.
