Caught three movies.  First up was Gifted, the somewhat decent story of a single man raising his gifted 7 yr old niece..  Started out hating the grandmother, but felt sorry for her in the end..  Very well acted, but the plot needed work.

Then game, Going out in style with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Allen Arkin..  Very nicely done..

Last was Fate of the Furious..  MAN was i itching to see Statham and the rock go at it again..  BUT i like how it ended..  Also i would have LOVED to know, had that hacking been real, and all those cars were sent to crash like crazy, how LONG it would have taken to clean up the streets of Manhattan?!?!

Finally watched John Wick. I saw the cut puppy at the beginning and hoped they wouldn't hurt the dog. They hurt the dog and John Wick did what I would have done, Killed Them All

Ended up buying it off Amazon.

Wife is now a fan but had to fast forward through the dog scene

Finished that earlier, I binged Redbox movies. Those were two of them. Fist Fight and Fate of the Furious were the other two.

Picked up Shin Godzilla over the weekend and finally got a chance to watch it after work today.  Even knowing the plot ahead of time, even having watched a blogger who spoilered everything and talked about the symbology and political/cultural commentary of the movie in a Japanese context.  It was still so engrossing you could not look away from it for the entire 1 hour 59 minute stretch.  Finally a true successor to the original 1954 version.

Watched "Hidden Figures" with the wife last Saturday. Definitely worth the watch; presuming nothing was overly embellished, I now have even more respect for John Glenn.

Not human, but human-like.  If you look closely you can see that they have spikey ridges down their spines and huge fangs.  Most likely conjecture is that it was godzilla evolving again and attempting to turn into something smaller and more numerous and agile.  Though it could also have been a reference to godzilla being the vengeful spirit of those killed by nuclear weapons.  Just as Godzilla was actually a stand in for the Fukushima meltdown.

Speaking of Monster movies,  I just watched Kong Skull Island.
It was pretty good adventure movie.  It was very well structured story with heroes and frankly survivors.

Allegedly there going to be King Kong vs Godzilla in 2020.  I don't know how good that would be, but we'll have to wait and see.

I liked the fact that Kong showed up 2 minutes into the film and had numerous scenes, unlike Legendary's Godzilla, which didn't appear until halfway through and had 5 minutes of screen time.

What I loved most about Kong was that it seemed like an updated version of Son of Godzilla.  Or maybe even Kong  Escapes. It had a lot of old monster movie DNA in it.

Though if it was the same island the king kong from several years back was taken from, was HE one of them?  OR is this just a retcon??

It's a new setting.  Everything is new, none of the old movies exist in the same canon.

death note light up the new world

not as much tension as in first 3 movies...at least majority of the cast came back...some of the new reapers that show up are interesting.

According to the writers and the director of Kong vs Zilla there will be a clear winner.  None of this everybody has to decide who won crap. Everbody place your bets....

Dunkirk - very disappointed
Huh.  I saw it the night it premiered and I though it was well worth the cost of admission.   :o

Really?  Sorry but:

Six guys show up in Dunkirk and they are perfectly dressed neat and proper?
Looked like a couple dudes at a beach party.  There were 400k dudes there.  Where the hell were they?
Boats!  Where the hell are the boats?  Looked like a Regatta.
Amazing floating Spitfires?  Really?
CGI of the BF109 - why can't they do it right?  The exhaust manifolds go on the bottom.  Plus no yellow nose until later.

If you wanted entertainment - it was fine.
Historical accuracy - no so much

The 109 wasn't CGI, it was a Hispano Buchon painted to resemble a Messerschmitt Bf 109E.

Yes in some scenes it was a Hispano in others it's CGI like the Stuka and the bomber - either way it irked me

Oh and I forgot the modern shipping cranes in the background

I never do this, but I couldn't finish it. There was just a constant cascade of stupid in that film.

Not a movie but I just finished The Tick. It starts out very weird,  but settles in to the classic Tick about half way through.

Wife and I finally are caught up on "Grace and Frankie." It's a fun series - Lily Tomlin is a particular delight, and the rest of the cast doesn't disappoint, either.
