Scorpion mech art
« on: 27 May 2017, 13:24:18 »
I don't post much on these forums (as much as i do on MWO and Battletech HBS), but i felt i'd share this here.
The Scorpion is my favorite mech and i was bored some time ago and decided to try and do something.

It's actually a 3D model, i had made completely from scratch, which i took and "painted-over" in GIMP to give it some extra details and a paintjob of sorts.

Unseen. But that pic is beautiful. Nice work, mate... can you do variants (in the theme of how the TRO: Project Phoenix imagery was done)?

One thing i'm surprised they didn't put in the Scorpion was a another knee joint on the leg, it would probably help reduce the stiff gait of the mech and give its pilots a better ride, all be it at the cost of increased maintenance.

Eh, the rough-ride is part of her charm  :D

Also, as suggested i tried making a few variants: the 1TB rocking double Light-PPCs and an MML-9 and the 12K with the Snub-nosed PPC, MML-9 and an ER Medium Laser.

Don't really have the time to "paint-them-over", but you know.

Very nice work!  O0 The Scorpion is one of my favorite looking mechs.

It's too bad.  There was someone couple years ago who made a Battletech game using Blender.
He high succeeded making it work, though he didn't use any models that were 4 legged.

I've tried Blender.  Not easy.

I use Autodesk Inventor myself, and I find it a bit easier than sketchup, but mainly just different.

 O0 Juodas

I also used sketchup - very simple to start - maybe other software would cause better results faster now. But I wanted something with an easy start.

the export to other formats is a bit tricky (when you use the Make Licence)... But you can save the sketchup to dae - then use for example open3d to open the *.dae file and export it to a file of your liking

and hey - you really need to paint it with much more colors - circus you know  ;D

This is great work! I love it!
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.
