Painted prototypes at GenCon
« on: 22 August 2017, 21:20:57 »
Hey all... I know there are a lot of photos out there with pictures of the new miniature prototypes in the display case at GenCon, but I haven't seen many that show the painted ones. The attached photo contains a Locust painted by Dak, as well as a Thunderbolt and Battlemaster painted by me.  We did these during the con in the gaming hall, and thus didn't get them into the case until Saturday.

Also, the guy standing on the other side of the display case is Michael Stackpole.

What is Stackpole up to? I don't see his books much anymore and it makes me sad...

He's had six novels published since 2010, a mix of original work and game tie-ins, and he's got an anthology of new stories featuring the Kell Hounds due out from Catalyst soon.

I´m just so happy that the "Old Ones" are back and I love them from head to toe. They look credible, the biggies look like proper brawlers, no unnecessary lines. Just awesome. I hope this is the future of Battletech minis. Who isthe artist responsible for this I want to thank him/her.

They looked pretty nice at Gencon. They looked almost as good as Pewter mechs.

Do you have ANY idea how many people were legitimately considering committing various misdemeanors just to posses those painted minis! DO YOU! Beacuse most people I talked to were seriously weighing the tradeoff of having a criminal record with being able to run through the conventions screaming, "MY PRECIOUS!!!!" with those minis in hand!

No joke though, they got a LOT of attention, and everything I heard about them was positive. Honestly, a lot of what I heard standing next to the case was, "Where can I buy these?"

I like the Unseen Battlemaster.  I thought the Reseen was better.

But that one?  It's everything 'MECH should be.  It's GLORIOUS.

So, you'd be interested in a chance to have a set of four of your very own, without the legal record?

Well, it's a good thing you don't know where I live!

Fantastic job painting sir!

If anyone is interested in the technical details, these were printed on a Formlabs Form 2 at .05mm Z resolution in a mix of Form's clear and Grey V3 resin. The grey ran out halfway through the job (this was a fairly last minute set-up) so I had to switch to clear. I prefer final objects in the grey as the detail is better, but the actual printing can be a real pain.

Maker of big things.
