(Answered) When will AMS help you?
« on: 30 July 2013, 11:15:24 »
Quote from: BattleTech Alpha Strike Page 46
Anti-Missile System (AMS)
A unit with an AMS reduces the damage from any attack specifically delivered by the IF, SRM, or LRM special abilities by 1 point (to a minimum of 1) as long as the attack comes from the front.

Does the AMS special ability work only when the unit is the target of an attack which is using only the IF, SRM, or LRM special ability? Or does it work more like the Reactive Armor and Reflective Armor special abilities, which work/don't work so long as the attacking unit has certain special abilities (ENE, AC#, etc.) listed on their card, even when not making an attack solely with those special abilities?

The text certainly implies the former, but this would serve to make AMS a fairly lackluster ability in most scenarios. Especially if specialty ammunition is not currently being used.
