(Answered) Standard Artillery rules and airborne units
« on: 10 February 2017, 17:57:30 »
When using the standard artillery rules added in the last Alpha Strike errata I am curious how these attacks interact with airborne ground units (VTOL's WiGE, etc.)

When using the standard artillery rules is it possible to target airborne ground units and are there any limits to hitting airborne ground units when a POI is the target?

Is there an elevation limit to such attacks?  For example, is the blast template to be considered 2" tall as well as 2" in diameter?

Thank you.

If a unit has elevation (different from the POI's elevation), the elevation difference should be added to the distance from the POI for area of effect attacks.  A VTOL 1" above the POI and 2" to the side is 3" away from the POI.
Airborne aerospace units with a flight path are too high to be affected by POI attacks. Airborne aerospace units or higher flying VTOLs would need to be targeted directly, ie not using a POI but targeting the unit.  They are why the option to target a unit instead of a POI was left in the standard artillery rules.
