So, is it a Clantech Ontos?

Sort of kinda, its designed as a second line unit and for Garrison forces.

Wow, that is gorgeous. I don't usually venture down here, but that is one badass tank. Excellent work by Plog!

Beautiful design! ;)
When I first laid eyes on it, I thought that it would be a nice engineering vehicle.  Personally, I might drop some of those weapons in favor of bridge-laying equipment.  Where mechs could jump over or wade through a river, non-hover armor has to detour to a bridge.  A bridge-layer would allow armor to keep up with their mechs when confronted by a river.

It could make for a pretty versatile chassis  if all you had to do is remove turret and equipment for the bridge (I’m away from books and unsure)

Then you could do what regular military do and use the same chassis for multiple jobs

dang it..now you got me thinking about CEV's...

Code: [Select]
Nguni CEV
Clan experimental
60 tons
BV: 660
Cost: 2,043,200 C-bills

Movement: 4/6 (Tracked)
Engine: 240 Fuel Cell

Internal: 30
Armor: 128
                     Internal    Armor
--------------------------------------
Front                       6       40
Right                       6       24
Left                        6       24
Rear                        6       40
Turret                      6        0

Weapon                         Loc  Heat
----------------------------------------
LRM 5                           FR     2
LRM 5                           FR     2
Light Machine Gun               LS     0
Light Machine Gun               LS     0
Light Machine Gun               RS     0
Light Machine Gun               RS     0
Light Machine Gun Array         LS     0
Light Machine Gun Array         RS     0

Ammo                           Loc Shots
----------------------------------------
LRM 5 Ammo                      BD    24
LRM 5 Ammo                      BD    24
Light Machine Gun Ammo          BD   200

Equipment                      Loc
----------------------------------
Heavy Bridge Layer              TU
Bulldozer                       FR
Mine Sweeper                    RR
Lift Hoist                      LS
Lift Hoist                      RS
Mounted Searchlight             TU
Cargo (4 tons)                  BD

The LRM's I saw as being possibly used to fire anti-mine missiles or lay small smoke screens whilst its doing its work if making a bridging point that's opposed.

The problem is that visually the bridge is a huge problem. Literally.

As you can see here, the bridge utterly dominates the vehicle and its why armies use two vehicles, one as a bridge later, the other as a combat engineering tractor/recovery vehicle. Bridge layers are super specialized and tend to be single role vehicles.  So what would probably be needed is a bridging unit and a CET like this;

Which is why I came up with this;

Code: [Select]
Aspis CET
Clan advanced
60 tons
BV: 678
Cost: 2,084,640 C-bills

Movement: 4/6 (Tracked)
Engine: 240 Fuel Cell

Internal: 30
Armor: 160
                     Internal    Armor
--------------------------------------
Front                       6       39
Right                       6       29
Left                        6       29
Rear                        6       25
Turret                      6       38

Weapon                         Loc  Heat
----------------------------------------
ProtoMech AC/8                  TU     2

Ammo                           Loc Shots
----------------------------------------
ProtoMech AC/8 Ammo             BD    10
ProtoMech AC/8 Ammo             BD    10
ProtoMech AC/8 Ammo             TU    10

Equipment                      Loc
----------------------------------
Backhoe                         TU
Bulldozer                       FR
Lift Hoist                      TU
Lift Hoist                      TU
Mine Sweeper                    RR
Mounted Searchlight             FR

The PAC-8 is there to blow up obstructions, not really to act as a combat weapon but to help the CET do its job.

Yeah that's kinda what I meant when I first said it  (although the all in one is kinda cool)

Basically the chassis becomes a basis for a bunch of vehicles all based off the same hull

So you'd have a bridge laying variant
A recovery vehicle
A mine clearer
Maybe a heavy APC/transport variant

Not Omni vehicle but basic vehicles that are modified into other roles

Hmm well the mine clearer could also act as the recovery vehicle, that's what the Aspis basically can do as its a CET (Combat Engineering Tractor) and I doubt the Horses need another Heavy APC as they have the Aithon doing that, unless for second line forces you want one, and then yeah that could and would work and make snese.

maybe an a heavy cargo carrier for more dangerous regions?  Border worlds with the Inner Sphere a heavy vehicle that can defend itself but it's primary goal is cargo/personnel transport

and for the Bridging unit.

Code: [Select]
Bolo Assault Bridge.
Clan advanced
60 tons
BV: 737
Cost: 1,835,200 C-bills

Movement: 4/6 (Tracked)
Engine: 240 Fuel Cell

Internal: 24
Armor: 160
                     Internal    Armor
--------------------------------------
Front                       6       50
Right                       6       35
Left                        6       35
Rear                        6       40

Weapon                         Loc  Heat
----------------------------------------
Vehicular Grenade Launcher      LS     1
Vehicular Grenade Launcher      RS     1
Vehicular Grenade Launcher      FR     1
Vehicular Grenade Launcher      RR     1
LRM 5                           FR     2

Ammo                           Loc Shots
----------------------------------------
VGL Chaff Grenade              None     1
VGL Chaff Grenade              None     1
VGL Chaff Grenade              None     1
VGL Chaff Grenade              None     1
LRM 5 (Clan) Smoke Ammo         BD    24

Equipment                      Loc
----------------------------------
Heavy Bridge Layer              FR
Fully Amphibious                BD
Lift Hoist                      LS
Lift Hoist                      RS

!MechView.CarringCapacity!Troops - 5.0 tons

The LRM although mounted on the front is like those on the Mars, they are rear mounted but fire forwards, but it will only be able to fire once the bridge is out the way.  The hoists are there to help build the bridge and the amphibious kit allows the Bolo to go into water to act as a support for its bridge if needs be.

Isn't the bridge detachable in RL militaries?  If so, maybe the vehicle could put it down next to the worksite while it does other tasks that require a bit more finesse.
I really like the idea of making this into a CEV considering that everyone has big scary tanks, but not a CEV.
