(Answered) Space Stations and Jumpship transport
« on: 23 November 2014, 21:01:48 »
A couple of space stations, most notably the Capitol class defense station, mention in their fluff the ability to be transported on a jumpship docking collar. However, no current rules offer any support for this capability.

An early ruling from long ago, now lost to the ages of crashed boards, and actually predating the current set of core rulebooks, stated that certain stations could be transported by jumpship should they have an KF Boom installed, however no mechanic was ever put into place to determine which ones had a KF Boom or how one would put one on a custom design. Further no rules covering the subject made their way into the current core books.

As such, is it the official game mechanic that no space station can be transported on a jumpship docking collar?

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

The Snowden Station is a canon station that may be transported by JumpShip. Future errata will allow the Capitol Station as well.

The errata for this rule is:

SO p. 151 Special Enhancements
Add New Paragraph

"The exception to this is for Space Stations which are equipped to be carried by JumpShips. Such Space Stations are limited to 100,000 tons and must be equipped with a KF Boom. They replace the Space Station cost multiplier of x1.25 (see p. 158) with x20."

SO p. 66 Docking
Add New Paragraph

"Space Stations, equipped with KF Booms, take 1 hour to dock and to undock from a JumpShip for every 1,000 tons of mass (rounded up). They also occupy one Collar per 50,000 tons (rounded up). For example, the Snowden Mining Station, at 51,000 tons, takes 51 hours to dock with a JumpShip (51,000/1000= 51 hours) and two docking collars to be moved. In campaign play, round hours up to the nearest whole day (so the same Snowden would take three days to dock or undock). The JumpShip need only be present for the last half (round up) of the docking time or first half of the undocking time. During docking procedures a Space Station may not expend thrust, fire weapons or launch/ recover other units."

Exact wording of the final errata may be changed for clarity. However until such time as that is issued these rules are official.
