Turkina II by Matt Plog.
« on: 09 January 2018, 15:36:02 »
Drawn by the amazing - https://mattplog.deviantart.com/

This is a re-take on the Jade Falcon's Turkina.  I will say that I wasn't a fan of the Turkina, if only visually.  It, to my eyes looked fat and dumpy, and the shoulder joints would be nightmares as you've got the LRM's firing basically THROUGH the joint assembly for the arms, plus its dinky lil legs looked too small to support the top weight of the body.

So when I commissioned this, I wanted it to look more Attack Helicopter, instead of Zepplin in terms of looks. To keep the sleek and somewhat squat lines intact, the LRM's are now in an angled VLS configuration instead of the standard box launchers, this keeps the profile down.  The body is now more narrow and angular but the broad shoulders remain which were almost a hallmark of the Turkina chassis.  Still with her slimmer body the result is still a more narrow profile when viewed frontally (probably has the same issue as a Marauder, narrow frontal profile, HUGE side aspect).

As this is an upgrade the weapons were changed.

Gone is the grossly inefficient pair of LB-5X and in their place is a HAG-20 with 2 tons of ammo.  The LRM's also get 2 tons each for more endurance and now have Artemis V.  The paired ER PPC's remain, whilst an ECM is added.

As always, thoughts and comments are appreciated :)

Really good art. I'm impressed.

It bothers me that in the picture the mechs center of mass is out of its base of support. I like everything about it except that it's going to fall on its nose.

Action photo perhaps. It looks only over balance if we consider it to be a static image. As an action shot it could be comparable to a human leaning forward into a running stride.

While I do enjoy PlogWork, I'm not a fan of this.  Maybe I'm just too used to the old ugly bird.  Most updated art at least makes me think of the original, this does not make me think Turkina.

The art isn't bad, it looks cool (except the missile launchers, I don't like those), but I don't think Turkina when I see it.

Ditto what Mattalov said: I like it but it just doesn't scream Turkina to me. Lovely artwork regardless.

It's lovely picture, but i just don't get a Turkina vibe from it as much.  I guess the King Crab shellback thing is thing when i look at the Turkina art.

Beautiful artwork. The new missile layout makes it look like an assault version of the Vulture.

A good take that I think makes a connection between the regular Turkina and this. The missile placement is jarring (though it makes sense with an LRM style 'lofting' flight path) as are the beefed up legs. I can grok that if you're adding 20-30 tons to the vehicle.

Yeah, good thought. I was actually thinking the missile layout was sort of an interesting blend between a Mars Assault Vehicle and an Anubis when I originally saw this. Love those beefy legs! And, the hull certainly screams 'attack chopper.' So, mission accomplished there.

Hm, the HAG20 looks more like an HAG40 tbh. Otherwise a great looking mech.
