Zeus X: where to the back fins go?
« on: 27 April 2012, 20:49:19 »
I just picked this mini up today, and the back fins don't really seem to have a well-defined attachment point.

they mount off the 'spine'... here is the best reference i can find: http://www.camospecs.com/Miniature.asp?ID=3314

you can bend the metal a bit to make them line up as much as possible, but i simply suggest using epoxy for a solid bond.  just be sure you have the location planned / marked out before you start swabbing the stuff on.  good luck!

yeah, well, that's up for debate... the cover of Maximum Tech is hardly conclusive.  until MechCommander 2 (which convinced MW:DW to do the same) put the fins on the arms i always saw them placed on the back.  personally, i think they look better that way.  but hey, you can put them wherever you want, really.

I always figured the back of the arms looked best, the fins are a real pain to attach as well, best bet is to flatten them out a bit and put the flat part inside the arm and glue it in. Otherwise its very fragile. Oh wait, its fragile no matter what.

I put them in the shoulders because they were a fairly secure mounting point. I have to say though, I'm disappointed with the quality of the sculpt.  The lines are very "soft" and irregular.

Which version? I though Church's Zeus was nice.

Yeah, not the Wolf's Dragoons one, just a single mini in a blister labeled "Zeus X".

I have the same issue with mine Zeus and, I opted to fix 'em in the emitorso basically because I used magnets that make impossible to put them in the shoulders.

From my experience it doesn't mater where you put them.  They'll fall off and disappear before you even make it to painting.

If you really want to go through the "fun" of putting them on I'd go with the shoulders.  That's where they are in the video games, the wizkids zeus, and in the wolf's Dragoons zeus.  http://www.camospecs.com/Miniature.asp?ID=4437

I do prefer the finned version of the zeus.  The reg one just looks off.

Yeah, I got a Zuess X years ago, glued the fins into the back channel as lobsterback said, and they have never fallen off...

On my mini there were no well-defined channels for the fins to go in.  To clarify it is *not* the Zeus X Stacy from the Wolf and Blake lance pack, but the same one that SteelRaven linked to.

Here is a pic of mine. Excuse the poor quality, I forced the flash so thatthe details were most apparent. The fins are mounted outwards of the ziplike thingies on both sides of the center pannel.
