Back in 2011 I had an idea of taking all of my figures and dividing them into two piles: one would be 'allies' and one would be 'hostiles'. The idea was that all 'allies' would be in a blue paint scheme inspired by the computer game MechCommander, and all the hostile blips would be in red. They could represent any faction, and that way, I didn't have to do specific factional paint schemes for anyone - if it was red, it was whoever the bad guy was for the scenario.
I'm basically doing a quick/simple top-light contrast scheme: I paint it all in medium blue/cream, wash it with black, then repaint front and sides of panels in medium blue/cream, and paint all top-facing panels in bright blue/cream. I'm not sure how well it shows in the photo, but in real life, it makes it look like light is shining down from above on the figures, and the shapes of the panels are really visible to the eye when sitting or standing around the table.
My previous photos all got deleted by Photobucket, so I thought I'd do an update on my progress, which has been slow - I only paint things every now and then. Anyhow, here's what I've painted of the blue team so far.
Today I also painted up a hunchback, whitworth, and Valkyrie (reseen sculpt), and a Ral Partha battlemaster that I've had lying about for around 20 years.
