Rattler Mk III!
« on: 13 June 2016, 18:13:36 »
Yesterday was the local annual IPMS show, with associated swap-meet & sale. There, I picked up a lovely 1:400 snap-tite kit (brand: "4D Master") of space shuttle & crawler. The shuttle might well come in handy down the track (if I do end up kitbashing the Michael from "Footfall"), but the crawler is ... just right! O0

The Rattler Mk III - "sports version", as it was ironically nicknamed - was rushed into the defence of Cairo by Light of Mankind units in the desperate last days of the Jihad. Comparatively lightly armed, and about two-thirds of the weight of the better-feared Mk II, the two completed units took a dreadful toll of attackers, until finally obliterated by massed ortillery.

We have here a rare photo of an unequipped Rattler Mk III being moved to armoury for final fitout:

And remains of an unassembled Mk III, abandoned outside the underground manufactury.

So basically, a bit of fun! Will think how I'm going to paint it - either LoM colours, or dark grey with some black wash, grey drybrushing, & metallic wear.

The plastic is well-made, well-detailed, and nice and hard. It comes with the tracks, and the shuttle (which I haven't assembled) pre-painted. They're available on Amazon & no doubt other places at good prices. For the WoB fanatic, or for anyone with a taste for outre vehicles, not to be missed!

Cheers,

W.

What is this, some magical "kill you" machine!?

Ha ha, that's pretty damn awesome. Great find!

All I'm seeing is grey boxes with small bars on them.

I see it now, looks good.  Needs a bumper sticker on it saying "if the enemy can read this you have made a serious tactical error."   O0

Love it! It's so... So... Ugly!

Meanwhile, I've just cooked up a scenario based on your pics.
WoB are moving an unarmed Rattler prototype to the armoury for final arming and shakedown.
Your group of ComStar and mercenary partisans have this one chance to take it out before it goes it final production. Can you fight your way past the heavy convoy protection unit and destroy the Rattler ahead of the Coalition's landing?

Nav Alpha, perfect! Just work out the ramming damage - even at 1MP, it's going to be significant ;)

Or ... pull the "this fully operational battlestation!" on them -

I've been looking for a good bass chassis to build a Rattler out of, I'll have to try that!

I was wondering when this would attract your attention. How many fluid guns can it carry? :D

Was look at this from the mini side of things and will have to look for a 1/144 or 1/72 crawler for the fit from the art work. I think 1/72 for the over all size. If I recall correctly the tracks are taller then an assault mech

I just blu-tak-ed some stuff on, but looks to me like:

Front: turretted twin Gauss rifles, with co-axial twin ERML
Front-sides: turretted LB-10X & SSRM 6
Sides: turreted Heavy Gauss (no recoil issues), and twin LRM-20s each
Body: twin Long Toms

Technically I should also tack a range of MG arrays, flamers, and fluid guns around it. Including fluid guns just in front of each tread unit, for self-inflicted downhill ski-runs ;)
