Built as one part a utilitarian testing platform and one part interstellar boast of engineering prowess, the Dynamico Limited "Mobile Ordinance Research & Development Operations Rig" was intended to test every single advanced Clan Spec ER Large Laser that left the factory with at least one hour of live-firing before shipping to customers throughout. Initially, the project was a conventional bunker, but after only two weeks of testing, it was evident that more could be done to make the new line more visible to the public eye.
The M.O.R.D.O.R. was constructed first and foremost as a testing platform, with massive sensor banks and remote telemetry computers to quickly and accurately calibrate each laser with each firing, Each of the rig's twin mounting arrays can hold a hundred lasers simultaneously, constantly changing them out to keep a steady flow of thoroughly tested and calibrated lasers. Of course, the byproduct of all this testing is the carving of mountain-sized monuments to great leaders of the Suns in the landscape of Delavan in a nearly constant display of utterly blinding firepower.
With its media debut, the unintentional choice of acronym, the menacing appearance of the rig and the awe-inspiring display of force, the rig was rather quickly given a different nickname. Though many armchair generals have put forth the idea of mass-producing the "Tower of Sauron" for city defence purposes on other planets, the enormous costs to do so and the lack of planet-to-planet mobility leave this as a singular military oddity that has never seen combat (and probably never will).
