Tell me about the...Thunder Hawk
« on: 15 December 2011, 19:09:15 »
I haven't used this mech, it seems to get great reviews.

The variants of it are interesting. I'm really wondering if the -7S or -7Y is regarded as better than the original -7X.

I'm not sure what to think of the -7KMA.

The Thunder Hawk makes others swallow big slugs. One of my favorite IS 'Mechs.

Anyone can redesign the Hellbringer's base chassis.  Real men work only with the pod loadout- Natasha K (forum poster)

The Thunderhawk is a good firesupport 'Mech, specially in campaigns with rpg characters edge.

Its has great deep ammo bins that helps its survive long campaigns where ammunition refills matters.  With its maximum armor it allows its to survive for while in the field.  I used the 7X during my groups 3058 to 3067 merc campaign, which includes Huntress.

Only problem with the 'Mech its lack of CASE for its Gauss Rifles.  Its XLE makes its vulnerable as well, but depending on what rules your using to repair, as long its not cored its fine.   Some point my rifles were damaged, were replaced by the GM (temporary) with AC/10s.  Speed and close in defense is slight problem, where its 7X's 3 medium lasers are handy, but not worth heat since it uses only 10 single heatsinks.  Its not fast enough to escape unless i has good escort.  Y is similar to X, but its secondary weapons never impressed me or was worth using the variant use.

I've also used the KMA in scenario, its handy as powerful artillery placement if your using 4 maps or more.  Again, speed and secondary weapons can be problem if its going solo or doing fast action.

I'm not a fan of the 7S, it more survivable than the other variants, but its not a campaign 'mech to me.  If using it, it requires
(me anyways) to be careful in its usage to make make all your shots count. This is due in part, since you don't have allot (10 rounds per gun) to work with per encounter.

I like the -7Y for the extra accuracy to tag fast movers, although you can always tune up a custom Thunder Hawk like the variant I made with a LFE and ERPPC to go with the traditional Gauss Rifle mounts to make things even worse.  If you want to look at it is is posted here along with my IIC because the Thunder Hawk really needed a pair of ammo-free headcappers to go along with its triple Gauss Rifles.
