I honestly couldn't sit through three episodes of it. Just felt like more shallow moe garbage where you're expected to watch BECAUSE it has lotz of girlz, rather than because of good plotline, interesting worldbuilding, or fascinating characters. It would have been tolerable (with a vaguely interesting world idea), if it had included a more balanced cast - not just all girls. Yes, they 'explain' it, but it's a shallow excuse to put big-eyed anime girls in naval uniforms and sail big ships around.
Some anime I don't mind there being an overload of girls - in a setting where it makes perfect sense. I don't even hate moe in its place - enjoyed the hell out of Himouto! Umaru-chan and Koukaku no Pandora recently. But lately it seems like the decision making process goes,
"What genre can we put a lot of girls into - because our audience doesn't like looking at ucky men - that hasn't been done yet?"
"Well, mecha, but how do we make it all girls?"
"...Only girls can operate the mecha?"
Hence, Infinite Stratos.
"Golly, IS was a decent hit, what else could we do with an all girl cast?"
"Well, WWII ships are big, but we didn't get the license for Kancolle..."
"Okay... what if WWII ships were still around, but because, uh... airplanes don't exist, they're still useful... but, uh... not really useful, so they're kind of second-line ships crewed by girls?"
"...GENIUS!!!"
I just... ???
:-\ I don't see what you guys see in it.
