Assigning Manei Domini Augments?
« on: 05 August 2017, 02:31:09 »
I've been looking through my copies of JHS:3072 and JS:TBD and I've been wondering about how to go about assigning implants to a random Shadow Division force.  Jihad Secrets recommends that if you don't have JHS:3072 you roll a dice and if you get an 8 you consult the generic Manei Domini table.  I want to go into more detail than this and I have JHS:3072 but it gives no tables or instructions on how to randomly assign implants to a Manei Domini force.  Does such a table/guide to randomly assigning implants exist?

If not I'm thinking of making my own.  Fortunately JHS:3072 does provide a pretty detailed guide to what implants should be present for a Manei Domini of a particular rank and class.  So far I've been trying to work out how many of each class your typical LVL II formation has.  Deltas, Sigmas, and Omicrons are typically LVL III and Divisions commanders so that rules those ranks out as being common.  That leaves the Alpha, Beta, Omega, and Tau ranks meaning mostly level 2 and 3 implants.

Working from the table in JHS:3072 I'm thinking of something like this for Manei Domini pilots:
2-7: Paint Shunt + Communications Implant
8-9: Pain Shunt + Communications Implant + VDNI
10-12: Pain Shunt + Multi-Model Eye & Ear + VDNI + Boosted Communications Implant

What do you think?  Sound about right for your typical Shadow Division force?

Early Jihad a lot of AC 10 and AC 20 units used Armor Piercing ammo to kill the pilot while damaging the mecg . Non Buffered VDNI give you a pilot hit every potential critical to the mech , while buffered VDNI only gives out a pilot hit when the mech takes an actual hit and even then on a 8+ roll . Occasionally some melee weapons that also provide a possible crit would also count . Heat weapons also becomes more attractive. VDNI is great if you give the enemy time to use it . 3072 is about the transition between Standard and Buffered VDNI so I would say the newcomers would have buffered and all the veterans and officers that had the old ones so long you already have brain damage would be a resource ( something used until expended:) would not.

I dunno, if you have veterans and officers, I'd wager they already have the pain shunts and Buffered.

VDNI CYBERWARE buffered or otherwise was used almost exclusively by  green and regular pilots. Pain shunts was used by veterans and officers . Only near the end of the Jihad ERA after they divided the veteran and officer in to be expended and preserved did senior officers and veterans get  VDNI as the system will kill the user over time . Those they wanted to preserve they withdrew to hidden worlds . Anyone with VDNI was a disposable resource.

Wheee about do you get that idea from? Wolf and Blake has a host of elite MD almost all with VDNI. Belial, who is essentially the second highest ranking MD and was fluffed by Ben Rome as the guy to carry on the Word legacy post Jihad had buffered VDNI.

You have to remember that to the Master's Hands argumentation is a holy sacrament - a link that lets you essentially become one with a Mech is a massive honour. No one is looking 10 years down the track when that WiFi hook up will kil the meat.

Almost the entire MD was meant to die in combat toward the end of the Jihad and became disposable . Only the troops slated for the hidden worlds were either not disposable and had the deadly cyberware removed so they would live long enough to train the next generation or knew too much about the hidden worlds whereabouts so had to be retreated to them for defence while they lasted. The writing on the wall about losing the Jihad was clear by the leadership of the WoB they left after hovering as much talent from Inner Sphere as possible before leaving . From what I gathered from some of the Dark Age internal conflict destroys at least one of these hidden worlds but the strategy is mostly successful .
