Chicagoland Battletech: October Halloween Challenge
« on: 13 August 2017, 15:05:10 »
October's Battletech game will be on October 21, 2017 at Games Plus in Mt. Prospect.

I will be there at 10am to get set-up and will start as soon as possible. However, we will break for lunch. Also, players will be able to jump in late.

By request, we are going to be doing another take at the rift map, this time with new opponents. If you remember from a few years ago when we did this the first time it is all players vs. the board (and essentially me). Your team will start on a hex tile and then as you explore new tiles will appear with new opponents and challenges. The goal is for your team to accomplish all the tiles and find the "exit" before time runs up (i.e. we decide to call it for the day).

Halloween themed mechs are encouraged but you only get the one mech design so you might want to bring copies of your record sheet so you can "respawn" when you die. Though the goal is not to die often as your team will be punished for respawns.

 }:)

Are there any rules governing what kind of mech we can bring?  Does it need to be a stock design, or should we use the construction rules?

Thanks again for organizing btw. I missed the Halloween game last year and I'm really looking forward to this one :-) .

Ok team.  I plan on doing a Demon Hunter mech with Cluster Shot and Multi-Shot as my primary skills.  I'm going to need some TAG around (plan on having an Arrow IV as one of my primary weapons if I can fit it in the BV ;))

I believer Mary had mentioned at my game that you could build your own mech.  I'm working under that assumption until corrected.

OK, design your own is totally cool with me!  Anyone have an estimate of what the BV limit will be?  I'd like to get started :-) .

I believe the lady of Orange said 2500 including piloting and gunnery.

Per the idea of the group, i have built one hell of a crusader/ tank. Amy will most likely be a DPS/ Demon Hunter.

I might have to possibly change my mech plan,  I have to relook at how a particular LRM ammo type works again if it would be legal and possibly do a "Witch Doctor" using Swarm LRMs.

I can pack at least light TAG on my mech.

Thanks for clarifying the BV limit BTW :-) .

Just an update:

I've been working already on getting everything set-up for this game so I have high expectations.  }:)

You can bring any mech whose BV is under 2500 including piloting and gunnery. You may design your own mech for this and you can use whatever tech you want as long as there are actual game play rules for it in a BT book produced in the United States (i.e. you can use the experimental tech and ammo from tac ops etc.). You will be playing against some very challenging, (and very not challenging) interesting mech designs. I also always encourage mechs painted in Halloween themes.

You will only play one mech at a time. However, you are encouraged to bring multiple designs to the game in case someone doesn't come with a sheet and/or you want to tweek what you are running in the game depending on what other people bring. Remember you are a team against a very difficult board and you are very strongly punished for respawns. Therefore, the goal is to defeat the entire board without dying in the time allotted. Your team composition will likely play an important role.

We will also be using our usual Chicagoland rules (i.e. stackpole, +1 for every 20, etc.)

I am tweeking the rules a little from last time I ran this game (in 2015) but it will be much the same idea (you discover tiles and each tile has an opponent you must defeat).

That is all for now. I am getting very excited for this game and I hope you are as well.  }:)

Does that include the Tactical Handbook?

Can someone bring a Fafnir Model for me? My planned mech is going to use a big gun in each arm.

I would love to make it and bring my Neon orange Atlas of doom like I did a couple of years ago, but alas, I will not be able to make it this year. Take pictures and let the rest of us know how it goes. Thanks and have fun all!

I now have to work this weekend, so I'm out.

Just for fun: The reason I was asking about the tactical handbook was to see if I could use dead-fire SRMs.
I'd probably need a pin to paint "Hi Alex!" next to the launchers.   ;)

I have many designs for both damage taking and dealing ready to go for Sareth and myself. I hope as a team we can defeat the evil orange rift house of doom.

Darn it this is tough at 2500 bv, i have a great mech but a poor pilot. Good pilots  are expensive. Also how stringent of a line is 2500 pts. Is 2509 or 2543 acceptable? I am playing with some ideas.

I agree. I did a lot with using mixed tech and intro level I.S. weapons to save B.V. A standard medium laser is only 33 BV per, while a Clan E.R. is 108.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a Berserker miniature (from 3055)?  I'm also officially reniging on my promise of light TAG....

Yeah, I think I'll be bringing one at 2500 and one at 1811 (for a 3/4 pilot). And then decide when I get there.
