Black Sky Industries
« on: 15 November 2017, 20:02:11 »
So in case anyone wondered where I have been the last few months, I was actually busy turning Black Sky Industries from a fictional company, into a real one. I now own the name and have started a patreon (link in signature) for creating stuff for various table top games. Including this one. Some of the I get licenses for and can produce what I want and sell it, others, like battletech, I can make things, but absolutely cannot sell it under any circumstances, so anything I make for battletech will of course be free and open to the public to do whatever they want with.

One of the things I have been up to is learning how to use adobe pro to create finished PDFs, and I plan on putting a lot of the stuff I have posted on here into my own PDFs, for everyone to see and use offline if they want. I don't have any for BattleTech yet, but they are in the works.

I also got a cool new logo, more reminiscent of me working on projects for both science fiction and fantasy games. Anyway, enough about me, I have a warship for you all.

Way back when I did a conversion of The Last Starfighter's Gunstar to BattleTech, I built it as a DropShip and made a choice to use a combination of Caspar II and DTAC computers both aboard the ship to control the whole thing with a single person. It occurs to me that this could be used in-universe by one group that are willing to cross ALL of the lines.

Kaliki is an Indian deity, Tenth Avatar of Vishnu, and nemisis of Kali. Kaliki is the final being that is supposed to come and finish off a cycle, for the new cycle to begin. The name means "Destroyer of Filth."

Word of Blake protomech experiments had not gotten to their full conclusion when the allied forces took Terra and the remains of the Word of Blake fled to avoid complete annihilation. That protomech project was at least as horrific as any other human experiments the Word of Blake conducted. Removing the limbs from the protomech's pilots and permanently linking them into the machine. Before they disappeared, when the prognostications were of lose, this horrific project spawned another, even darker one.

Project Kaliki was both a proof of concept, and a mechanism for vengence. A warship cybernetically slaved to the senses of single person, permanently grafted into the ship. Using the CASPAR II technology they had developed, rather than mapping human minds, they connected it directly to one. The Warship would become the subject's body, much like a protomech would feel like the pilot's body. Supported by a CASPAR II framework, this single person could operate a combat ready warship by themselves.

By the time a working prototype was ready for deployment from yet another hidden Word of Blake location, Terra had long since been abandoned, and the fledgling republic was at war with it's neighbors. It did not matter, the amount of destruction the prototype would be able to inflict on the successor lord and clan filth would be unimaginable.

On March 14, 3091 the Word of Blake teams that had spent decades in development of the abomination celebrated as the ship slipped it's moorings and headed for the outskirts of the system. They celebrated the deaths of untold millions who had refused the Light of the Blessed Blake. Now their masterpiece, Kaliki, Destroyer of Filth, would be the vessel of their vengence. Seven days later it silently jumped from the system... and was never heard from again.

Kaliki is designed to be a weapon of terror, rather than a true warship. It runs from anything that out guns it, but with so few warships left in the Inner Sphere, it often has free reign. It's primary targets are civilian. Huge arrays of capital and subcapital lasers make short work of most fighter and DropShip forces... and their JumpShips too. screen launchers and laser anti-missile systems layer defenses atop the heavy armor on the ship. A few heavy subcapital cannons in the for and aft add a bit more punch. Twenty-five drone fighters are carried in ARTS bays that automate the launch and recovery of the autonomous drones. Those drone are however standardly set to aggressive and will ram enemies as if they were missiles themselves. Ten Barracuda missiles augment the laser arrays in engaging in accurate long range firepower, even against small targets. It also carries an extensive supply of space mines, for seeding in regularly traveled space lanes.

It carries a single protomech and a single interface battlearmor in case the ship is defeated and unsalvagable, but the person controlling it lives. Word of Blake salavge teams can transer the person to the armor and into the protomech so they can continue serving the Will of Blake.

Ones any ship's in its vicinity have been destroyed, Kaliki was intended to move on to target civilian population centers, mercilessly burning them off the face of their planets. With it's disappearance, no one really knows how successful the ship would have been.

Good luck with the business venture!

As for the ship, yeah, that's WoBish as hell.

Someone game me some advice that made sense to me, that in moving into professional game development of any kind I shouldn't be creating unlicensed content for games, because it could entangle me in legal trouble I really don't need. So with that decision, my above statement about making PDFs of my stuff and putting them out there for free is one I have to retract, I am not going to.

If any of you want any advice on BattleTech designs though feel free to ask me.

I wish you all the best
"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast, And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill, And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"
