What is your battletech Quirk
« on: 10 December 2017, 09:22:10 »
Just wondering if anyone admits to having a "quirk" when playing battletech.
My first one would be the use of 80 ton mechs.  Zeus, Gargoyle, Thug, Salamander, etc.  You can defend a planet with 80 Timberwolves or 75 "80 ton mechs" I will choose the "80 ton mechs" and in 90% of the battles lose.

My other quirk would be playing in the 3050 - 3085 time frame.

A deep fondness for the Shadow Hawk that is only rivaled by similar feelings for the Jenner.  Love both of them and use them sometimes when I probably shouldn't.  ;D

Cestus: love the mech hate the art and mini (in staring at the mini saying how in the hell do I use such a piece which such excellent stats but looks like ****)

And tons of Grasshoppers .... almost have a lance of them and their currently in a mixed lance of a Guillotine and them. Considering Gallowglases to support them with another mixed company of similar speed Cestus, Bandersnatch, and a Falconer or two. But seriously Grasshoppers!

1. A deep, abiding hatred of the Clans that runs the gamut from loathing all the way to utter contempt.  >:(

2. A deep, abiding love for the Charger and all it's variants. My love for this rather limited-use 'Mech stems partially from the fact that I like the way it looks and partially because I used to own a 1969 Charger. O0

I love glass sledgehammers.  Light mechs that devote around half their tonnage to weapons systems that hurt! But have little armour or speed.

My favorite lance is typically composed of

Cicada
Quickdraw
JagerMech
Banshee

AKA, the units that I used a lot in 4th Edition play. Memories...

Whenever selecting a lance-sized force I always pair 2 designs together that complement each other. I never mix 4 unique designs in the same lance.

Maybe I should play as Kurita because I really have a thing for PPCs.

Oh that Bushwhacker looks nice but hey can I replace the AC for a PPC?  Oh can I do the same with that wolverine? HOw about that Urbanmech I think it needs a PPC to.  Oh yea and about that Clint...

Yea I also hate ammo that may have something to do with it.

This insane ability to once in a while pull off completely batshit insane gambles that really should not work and come away with my unit able to go for a few more rounds at least.

The 70 or 75 ton 4/6 heavy.  Armor, firepower, and less speed.

The faster I move, the more lucky my opponent is.  Speed has never saved me in a game.  Give me armor.

I thought you qualified as your own quirk. Maybe that's why you don't have a complete quirk?

That aside, I kinda feel like I'm my own quirk.

But, I suppose if you were to ask my friends, I'm best known for pulling off wins out of nowhere, especially when it's a force I'm putting through the star side of the campaign. There've been times playing opfor for other player's teams where I'd give them a really difficult win, and sometimes I'm not even trying.

Other friends know me for landing the obligatory crippling head shot or TAC near the end of a game. Sometimes early.

If you've read any of my fic down in the appropriate subforum, the battles were from some of those games. Yeah. Those really happened. On the tabletop.

I think I've got the "lower form" of Jade Hellbringer's "Hellbie Dice" quirk:  Whatever the to-hit number is that I need, I'll generally roll exactly one less.

On rare occasions, that quirk will flake out for some unknown reason, and I'll suddenly start rolling exactly one MORE than needed for the rest of that particular battle.  Next game, I'm back to the "usual".

Same here, I'm a fellow 'quaddie'.  In fact, for some weird reason, I tend toward any 'non-humanoid' mech - Cicada, Hornet, Flea, Urbie, etc.

Not me, but another member of my group is no longer allowed to kick any prone targets with a Vindicator.

Don't know how, but the target Stackpoles every time.

Hmmm,   My "quirk"   .....   looking at any & all new fiction/fluff, or for that matter many games,  and see how I can relate those to the 2 long term campaigns I played in back in the 80's (MW1-IS) & 90's (MW2-Clan)

Don't know how, but the target Stackpoles every time.

A guy I used to game with had the same problem with DFA attacks- if it didn't Stackpole as a result of the damage, it was only because it did because of the weapon attacks before the DFA could land. Either way, he kept landing in atomic fireballs, which if you're doing a DFA attack is not an optimal landing situation.
