The unprecedented technological and economic boom of the mid 31st century allowed for many Mech designs that would have been impractical just a generation earlier. While most new designs of the era focused on increased capability for existing designs, Alsadian Industries introduced the Chevalier to fill a role virtually unseen since the Star League - a dedicated heavy scout.
The Chevalier combines unparalleled mobility for its weight class with cutting edge defensive systems and electronics, to offer a Mech that can seek out the enemy, coordinate the firepower of a large force, and disengage safely from any enemies that it finds itself unable to handle. The result was one of the most expensive Mechs ever to see mass production, due to the gargantuan 375XXL engine that costs as much as an entire Mech lance of the 3020s. However, the capability of the Chevalier to act in ways that no other scout Mech could earned it a warm reception among Inner Sphere militaries. Lyran senior officers, in particular, frequently seek to use Chevaliers as the eyes of an assault battalion, and often prefer to pilot them personally to maximize their understanding of the battlefield.
Alsadian engineers had to make numerous tradeoffs with the unit's heat and internal volume when creating the Chevalier. This resulted in a unit whose offensive battery is physically the most compact of any large Mech since the original Charger 1A1, and whose heat sinks, despite their advanced capabilities, are nowhere near sufficient to allow simultaneous use of all of the Chevalier's systems. In general, pilots on scout duty or who are attempting to disengage from combat simply refrain from firing weapons altogether to ensure the Mech remains operational and the defensive systems can operate unfettered. Conversely, in active combat the jump jets remain mostly unused, and the stealth system is frequently turned off at close range. In a pinch, however, the lack of heat-sensitive ammunition and ability to jump at speeds unaffected by heat allow the Chevalier to operate at extremely high temperatures.
