Best mechs for a berserk charge?
« on: 09 November 2017, 12:21:25 »
So after re reading the background for the blood guard keshik of the blood spirits. It states the unit is made up of heavy and assault mechs and that their preferred tactic is just to rush their foes in a " berserk charge" to me this would call for short range power houses like the kodiak but what mechs would you put in?

Also would you think they would do physical attacks?

No.

Clan assaults that can banzai charge are limited to things like the Executioner and Gargoyle, of which the Spirits presumably have few.

Same goes for the heavy cavalry omnis typical of most Clan toumans.

For Spirit flavor, I might look to the more mobile and closer-ranged configurations of the Spirits' homegrown omnis.  That means...

In open terrain...

Crimson Langur E:  168 armor, 7/11, 3xPulse Med, 2xSSRM-4, 6xER Small
Stooping Hawk E:  173 armor, 5/8, LB 10-X, 3xATM-3, 2xER Med

In built-up terrain...

Crimson Langur B:  168 armor, 7/11/7, ATM-9, 3xER Med
Stooping Hawk F:  173 armor, 5/8/8, 2xPulse Med, SSRM-4, 2xHvy Med, 2xHvy Sm

I might anchor two pairs of these with a Blood Kite for support.  Not every unit has to go banzai.  Stars would look like this:

Open terrain...

Blood Kite
Stooping Hawk E
Stooping Hawk E
Crimson Langur E
Crimson Langur E

Built-up terrain...

Blood Kite
Stooping Hawk F
Stooping Hawk F
Crimson Langur B
Crimson Langur B

For variety, substitute a Nova Prime, E, or S for a Stooping Hawk.  Or a Viper A or E for a Crimson Langur.  Or a Kingfisher for a Blood Kite.  Or an Executioner if you want the entire star to charge.

To show the desperation of the Blood Spirits, substitute an ancient Coyotl A for one of the Crimson Langurs.

Hope this helps.

"Ah, yes.  The belle dame sans merci.  The sweet young thing who will blast your nuts off.  The kitten with a whip.  That mystique?"
"Slavish adherence to formal ritual is a sign that one has nothing better to think about."
"Variety is the spice of battle."
"I've fought in... what... a hundred battles, a thousand battles?  It could be a million as far as I know.  I've fought for anybody who offered a decent contract and a couple who didn't.  And the universe is not much different after all that.  I could go on fighting for another hundred years and it would still look the same."
"I'm in mourning for my life."
"Those who break faith with the Unity shall go down into darkness."

Maybe the Scylla, Gladiator, Executioner, Some Warhammer IICs, Some Phoenix Hawk IICs, Some Maruader IICs, Blood Asp, Thunder Bolt IIC, Lots of Clan Mechs can fit the role.

I like staffing my spirit units with old school star league units like the victor, or early clan designs like the annihaltor as well

That was my first thought but no one said that you have to charge fast.

After some thought I would say a consistent speed across the Star would be moat important. Charges are easily broken when they lose coherence. Consistent ground speed will limit that.

Perhaps I read the berserk charge too literally? I took that to mean a wall of bruiser mechs running pell mell for their enemies like the jags did when they came to reclaim huntress?

The Thunderbolt IIC is made in the Inner Sphere.

The phrase "Berserk Charge" can mean quite a few things.  In most clan cases it tends to mean a pressing non-stop offensive, the 'mechs involved can be just about any type of 'mech but their pilots will likely be firing constantly, with little regard to heat build-up, and relatively quick expenditure of ammunition.

As for the options given in your poll, I went with brawlers, simply due to juggernaughts tending to be a bit too slow for my tastes - but reasonably anything could work with proper use.

The best mech ever for a berserk charge is a Banzai.
