Small BA hover transport from Wolf Pack
« on: 05 January 2018, 08:46:06 »
There was a scene in Wolf Pack where Elson Novacat sees a point of Wolf's Elementals riding what he describes as little more than an engine, hover fan, and a framework with places for troopers to grab on.
Kinda like a hover dune buggy for Battle Armor.

Did anything like this make it into cannon?
Just a cheap(BV), blindingly fast taxi for a point or squad of BA?
I'm rarely right... Except when I am.  ---  Idle question.  What is the BV2 of dread?
Apollo's Law- if it needs Clan tech to make it useable, It doesn't deserve those resources in the first place.
Sure it isn't the most practical 'mech ever designed, but it's a hundred ton axe-murderer. If loving that is wrong I don't wanna be right.

Not that i know of but there is a very notable lack of ATVs and similar things in BattleTech in general.

The MechWarrior Darkage sets have all kinds of interesting motorized infantry that has never really been touched upon.

I thought things like ATVs & small personnel carriers were "implied" by the motorized infantry type?

Under Fan designs on the non-combat vehicle  child boards page 2 under ' 'has anyone tried'' You will find cheap ultralight support unicycles that permit faster than protomech speed transports . Was done so long ago it may have inspired the writer . In the above case it moves 1 Up to Assault Battle Armor trooper

I quote you for this:

By making it a Clan Omni, most likely removal of Flamer, adding 1 ton Cargo and ERing the laser, it could be attend. Even dropping both for Cargo, just by Omnifying it,would allow a Point to be traveled.

This is correct. Light vehicles like that are folded into motorized and mechanized infantry. We get TW stats for some in AToW Companion, but things get real bulky if you want to field useful numbers of them. Usually easier to just use motor/mechinf.

Sounds like an Omni version of the Savannah Master is the best way to go about building this, even if you do occasionally find yourself in the weird situation the BA squad weighing more the the transport.

So what is the cheapest (BV 2), fast BA transport in cannon?

Barring there being any unit not included in the MUL yet in terms of BV, there's the Ripper VTOL (Infantry) which goes 12/18 holds 4 tons of infantry, and is only 108 BV.

Are you thinking of the Bandit? It's 50 tons, but it's a Dragoons design.

No, what's described is much more of a framework. Probably 5-10 ton range maximum, if that.

I went with a three ton vehicle, personally. Purely to increase the idiocy.

Though it might be worth noting that when Wolf Pack was written, a full point of elementals still only took one ton to carry (the more reasonable trooper tonnage wasn't implemented until master rules). The original concept might have been nothing more than a savannah master with no medium laser.

The "Zoomer" as they were known has not made it into a TRO or RS yet, but it is still mentioned on Sarna under Blackwell industries.

Best guess is the "Skimmer" link above or the Savannah Master that was mentioned but with an Omni-fication to it to allow the Elementals to grab onto the outside like they did in the fiction.

IIRC it had no guns & was just an engine w/ minimal armor.

I don't know if an actual KPH speed was listed but I'm guessing it was a 5 ton Omni-hover w/ some ICE/SFE/XL engine of the 25-60 rating range & just enough armor to soak a ML hit.

The "Zoomer" also gets a quick mention Wolf and Blake - apparently the Word capture a couple after taking Outreach.
