(Answered) ASF V(S)TOL Landing Question
« on: 15 January 2018, 13:02:37 »
VTOL Landings seem to be overly dangerous during VTOL landings as mentioned in this thread

http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=59967.msg1379665#msg1379665

The only relevant rules section we could find is in here...

Quote from: Strategic Operations

Strategic Ops Page 73

Spheroid and aerodyne units can land vertically with the
following conditions and modifers (effectively the unit hovers
over the water and then cuts its drive when two elevations up,
dropping the remaining distance to avoid plasma backwash)

On the prior page it mentions that if you fail a landing, you take up to 6+2d6 Capital Scale damage  on a failure, modified by the MoF or MoS. Are there a better source of rules for Aerospace Fighters attempting vertical operations, or is this a case of unclear rules?

Thanks!

Ana

Missiles, how do they work? (Seriously, guided bottle rockets?)

ASFs don't use those rules: they are for DropShips and Small Craft.  Yes, they're that dangerous. For ASFs, you want the VSTOL rules in Total Warfare (p. 87).
